I love how in the hidden compartment there's just "$2500 cash." The USD was supposed to be hyperinflated in the Fallout world. A stack of pre-war money is a $10,000 stack of bills which someone estimated inflation to be 2800% compared to today due to the price of the Capitol Post in Fallout 3 being $56 compared to what you'd probably expect to pay today for a newspaper, which is around $2. Meaning they were smuggling the equivalent of approximately $80 USD. Totally worth putting in all the effort of smuggling.

When you lose stabilization in one wing and are unable to pull the flaps for both it send the plain into a spin, but while pull on flap could help a bit, you won't Ever have a clean landing.

well, modern jet fighters are just like bricks when the engines cut out mid air. The reason for this is weighing the options, like better glide or agility when maneuvering mid air. Although I understand your standpoint, a passenger liner like this probably have similar capabilities to the Concord or Tupolev-144. The shape of those hulls are also "bricks" when the engines cut out.

Losing all engines on one side (and that thing seems to have 10 engines total in 2 clusters) is killer for most aircraft, especially powerful ones. You'd have to cut power to the surviving engines but at that point you might not have enough lift to keep the nose up and if you took too long to do that, the imbalance would cause either a flatspin or a spiral downward. Plus pilot error due to panic is likely. Typically the planes that can function with half the engines are 2 engined planes with the nacelles very close to the fuselage and even then landing is a bastard. As for the others it's hard to say without knowing just how much their relied on electronics that the EMP would known down, but I'm guessing quite a lot.

Kind of an interesting fact about aircraft and EMP is that the russian Mikoyan Gurevich MIG-25 Foxbat had most of its internal electronics encased in Vacuum tubes so in the event of a thermonuclear detonation the plane would be unaffected by the resulting EMP.

Actually the EMP Shockwave from the nuclear blast didn't just knock out the navigation systems on the airplanes, it took out all of the electronics and shorted them out. That's what a electromagnetic pulse Shockwave does.

Not true, transistor based tech yes, vacuum tubes are a different story, the USSR used planes with vacuum tubes in them instead of transistors long after the U.S. started using transistors specifically for that reason. The Fallout universe is based around vacuum tube technology, transistors never took off.

But I try to console myself with that thought for all crashes. A pilot is almost like they were born to fly. For most of us the sky is the limit, but for them the sky is their home.

Actually the funny thing is that many of the first ever aircraft to carry passengers were designed to float and land on water initially I think. I think it’s in the history of pan am. I think it’s this partially marine history that is shown in modern pilot uniforms. Evolved from sailor uniforms.

Actually, while vacuum tubes are *resistant* to EMP, they are not *immune* to it. Besides, even vacuum tube-based logic schemes have quite a lot of non-vacuum tube components, which can be fried by EMP (transformers, for instance).

Aviation is all about weight and space, transistors weigh less and use less space than tubes, so if the jetliner was designed after the transistor, there wouldve been transistors and not tubes in the electronics.

I think Oxhorn is using the wrong terminology. It wasn't an EMP blast that would've took down the flights. It would have been the resulting shock wave from the detonation, the one we see coming towards us from Cambridge at the very beginning of the game.

Most of today's aircraft have solid-state electronics that make jets almost impossible to knock out with an emp otherwise if you wanted to take out a world power all you need do is load an EMP weapon on a fake satellite and set it off over the country you want to go bye-bye then hang out for a year and 95% of the population will be dead from various causes. I think the difference between tail name and flight name indicates a Codeshare agreement between Skylanes and HorizonAir. Operator uses their name in flight number, on ticket etc while the plane actually belongs to the original owner. Like how KLM flies you on Air France, United Airlines shares Turkish Airlines planes for European interlinear transfers.

This has got me thinking; what happened to all the cross-country flights when the nukes hit? Many of them would be far from any military sites or population centers, so what happened to them after the bombs? Did they try to land in the smoldering ruins that had replaced all the airports?

Pintroll300 they were probably forced to crash land and the state of the world would mean anyone who survived probably died with the exceptions of flights going to areas that weren't targeted during the Great War of 2077, which would have landed safely. Depending on where any given flight between Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, the US and Canada was located during the bombardment, some of them may have been able to divert to safer locations. But this would be rare. Small planes flying over less populated areas with smaller airports would probably have been able to land safely. Unfortunately for those in larger passenger planes, larger airports with enough runway to land these planes are typically located in larger cities with higher population densities that would be targeted by enemy nukes. Any airport landing or taking off in these areas or anywhere within a few miles spherical radius of the blasts would be brought down immediately. The survivability would depend on a variety of factors. At tens of millions of degrees, anyone within a a couple to several thousand feet will be vaporized along with the aircraft surrounding them. those further away but still within a few miles radius would be knocked down by shockwave. In the outer edge of the radius of the danger zone it is possible that affected aircraft can regain control if the pilots are skilled enough. But these pilots would have to contend with the radiation messing with the instruments. Those over the ocean won't be as badly affected, BUT they would be left with no communications with air traffic control, which will and the instruments will be affected by gamma rays if they are going to affected areas. flights over the oceans could be unaware of what's going on though so may fail to divert to safer locations.

