Yo, it was stated in either breaking bad or better call Saul. I forgot that the reason to go was in jail for an extra 6 months to a year was because he beat some dude's asshole in jail. I remember this because I'm pretty sure it was. One of his Brothers or father who called another person in The cartel saying that Tuco is gonna be in jail for an extra 6 months to a year because he got in a fight.

I'm mixed and my Mexican side is very different with women than my white side. My white family is very patriarchal and still holds certain "traditional" views like independence being the number one thing in life while my Mexican side is very matriarchal and has a heavy focus on family above everything else. I love both cultures I come from but wow is it a clash sometimes. I actually didn't even realize that the Salamanca family had a motto at first because that is just something I'm used to hearing.

Tuco didn’t get written off BB because he found the character too disturbing, that’s a myth. He was doing a network show at the same time from Mon to Fri and would have to fly from LA to New Mexico to shoot his scenes for BB on the weekends. I think the situation with Abuelita is the typical behavior that gangsters don’t talk details of their business with their wives and they just do their wifely duties and don’t get involved. She really is just a little old lady at this point who may actually have a bit of dementia or Alzheimer’s and just sees Tuco of her sweet grandson just looking after her. And of course in front of Tio, Tuco behaves more like a gangster, because they’re both in the business. He probably learned everything from Tio.

35:31 To add onto why Tuco doesn't get mad at Gonzo here like he does with No Doze, No Doze speaks out of turn. He is taking control of the situation. Taking the focus away from Tuco. Tuco sees that as disrespecting his authority. That is also why he accuses No Doze of thinking Tuco is stupid. He feels the need to add onto what Tuco says. To clarify, as if Tuco can't do that himself. Tuco takes serious offense to that. When Gonzo speaks in this scene, he isn't speaking out of turn or adding onto what Tuco says. He only supports it. Tuco says brilliant, he echoes that, but he doesn't clarify anything. He is essentially agreeing with Tuco. That is why Tuco doesn't react negatively to it.

I think it's safe to say that Tuco was conditioned to be violent from a young age. The flashback with the twins and Hector in One Minute implies to me that was the case for most if not all of the Salamancas, especially since they all carry on Hector's values of family comes first and blood for blood. Tuco's addiction to the drugs he was selling merely made his behavior much more unhinged and erratic. Still, given the nature of the Salamancas in general I wouldn't be surprised if Tuco ended up being very similar to how his is regardless. Great analysis as always!

Great analysis, if I were to add to it, I'd note that in some ways, Jessie and Walt bringing him their 'product' may have contributed to his death, if he was taking the same dose at a higher purity(He wasn't exactly measuring, after all) then he'd be a lot higher and thus likely even more unstable... and it was his drug-related paranoia and high-energy violence and mood swing that lead to his downfall.

Tuco has a sense of fairness within that turmoil boiling in his brain, with remorse for acting too hastily upon others. Add to this No-Doze really stepped on Tuco's decision process with negotiations, at least twice. It was fatal in the end Tuco really had no leash for Jesse Pinkman, call it just bad feelings or Tuco did not like the scrawny being involved in the game. Great video, but quick anecdote for 49:20. I think it's rather obvious that Tuco going Rambo instead of focusing his aim is because he's too overwhelmed in both anger and pain. Anger at Walter and Jesse punking and beating him and getting away in the moment, anger at the random dude (Hank) rolling up, but more importantly pain from his gunshot wound, which no doubt is immense to him. On top of that, gut shots are more often than not fatal due to the many vital organs that are in that region, furthermore when Jesse shot him, the rapidness of the bleed suggested Jesse hit a major bloodway. So it's likely he's bleeding out or otherwise slowly dying and is just running off the adrenaline and ice at that point.

Tuco is one iterations of the consequences of abuse in a family. Lalo is a sociopath. The twins are psychopath. Tuco was probably the least enclibed into following the Salamanca legacy. In a category like Ledger playing the Joker Jack Huston playing Richard Harrow in Boardwalk Empire and Amin Joseph playing Jerome Saint in FX Snowfall. Truly one of kind

On abuelita: its also possible she was in some way an active enabler of the salamancas in the same way livia soprano is in the sopranos. Livia acts oblivious to what Johnny and Tony do "he was a saint" "i don't like that kind of talk" etc. However livia is no stranger to the game, throughout season 1 she manipulates junior and has him try and kill certain individuals, namely brendan filone and her own son, Tony soprano. There isn't enough evidence to suggest abuelita is like this, but it is more than possible, and could explain why hector salamanca is willing to let Mike live despite him being responsible for tuco being in prison and being reluctant to pretend the gun was his.

5:30 How is that contradictory? Nacho literally said that in '96, '97 they were working with the biker gang. He doesn't say that's when Tuco killed "Dog", and doesn't really say how far in the future that happened. I think the interesting part is how Hank and law enforcement misinterpreted Tuco's paranoid, drug induced behavior as a move to take over territory.

Tuco wasn't standing up for them being stupid he wasn't able to directly muscle them so he was putting the fear into them aka don't f around. A classic move. Further emphasized by him telling them to look. It was performative.

I think the reason why tuco's aim was bad in the shootout with hank was because he was losing focus cause of the blood loss.

I don’t think Tuco is playing favourites with Gonzo. When NoDoze speaks up, Tuco is high on Walt’s meth. When Gonzo speaks up, Tuco isn’t high on Walt’s meth.

Movie villains got basic form of morality. Tuco dont seem unique on first glace, but you got into sum stuff that I find quite interesting. Defenetivly a very chronological and rather deep dive for a character of so little screen time which was mainly memorized for his aggressive out bursts. 🤝

Im not an expert either but I belive Tuco has Anti social personality disorder (ASPD, Characterized by rapid mood swings, agression, high sense of self, arrogance, lack of empathy, etc.) and he also shows traits of Borderline personality disorder (BPD, Characterized by extreme emotional disbalance, fear of abandoment, tending to extremes, etc.

Tuco's Grandmother not knowing Salamanca's violence checks out. These old traditional Latin Catholic families regardless if its Sicilian, Napolitan Italian or Mexican, they've near identical cultural customs and practices. Men provide, women care for home and family, they don't ask questions so long they provide. Simple as that. They are not like standard Americans born after 1980s. Theyre old school. IF grandma even slightly knows, she's likely to disregard it and any curiosity because La Familia/La Famiglia and they provide. Not to mention Italians and Mexican Mafia cartel families do a decent job insulated female and adolescent family from the reality of their business. Cartel and Mafia guys who uphold mothers, sisters, wives, grandmothers and nieces isn't a show trope, it just is, it's apart of their Roman Latin Catholic cultural customs. It's not a stereotype nor trope, just a cultural characteristic. I'll also point out the Italian American Cosa Nostra Mafia have a rule: if someone must be whacked, that guy is whacked and their family isn't allowed to be touched. This is not the case with Mexican Cartel, Naples Camorra Mafia, Calabrese Italian 'Ndrangheta Mafia or Sicilian Mafia. If you rat or steal, the true Italian and Mexican Mafia organizations will wipe your family out along with infants. Been known to happen. And btw, Southern Italy and Northern Mexico share a lot of the same issues as far as how powerful their underworld is that it practically runs the overworld.

26:56 -- I have a theory. The guard that Tuco punched was killed instantly and they added a short span to his sentence for battery, but when he knifed the prisoner, he died of his wounds a few months later, adding another possible year for involuntary manslaughter.
