Why didn’t you mention Ondo? An Electricity Regulatory Bureau has existed in Ondo since 2020. They were part of the first 4 states to get autonomy. Lagos and Oyo don’t even have full autonomy yet. Please the great work going on in Ondo.

Unfortunately the National Grid is dead. The allocation of power to DisCos based on a sharing formula and not remittance performance will ensure no growth. Eko DisCo paying 90%+ and Kaduna DisCo paying 10% with no consequences means improvement cannot occur. The problem of the power sector is the problem of Nigeria: no reward for performance; no punishment for failure. Nothing will change under EA2023 unless you disconnect from FGN - TCN and NBET.

Since 2013, the Discos have operated as private entities, albeit under the regulatory oversight of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which determines pricing, consumer protection, and other critical parameters. The government has also extended support through various CBN financing loans aimed at enhancing their business operations. Nonetheless, as noted by the speaker, the Discos must establish robust structures to achieve profitability and attract further investment to enhance their overall operations.
