I think that’s why this channel is so popular: they can be fanatical about a driver/team but still give a fair view of everyone. Not mean to anyone, not personal attacks, but pretty well informed opinions.

There are a lot of fans just like Matt. The internet just seems to be a platform for people who want to spread negativity. It is really sad that someone who doesn't try to hide who is favorite driver is, has one of the least biased podcasts.

You follow any sport for a while and you'll eventually pick a few favourites, and if you follow it as extensively as these lads follow F1 its kinda impossible to not become a fan of a certain driver/team lol. Its more authentic to come out the bat and say "yeah I'm a Charles fan" rather than try your hardest to seem neutral. I've noticed it in football as well, as that's the primary sport I follow, just dedicate a section to get hyped/feel bad for your team/driver/player and spend the rest of the video/post going over the rest of the competitors objectively. It's really that simple. Try hard to seem neutral and every Max fan would accuse you of being #Blessed while every McLaren fan would call you a Red Pastalian in diguise (or worse, people would wrongly assume you're a liverpool fan).

I didn't think Max's comments about wanting to come back were weird. He hated the show. He criticised the handling of the FP1 incident. Those were all valid comments. And in the end, against most expectations, the track turned out to be very good. Imo it gave us one of the most fun and exciting races. So I get that he looks forward to coming back. the track wasn't good at all. Most of the time you had no clue where they were even racing and what the next straight would be. There were zero interesting lines to take due to the lay out and the fact going off line was terrible. Close battle at the front does not equate a good race (otherwise we'd all watch F2, F3 or Indy).

I think Max was kind of right about the party atmosphere over sport. You had probably the most hyped and anticipated race all season and it was pretty much just a tourism advert for one of the most famous and well known cities in the world. Instead of trying to further acclimate the USA to F1. The weekend was mostly style over substance. Seen even in the post race interviewers where the three drivers were taken to the other side of the track for a glorified publicity shot in front of the Bellagio fountain and then back all the around the track again for the actual podium ceremony. Like at first I thought “oh ok they’re going to give them the trophies and right as the Champaign starts spraying the fountains will spray and light up too”. Nope. It was completely pointless and served only as another tourism ad for Vegas, which again is one of the most recognizable cities on the planet. It also feels like a waste that a race this good was the second to last race in the season. Maybe should have held off until March 2024 and make Vegas the first or second race in the season. So all the people who used the highly talked about Vegas GP as an entry into F1 can still watch a whole season.
@foxyfoxington2651
@foxyfoxington2651 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think pretty much everyone watching had the exact same thought. If they want to make them events over races, then that's fine. The problem is their production is not up to that level. Not integrating the Bellagio fountain was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Almost every single podium already looks pretty much the same, and they had an opportunity to do something really different and unique for Vegas, and instead it came off looking like a commercial for the Bellagio. ...and having the US GPs in Spring is also a brilliant idea. Get them as far away from Football season as possible, because they can't compete with the NFL.

"where was this energy when...." You got to admit there is a different kind of energy when Verstappen does it compared to when Russell did it. Back then it was like: "yeah, it is smart. It is part of the game. And as sidenote: the penalties should be changed". When Verstappen did it: THIS IS SO UNFAIR, the penalties need to be changed, etc. But this is natural since Verstappen is a more divisive driver. Also, besides Verstappen's criticism, Alonso said a lot of negative things of Las Vegas without it getting much attention/drama.

My hate is not on the grand prix per se, it was on the people claiming that it is the best, the future of F1 etc. especially after FP1. The race itself was good, but the circumstances could easily have turned dangerous this time of year and night. So I am glad that the chaos didn't overturn the race in a too bad way. The whole weekend was "How do you feel about this GP?" "Would you say this was the best race of the year¿". They were trying so hard to get the drivers to say how awesome Las Vegas was that I'm sure that after Max said what he said they told him to talk nicer about the event. Even if the track gave us plenty of entertainment during the race, what Max said is still true, the track's layout is shit, no fun to drive (the opposite of Monaco, great track, not so good races) and there's no passion (not to mention the problems with fans, tickets prices and the incident with Sainz). I'm also not sure if Max was the only one to be told this, even Charles seemed a bit too excited about how great the track was

I don't understand why people are coming for Max because he sang on the radio...he didn't play the song himself, the team did, they were literally messing with him because of how much he was complaining. They were joking around, he even said in the press conference that he wants singing lessons from Geri before the next race. Also in the press conference after the race he was asked whether he still stands by everything he said and he replied that he does. Him actually enjoying the race and saying it publicly proves where his priorities lie as he explained after qualifying. You misunderstood and misheard Max completely. He said that he does not like this sort of track he did not say that the racing would be bad. He said that he does not like the noise, the glitz and glamour and that it distracted from the sport. He did not say that he disliked Las Vegas. He did say that he felt like a clown standing on a presentation podium with all the razzmatazz because he feels uneasy in the limelight’s (contrary to Hamilton who needs the limelight). He did not say that the American way was/ is wrong only that HE does not feel at ease with it. Of course he was happy with the outcome of the race and his win that is not contradicting his feelings about glitz and glamour. But I do understand that you are not willing to understand the nuances. It is much easier to ridicule Max. For me that is very low standard but….I do understand that you are still unhappy about a Leclerc pole transformed in a Verstappen win, for the 100th time. Those 5 second penalties that people been getting for not giving positions back have always been stupid because it hardly has any affect on them. But now it was all of a sudden everyone has a problem with them. When George and other drivers have been getting them people didn't seem to be making a big fuss about it. Same for when another driver causes a crash that completely ruins the other drivers race. They should should start giving drive thru pit lane penalty for those.

