4:30 All these effects, green box productions and computer animations, if done well, are quite nice to look at and sometimes breathtaking. The only thing that unfortunately gets lost is the art of acting. I grew up in the 70s as the son of a movie show and was able to see many jewels of film art. like spaghetti western movies, great classics like Ben Hur, Ten Commandments, Nosferatu or Django and movies etc .... Miss this movie experience, even if there's a lot of new stuff worth seeing, but back then some really talented actors ! No matter how talented, actors are these days,the cost of the show increases to absurd heights today.and so is the wage.

oh my, I am now living in the future. I love the way how new science and technology are being applied to many things. I also love how you present the different technology in this diverse way. It gave me goosebumps and I am amazed. I saw many digital studios on the internet featuring the science and technologies but I didn't expect to this good in following this trends.

For the green room dome: what if actors wore scanners/transmitters in multiple places on their body so they can scan 'everything'? It would be cheaper and easier, but I don't know about the quality.

@3:25 They are using sigma art lenses on the cameras. That looks like the 18-35. The camera looks custom. Similar to a sony specialty camera. It does not have internal recording ability...which means some server type IO is utilised to resolve all the different angles. Neat.

Does this mean we can watch movies from any perspective (in VR) in the future, or is this only to aid producers in choosing the right angles for the final cut?
@NaakaQ6 жыл бұрын
this juncture is option B, but in the future with enough hard drive space maybe? point clouds from my understanding are very data heavy and that means something like this would be in the terabytes+ range. Again at this point in time it is better for directors to create a virtual camera and "film" from there, that would make it only a video format size rather than point cloud size.
@NaakaQ6 жыл бұрын
also as another thought process where would you get the warehouse size room to watch this movie from for true freedom of perspective? otherwise you deal with what the director would give you and at this point stationary sitting while rotating your head around.
@simtekgroup30806 жыл бұрын
If the answer is option B, then I would suggest a more cost effective scenario to producers. Hire a director that can actually do his/her job.

Because they weren't cleaned up properly. the western shots were edited pretty shite, but with a good motion artist and vfx team you can get some really convincing camera moves out of it. Also, the age of cartoony vfx is technically over. all big budget productions have tons of stuff in them nowadays where noone even noticed it's cgi. Only the cheaply done fx get noticed

That fancy studio seems like a good way to refine the technology, but it still looks shit. It also doesn't add to the shot.
@spartanboosts6 жыл бұрын
It only adds another option to "directing". Yeah, you could say there is a line to draw between directing and editing...but in reality the director gets the most control if he masters this over a filming crew and camera operators. But traditional movie making and this are two different ball games. Let's explore another method of filming to allow for even more possibilities. In essence another tool in the directors kit.
@candykanefpv6 жыл бұрын
it's not that, it's just that the cinematics of what they're doing doesn't make the scene any better. neither of you get that point. You can have much more drama and tension in a scene by ommitting everything else that's going on.
@craggolly6 жыл бұрын
The cleaned up version of the shot that was only shown briefly was actually fairly well done and this system allows for camera position to be determined later and makes fancy 3d flyarounds of actors, maybe frozen in time like the credits of deadpool a lot easier to produce

Already looks gimmicky. The only thing that it can really do that is special is the whip around in 3D space. This is a shot that has not been interesting since Buffalo 66 used it in a unique way and The Matrix used it up. This seems like a technology that is not made for cinema but more for creating worlds like in VR situations.

@craggolly6 жыл бұрын
Streaming? not in a hundred years. The data still has to be compiled together, motion has to be digitally solved and a big team of vfx artists have to clean it all up frame by frame. That's not gonna happen in real time any time soon. You should take your bets on performance captured pornography.

100% CGI movies suck. All of them. They are souless and cheap. VFX should be created by imagination and real objects, not pixels. Old movies with "real" VFX are still very much watchable and re-watchable, majority of modern CGI movies are 1-off.

They showed scenes that weren't cleaned up. It's like saying that a half finished car doesn't look too fancy. Movies actually don't look horrible nowadays. The only time you actually notice the effects is when they're poorly done. All high budget movies are filled to the brim with digital effects that noone notices but the one part that doesn't look so good is what all people think to be the only digital effect.
