Dei is okay, but merit is better. No one should be rejected based on sex, gender, ethnicity, or skin color. It should be on the merit of their skills, and character.

I’m not disagreeing here but the concept of merit based hiring is deeply flawed due to our own innate biases. The basis of this flaw is the exact reason DEI came into existence. I hate people are choosing to use DEI as a scapegoat to inefficiency or lack of merit. However, I do completely understand the other sides (non-DEI supporters) perception of the issue and DEI programs going too far. When done correctly, DEI isn’t just about one race, sex, ethnicity, or skin color-it’s about all variations and ensuring we are seeing the full range of possible candidates to bring into the company while gaining employees meet the responsibilities required to perform the job but also bring different perspectives that help the company grow and connect with various audiences. It’s a good business decision all in all. I believe AI will definitely help us overcome biases where merit based hiring becomes a reality AND where DEI can play a pivotal role in combination, not separate.

On the other hand, nobody should be hired when they're not qualified to do the job. The person that paid for an education, has experience should have priority over an uneducated person with no experience.

@ I'm going to be completely straightforward with you. When it comes to efficiency, money, or saving lives. The very last thing I think about is biases you claim that are effected. Because the people who get in those said difficult job should be the best these companies can afford and requirements often require critical experience, training, and merit. And in this day of age were failure leads to jail, death, or record damning marks. People can't afford this stupid lens of being picky even if the argument you propose some people do, or the majority passively do. Lowering this restrictions by blocking potential candidates because of this fear of bigotry or lack of representation and enacting policies that serve as the filter for potentially live saving and changing i ultimately self destructive and ironically in ways prevents gatekeeping of passionate individuals who desire to strive for said occupation.

@ DEI isn’t about lowering standards-it ensures the best candidates aren’t overlooked due to bias. It doesn’t block anyone; it removes barriers that have historically kept qualified people from getting a fair shot. Meritocracy only works if hiring is truly fair, but studies show biases (like names on résumés) still affect decisions. DEI ensures hiring is based on skill, not outdated expectations. I’ve worked in life-and-death situations in the Operating Room/Hospital, and I know firsthand-competency matters. DEI helps make sure we get the most qualified people, period. We can agree to disagree, but I’d highly recommend researching DEI’s official purpose beyond what many say today-it often contradicts the misconceptions people have about it. I do appreciate your comment though!