I feel like I'm the only one who thinks the 5sec penalty genuinely fked Max race until the safety cars.....he pushed his tyres earlier than he would've liked to create the 5sec gap which fked him and caused Charles to pass him on track, this made him pit early and the penalty dropped him to 11th while when Leclerc pitted he came out 3rd with a couple cars in-between them....Russell turning into him and bringing out the safety car basically saved him by giving him a tyre advantage over Charles, if this didn't happen everyone would be more happy he didn't make his way back though the field as fast for the win 🤷‍♂ *cough* Singapore

If Max didn't get 5s penalty and wing damage he would have Won the race with 10s+ as he was 4.5 s ahead before slowing down to help Checo

As a Red Bull fan I said "That's a penalty" as well Matt because it clearly was a slam dunk penalty. And yes, penalties don't always end up helping the "victim". We have seen that many times in the past and will see it many times in the future. I don't get why they don't use the "drive through within a certain number of laps" penalty anymore. That would end those shananigans quickly enough.

I think to be fair to Max after the race he will have been on a high from actually racing a lot of the race and being challenged. Also, pretty sure they changed it a couple of seasons ago where the stewards don't tell teams to switch the positions back, as technically they would then be helping teams avoid a penalty, which is a bit weird when you think about it.

I think this track is purely a race track. Qualifying here is not spectacular and that's probably why Max said he doesn't like the track, but this layout does allow cars to follow and pass and even re-pass after being passed which is not something we usually see nowadays in F1

@einstijn138

Honestly, I don't mind it. We Europeans already get lucky with most of the races. Also, if they race at 10.00 in the morning on Sunday, it will only be 19.00 in Europe. If they do want to stick to an evening race, racing at 20.00 on Saturday would still only have the race start at 5.00 in Europe. Early, yes. But not too unreasonable. PS: these times are CET (Western European time), not BST (British time)

"slam dunk penalty" right? both onboards, both drivers turn hard left to navigate the corner... cars continue to go straight, not turning. cold tyres, no grip, close quarters racing... the fact that half the grid had similar issues was argument enough to negate the penalty. but they didn't. Max's reputation preceded him there, since he's done that before. Had it been any other driver, there is no penalty there. That being said, this was, by far, the best race since F1 left grooved tyres.

I share Verstappen’s criticism of the over the top showy nature of it all. The “Super Bowl” style opening ceremonies was simply comical. It felt fake, it felt contrived, it was beyond over the top. It felt very “all fluff and no substance”. Especially after the manhole cover fiasco. That said, I won’t lie about always wanting to see a Vegas GP featuring the strip as a portion of the track, and the race was excellent. I’d say there’s 3 things that F1 and Vegas need to do for this to be a truly successful location on the calendar. (Beyond the manhole cover) 1. GA should be reasonable price for most fans. If F1 is gonna sell expensive tickets, make it the start/finish grandstands, and if they want to sell super expensive tickets, make it the paddock/VIP tickets. 2. Hotels should have different tiers of room pricing based on location, view-ability of the track and VIP package deals. I’m fine with the roof being far less accessible as long as… 3. (and most importantly IMO) Make all public bridge advertisements transparent for those on the bridge. Allow the local public to see *something* without monetary payment because goodness knows they’re already paying in full through the disruption of daily life, even more so with much of the event taking after midnight. Just those 3 changes I think will grow the sport astronomically more than what they’ve done and will only benefit the profitability of the Vegas GP and F1 in general.

9:40 - on the lead changes happening several times in the race - Please recall that for most of Europe there was a stretch of races where max had led... Several races? Or a couple hundred laps? Without losing the lead once, even from pit rotation. The streak was only broken because Leclerc barely came out ahead when max pitted late, and max just sailed past him immediately.

As an American, whenever we have BIG events within a city, we generally close roads that need to be closed for that event, and traffic is diverted. If Vegas and F1 want this GP to be as big as they advertised, then they should do it properly (including viewing opportunities)! Waiting until after 10pm because of traffic is ridiculous.

Given the distance when they neared the chicane, Leclerc committing to the overtake was basically a "P2 or barrier" divebomb. Checo did expect that Leclerc would attempt something. He didn't expect Leclerc going full kamikaze, risking his own race (let alone Checo's).
