Well considering the Silver Daggers were the Rapid-Response/Stealth unit of the BSAA that Chris led it could be possible that it's revealed in RE8 that he's still on the good side but he's working an undercover op but before then basically post RE7-pre RE8 was in the process of training his successor to the role of Silver Daggers leader remember during the final chapter of RE6 he was considering going into retirement and named Piers as his successor but as we all know that never happened and he ended up becoming the leader of the Silver Daggers unit with their first big mission being the events of Vendetta with the unit's only casualty being tech-expert Damian who sacrificed himself to save the unit's demolition expert and his best friend DC from a pack of Cerberus.

Even though I don't want Chris to be a villain, I could understand why he would turn. The dude has been through some stuff. His partner that he loved got brainwashed and spent a large chunk of his life believing she was deceased, he lost an entire squadron he was close with due to trusting the wrong person, and he's dealt with three major outbreaks. Chris just can't catch a break. Can't blame him for reaching his breaking point if that's what is happening

I think the reason why Chris looks different in Res7 and 8 is maybe because he’s older? I mean as you said he joined S.T.A.R.S sometime in 1996 and he was definitely an adult then and the events of 7 and 8 were in between the years 2018 and 2021, so it’s been about canonically 22-25 years plus all the stress he’s gone through over the years

Well Chris was never a member of Umbrella-Azure during the events of RE7 he was confirmed to still be a member of the BSAA as head of the Silver Daggers but was sent by the BSAA during the Louisiana incident with his objectives being to serve as a consultant to Umbrella-Azure on anti-BOW tactics, keep a eye on them to ensure they're actually trying to earn redemption for the crimes caused by their predecessors Umbrella, and Neo-Umbrella, and deal with Connections member Lucas Baker via either killing him or arresting him. And after those objectives were completed Chris went back to the BSAA to continue his work as the head of the Silver Daggers unit.

The reason they have different models for chris is Capcom is using something called unreal engine that scans the actors face and face movement so that is the reason plus in game with re7 and stuff chris is over 50 years old so age can change the way he looks