That is weird though, because from the lay of the land and the fuselage/wings being in such close proximity, it looks more like it fell straight down (the wings would have been ripped up more, or have the tips point forward or backward, depending on which part hit the ground first, if it was traveling forwards) and it being belly down makes no sense either, as flying wings without control authority would start spinning along the wing axis, due to the center of mass and center of lift being apart from eachother. To clarify everything: nope they can't... I used to be a pilot, you know? But not what you might think... sailing planes or whatever they are called in english... they can glide because they are fully aerodynamic and lightweight. Planes like THIS are way too heavy and just look at the design. In real life, planes like that cannot fly without computer because they are not aerodynamic or at least partially... just look at the F/A 22 Raptor or the F-16 Fighting Falcon, two well known fighter jets. If they cannot fly properly without computer, how could such a big one glide? Go ask Google if you want ^_^

If you go to the Vim! Pop Factory, you can get some background lore on Erickson. Check out the Vim Mixing Terminal specifically in the factory section, along the East wall. He's the one who locked Grun up, and is apparently averse to hunting humans when there's other hunting in abundant supply. He also remarks that he finds the area soothing (I can't parse whether he means Far Harbor in general, or the Vim! factory in particular), and notes the opposite effect on the other super mutants. I know it's not unique for Super Mutants to wear bracers, but I thought it was interesting that Erickson wears just one metal bracer over the furry one on his left arm. Probably just a coincidence, but it reminded me of a PipBoy. Supposedly "pure, unmutated" humans like vault dwellers and the Enclave are the only ones that retain their intelligence when exposed to the FEV, and I thought the left-handed bracer might be a nod to that.

As well as probably sinking and eroding, the runways would have been much shorter as well. The planes taking off there appear to be shorter than normal planes we see today, and they were powered by uranium, possibly a much more powerful fuel than jet fuel. When combining shorter planes with more power, the time between when the plane first starts moving and when it leaves the ground would be only a matter of seconds, therefore runways did not require so much length.

So the first recording from the flight recorder was and nuclear airbust causing and EMP.. The second is when city of boston hasn't been hit with nuclear weapons yet. Which does explain the vaults quickly sheltering people because it's only minutes before the nuke actually devastate the city and surrounding areas. The pilots are flying at high altitude so they probably seen nukes hit the state of Maine or New Hampshire. Just a thought.

6:40 It is possible that the two recordings actually aren't conflicting. the co-pilot sees the bomb goes off while the pilot is out of the cockpit, and wants to land as soon as possible, so the pilot radios in, but the E.M.P. blast shuts off the engine, and the plane crashes. this would also explain why the voices are different in both recordings.

How would it even be possible for any of those planes in the Boston area to NOT have witnessed the nuke exploding? That mushroom cloud looked pretty big from sanctuary hills and once those engines would have lost power those planes would have been a huge paper weight, no way they could have glided very far and the first recording pretty much says that once the engine failure happened they dropped from the sky. Anyways I love your videos and look forward to more. I would be interested in your take of the great war, who started it, what it was like for the survivors, etc.

It could be bellow their nose when they are up high. Many aircraft do have a bit of a blindspot there which is why some planes like the concorde has the "droop snoot". Others is it can be behind them as well. Or cloud cover is blocking the area. As a person whose been flying a lot recently I sometimes miss an entire country from my window and at least on the plane I was on, I can see bellow me better than the pilot themselves.

@@R4V3-0N Hahaha that’s why the commercial jetliners in real life have to use a marshal from ground crew to faithfully guide them in to park on the aircraft stands. The pilots can’t see where the forward landing gear (ground steering) through the nose of the plane. I love doing it though. Having one of those big magnificent flight designed beasts at your command even for a brief time is fun.

There is a mod you can have the stingray as a companion and helps defend you on missions, if you are hidden or in stealth mode it goes in stealth mode and it can be your companion along with other ones. You don't get to fly it though. Perhaps like the mod personal vertibird, there may be one made you can fly eventually.

I have another theory as to the barge salvaging the plane parts in the ocean: What if that was the wreck of a PREVIOUS crash?! The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will often scavenge what parts they can from crashed aircraft to determine what caused the crash.

