An interesting experiment to try might be teaching your bird, "go on". I taught my Quaker that many decades ago and he managed to figure out that I meant, "OK I want you to do this activity". Whether it was eating the snack I put there for him, or perch on my finger, or go on play with the new toy I just gave him, or go on go out of the cage, I just opened the door. Very interesting because he really figured out the more complex meaning.

At first I thought maybe they were trying to teach him their phone number incase he ever got lost. But I know they're trying to teach him sequential numbers right now, and trying to teach both at the same time would be very confusing. Plus even if they do teach him their phone number, I don't think they'd broadcast even a portion of it to the world. Since he's trying to learn sequential numbers, maybe it would be better to teach him his address incase he ever got lost. 💡

@TheAsharedhett
@TheAsharedhett Ай бұрын
@@TieDyeVikki I'm not denying this, but could you link a source?
@TieDyeVikki
@TieDyeVikki Ай бұрын
@@TheAsharedhett Not a specific source, there are no scientific papers yet, but there is a large university study, the first of it's kind, that's been going on for several years now with thousands of dogs and cats (and various other animals) enrolled who are learning to communicate with buttons. It was started by a speech-language pathologist who works with kids who communicate with AAC devices/speech tablets. She was getting a puppy and wondered what was possible. So her dog Stella started it, but then a sheepadoodle named Bunny became internet famous, followed by many more dogs, including her little brother Otter (standard poodle) who learned almost exclusively through observation. The first cat to learn buttons was an 11 year old named Billi who was amazing... she recently died, but there are several years of videos documenting her journey. She inspired a lot of people to teach their own cats buttons, and many can be found on KZbin, like Russell, Todd, and Foggy. Of course there are always the know-it-alls who say it's all a bunch of crap, they're just pressing random buttons, it's all about food and attention, operant conditioning, confirmation bias, blahblahblah... but the ones who stick around and keep watching usually end up being believers. Of course there are known flaws in an experiment like this, so the results may never be accepted by the scientific community, the same way Koko the gorilla was "debunked". Those same people don't like to talk about Kanzi the bonobo... if you're not familiar, look him up. Btw, I know of a parrot who is truly conversational, in fact I don't think he even does any mimicry... Vinny the galah/rose-breasted cockatoo on Marlene McCohen's channel... but he is extremely difficult to understand until you get used to him, so it mostly sounds like gibberish. Sorry I can't take the time to get you links to all this stuff (some channels don't allow links anyway and then the whole post gets removed), but if you search you should find everything easy enough.
