Here is my take...yes, more extensive background checks should be done on corpo Vtubers. However, there is also a point where you have to go, were they just being edgy when they were young and stupid, or were they serious..AND do they still feel the same way today? That last part is unfortunately hard to determine and could be up to the company to find out and interview the candidate better to learn more about them and determine if they will take that risk if their past lives are leaked. Unfortunately for Niji in this case, the damage was already done and once people found out, he had to go. The fact that the guy literally said all that himself, and wasn't just getting accused by someone who could have been lying, is what sealed his fate.

Believe it or not, Nijisanji used to be a proper company, and NijiJP is still debatably far better than NijiEN ever was. I’d even argue that early Nijisanji was the place to be if you wanted to be a VTuber and had no interest in being an idol. Back in the day, even Hololive talents would feel welcomed by the staff when on collabs (I think Aqua was the one who said that Niji staff was overall friendlier), the talents lagging behind would still get a paycheque each month (Deron and Tsukino Mito mentioned this once) and the company would pay for many of the basic expenses (Noraneko literally tried to use the company credit card for gacha pulls, and someone else got busted for using the company card to get the most expensive train tickets into Tokyo for shoots). It wasn’t until they got into a formula they deemed to be optimal for making money (greatly motivated by the company going public) that the scummy practices we now associate with Niji began to develop

It reminds me of separating the art from the artist's argument 🤔 or looking at influencers' previous tweets (Like Brooke Schofield's situation). In my opinion, everyone in the content world built up and created a “character” to present themselves to their audience. Once that information is found, the “immersion” is already broken because they built up this character that we, the audience, believe to be authentic. I do think a background check needs to be thorough because once that “immersion” is destroyed, it is really hard to build it back up again and we know these companies spend a lot of money and time creating that character and to lose it all because they didn’t do a deep enough background check is nerve racking. What a complex series of questions but great video! 💕

About time someone made a video on this batshit crazy story. There were signs that there were flaws in the way Nijisanji ran things behind the scenes WAY before the Selen drama or even Zaion’s termination, not the least of which was the fact that this guy got in. Regardless of whether or not he actually did what he said in those Tweets, the messages still should have raised massive red flags for the people hiring VTubers for Nijisanji. The guy was literally talking about drugging women and sleeping with high school girls. He never should have made it in, and if they had actually done their research on him, he wouldn’t have.

rather than niji not doing background checks because they're unprofessional, which they're, i think they simply don't do it because they don't care, even if they might hire a potential criminal, as long as their japanese audience doesn't notice and complain about it, affecting their money bag, then they won't care. I promise you if this person had been debuted on the English branch, nijisanji most certainly wouldn't have acted as fast as they did and make sure to milk some streams and vods out of the creator before kicking them out.

I don’t know if I necessarily agree with this. Taledo said in the video that these tweets were found from people on 2Chan, 4Chan, 5Chan, etc. and they had to dig back 3 years to find these tweets. Let’s imagine this guy was tweeting once or twice a day for three years. That’s A LOT to go through and could take hours. Sure, to be very thorough, they COULD have gone back that far. But let’s be honest, the people that comb through to find vtubers PLs are… not the best intentioned a lot of the time. This was a misstep on Niji’s end, I won’t lie, but I genuinely don’t think it’s realistic to say that Niji could have combed through all of this guy’s social media presence. Plenty of people who are bad get hired and sometimes they do have an active social media presence where they brag or admit to doing bad things (whether they can be identified as true or false is another, like Taledo said as well in this video). Niji, Holo, Phase, idol, etc. are all companies that have the unique and strange exception where people will dig and dig because they want to know. Vtubers are in a strange reality of their own with different rules and norms. Niji had made mistakes in the past, but I don’t think it’s right to say, realistically, that they don’t care, especially in this case. They terminated the guy after he was reported, they looked into it, and took care of it. Sure, it should’ve never been allowed to happen in the first place, but they acted quickly. That says something about the level of severity here. Not only that but I can’t blame Niji for trying to get as many talents as possible because as Taledo said this was the equivalent of an untapped market and they were trying to roll in the money as fast as possible. There’s ethics to follow, of course, but I don’t blame them for trying to pick up as much profit as possible. This was definitely a learning point for them to be more in depth with background checks. But sometimes people can get away with it as they just slip through the cracks. It happens.

it's not that they didn't care, at least in this case. some people are either too low-profile enough to not raise any suspicions or too good at hiding their tracks from potential employers. sometimes some of these people really just slip past your radar, even if you've done a background check on them.

Actually i think they do background checks, or at least try to nowadays? If you try to apply, you will be asked to give your social media handles as well But unfortunately things like that can fall through the cracks and people can very easily hide such things I mean of course you give your government name so im sure they can at least check if youre an actual criminal, but the person applying may not even give their private socials where they may have done or revealed bad things on said socials I hear most places when applying for a job will use the email you applied with and related emails to do background checks but we cant say for certain if they dont or do, do that

I’m not sure if they did background checks back then but, again, I can’t verify that. What I do understand, to an extent, is business. If you’re one of the first to break through into a new market then you want push your brand as much as possible. I’d argue that they did do that because when you think of corporate vtuber companies Nijisanji and Hololive and VShojo are the very first ones I’d think of. That is the MOST desirable thing for a business. Like how some people say “Can you hand me a Kleenex?” instead of saying tissue. Or “Can you grab the Tubberware?” instead of saying a plastic container. You want to be the number one thing associated with a product/entity. I’m not entirely sure how the hiring process is conducted from the hiring manager side since I’ve never been one, but yeah, I’d imagine that some people slip through the cracks if they don’t provide ALL your social media or different accounts.