1665 sounds like they switched them. Makes more sense the explosion caused engine failure resulting in the mayday message. But from a gameplay perspective giving the player the mayday message first to give them an idea of what to expect. It could also be possible the emp magically fried the flight recorder but not the radio making it possible the last transmission sent from the device was not the 'final' transmission.

iirc the planes were auto-controlled and regulated by some sort of device (while still keeping a pilot), so when the bombs dropped and caused the Great Blackout, they were shut off without any prior warning. There's a good chance this affected whatever cooling unit they had for their nuclear-powered jets (assuming they had one) and their auto-pilot systems. But in regards to electronics in Fallout, yes they did use electronics. There are lots of electronically powered devices in Fallout, the biggest things I can think of are the robots, laser/plasma weapons, multiple computers, and the Pip-Boy itself.

I...um. Hmmm, yeah. EMP shouldn't effect vacuum tubes and analog controls. I'm not sure if a nuclear EMP would knock out other nuclear generators. Maybe fry the Bethesda-Uranium-to-Electric-magic generator but maybe the EMP knocked just enough stuff out and the pilots we're too reliant on advanced auto-pilot mechanisms and crashed in a panic.

im pretty sure vaccum tubes need electricity to operate , an no matter how they get the power they still use it so an emp would destroy somethings on the planes and the plane that had the red light well obv powered by electricity .. and fusion cells produce .. u guessed it electricity , not magic fusion dust lol simple fact is no matter how they created power/electricity anything that uses it would have been knocked out rendered useless until repaired , which is why emps are scary in our lives nowadays too especially since nukes are no longer needed to generate an emp

Classic cars are cheaper then you'd expect if they're not one of the big sought after models. I got my 55' Ford Fairlane for 5,300 bucks with only 38,000 original miles on her.

There were multiple nukes that hit the Boston area, probably all at slightly different times, it's possible that the flight saw and were taken down by an earlier one that hit further out and thus didn't kill Air Traffic Control, but a few minutes later a nuke takes out ATC as well.

I saw a few comments saying that the planes were only brought down by the nukes, that is possible, but not probable. If there is an EMP blast involved in a nuke, then the plane’s electronics would fail, not the engines. If the plane was pretty close to the blast, then the concussion could stall/disable the engines for a short time. But in the end, the plane would not crash, even in today’s planes, saying the ones in the game are futuristic.

The wrecks having textures of both airlines is likely a error by the mapper since the models use the same livery. Another possibility is due to the war effort/corruption/inflation they shared parts with each other to cut down on maintenance costs, even resorting to using components from older/crashed aircraft just to keep their planes flying.

Almost feel like the two last recordings got switched cause the one in the glowing sea talks about a bright light from the north which the bomb in the glowing sea wouldn't be from the north and skylanes 1981 say they lost engines and then aim for the road which I'm pretty sure there isn't a road around the crash site.

Shouldn't those planes have EMP shielding? Considering how Fallout is a world where a spoon could be nuclear powered and explode violently, I thought they would have some sort of protection in case something bad happened. Also I like how the Stingray Deluxe sort of resembles the X-49 Night Raven with a longer tail section.

I encountered the random quest giver (was Tess her name?) well after looting the secret compartment. I talked to her about the plane the compartment and that I long since looted it, she basically says “that sucks, have a nice day” and walks off, never turning hostile. I’m level 76 and this just happened to me over the last weekend so it seems that if she looses out she bumped but not violent. It was a little wierd

It could be that one logo is the plane manufacturer and the other three flight company that bought it. Like how Boeing makes the planes used by Delta, South West, Alaskan, Etc and while each of those planes have logos from both companies on them. I dunno it just makes sense that either Skyline or Horizon made the plane and the other bought them for their flight company.

This is a late response but there are few more stingrays crashed in the main vanilla map, one is out on a barge crash, and one is crashed and being used as a lean to camp with two skeletons and a crashed raft on a rock where the skeletons must have originated as they are wearing civilian clothes.

I found one more Stingray in the Furthest Southeast of the map, it looks like it's got a strange story behind it visually, it crashed into the Super Highway and collapsed the highway down two levels, there's a soldier's skeleton just next it, and there are no enemies in this area save for a little further North near the FMS ship I can't remember the name of, but here there's a machine gun turret still operational and will shoot on sight overlooking the collapsed Super Highway.. weird.

my guess is that the one with the thugboat was a plane that crashed in the harbour some days or weeks before the great war and the air crash investigators was working on getting the wreck lifted to find out what was the cause of the accident. if not i dont see why people would go out of their way to lift the wreck when there is a lot of good wrecks around the area thats a lot easier to scavange.
