Great interview. I wonder if KVD would take over the MLF if Duckett stepped down? I believe he would and could give validation to the organization. Just a question that never gets asked but I feel it will take someone like him to get professional bass fishing on the right track and back to the ESPN days. Keep up the great work and thank you for what you do.

I made more than a living as a charter owner and fishing guide. 9 boats, bluefin licenses, an Atlantic Salmon lease on the Miramichi river, as well as guiding for striped bass. Spending every cent I made in the armed forces on a boat 20 years ago was the best decision I ever made (aside from marrying the woman who also became my business partner)

Amazing take on FFS. I fish local tournaments here in SC other than a few rare occasions you can’t compete in local tournaments without ffs. I have it and can catch fish on it but I just don’t enjoy staring at a screen all day so I choose not to use it. Only problem is it is extremely hard to compete without using it.

Your 2.0- one on one is very… very good. Show is Fun & insightful when you & guest discussing your questions or guests questions/answers. Just know KVD will be successful in his new tv production career. And yes it would be awesome to hear KVD “rip off the band aid” on this current negativity!
@Shawn_Lai4 ай бұрын
Great to see both you and KVD discussing so many important topics. The mutual respect is so evident and great to see. I think FFS is old news... you see and hear the older anglers being against it and discrediting young anglers, but these seasoned veteran anglers have had exposure to and most likely ability to use it before everyone else. They chose not to learn something that now leaves them at a disadvantage. They have had probably more of an opportunity to learn and adopt FFS, but they chose not to. FFS isnt like some magical thing where fish just automatically get caught... anglers still need to figure out a way to catch the fish and find them at a macro level and then zoom in at a micro level using FFS. GPS mapping probably had a greater impact on how people fish.. nobody complains about that. I'm sure it is very hard to maintain that competitive edge at the sports highest level and its probably scary thinking that you might get cut in the next 2 years and be replaced by the next generation but anglers have to adapt. If anyone cared about conservation or any of the other negative impacts they claim FFS has on fishing, they would move tournaments outside the spawn and not allow bed fishing. Watching someone bed fish is 10x more boring that someone on FFS. Im excited to see KVD's show though, that will be interesting. A youtube series would be cool too! Good interview Ike!

I just fished the MLF Toyota at Eufaula and my Day 2 Pro was using FFS Humminbird 360.... * sweeps up to 125 feet;* provided very-clear images in every direction of structure, the bottom and the fish, even when sitting still;* gave a 360-degree view under the water that was constantly updating;* zoomed up to 10X to show fish, structure and vegetation; and * had Range Rings to show the distance from an angler’s boat to the target to precisely cast to the fish. He targeted underwater stumps where he could see fish and he caught them and he had his 5 keepers. I spent my time as the Co Angler fan casting blindly behind the boat and actually caught 2 fish (keepers) and I was the his only Co Angler in 3 days to weight in Fish...I missed the 3rd day cut by 1oz b I had 1 fish dead 4oz penalty MLF Rule: Any pro that, in the judgment of the tournament director, operates the boat in such a manner that unfairly handicaps his/her co-angler and any co-angler who unfairly handicaps his/her pro may be disqualified for that day. So you could interpret the Pro Angler that is using FFS to catch fish and the Co Angler does not have the that opportunity, really does Unfairly Handicaps the Co Angler IMHO ..So really what is the incentive for a Co Angler to Spend $550.00 to enter a tournament as a Co Angler??? Both my Pro Anglers were great guys, Day 1 we power fished all day which was really fun I caught a #5-6oz And my day 2 Pro used FFS and he was a great guy but to be competitive he has to use FFS to compete

Great show... Bass fishing has become an elitist sport. In the 90's I could go out and tournament fish without the crazy expense. It still cost a lot but you could compete out of a $10,000 boat and a $100 fish finder.

Fishing small local tournaments can be done in a $5,000 bass tracker. Which is what most people do.

Great interview! Maybe him going to TV will trigger another boom in the tv anglers as the old guard potentially passes the torch? As far as tournament fishing on TV…people saying it’s unwatchable really crack me up. It’s still the same view of the anglers ass and same amount of dead air as we wait for the bite. FFS didn’t make it that way, it’s just something you don’t like. You need one of 2 things to keep viewers and ideally you get both: 1) super charismatic anglers who will talk candidly to the camera even when fish aren’t biting. Zona, Mercer and Co can’t carry the convo the entire time. Best case is that person is also giving out details that people can take to their home lakes and use. 2) you need fish catches, the more the better. Sprinkle in some mondos to get everyone fired up! To me that’s what the Cups did so well, very little dead air (I realize it’s a made for TV product) but you got to see people’s personalities develop on the water, maybe learn a little and see a bunch of catches. For slower sports like fishing and golf I would much rather see something like that over tuning in for an entire days worth of live coverage

We have a whole group of anglers in the last 4-5 yrs that have had everything handed to them in order to get where they are. Boats , equipment and expenses no hard work involved in order to get there but fishing. When a person has zero hard work involved in that type of investment.you get what we have today. And what I mean is if someone works their ass off to get the capital together to buy all things necessary to compete at that level they are less likely to do shady shit and or cheat. When everything is handed to you there’s none of that. The negative press coming out of professional fishing I’ve seen in the last 4-5 yrs is a direct consequence of guys who have zero respect for the game. Your own hard work builds integrity and that’s what’s missing today’s game.

I am struggling right now on what to do, I was fishing tournaments till 2019, sold boat, got shoulder surgery, now looking for a boat again and i cant commit to the price of the boats or the declining of the fishery, so what is the motivation to continue?????? Price per fish is crazy and as time goes, you cant catch a fish unless your a pro. Weekend warrior is dead. So if you do math, fishing will only be for the rich with no job. How can it be anything else. Money ruins everything and now it has ruined fishing. Thanks ike. Whats going to get me to buy back in? Harder fishing. Lol

I agree there needs to be some limitations on how much tech the anglers should be able to have & use! I'm not against FFS, and have a lvs34 system on my Hobie pa12-360 kayak. I've only had it a year & been fishing my whole life & an avid kayak angler for 10 years. That said, I don't use it all the time. I can find & catch fish without it. In my opinion the tournament organizations should limit amount of units, size screens, or do a total screen surface area limit. So then the anglers could choose how & where they want what sized units. They should limit to 1 single FFS transducer & I think they should limit amount of tournaments FFS should be able to be used! Let's say half the tournaments without & half with it.. then we can see who's the best all around anglers & not who's best at FFS! I believe there's a small group of guys that completely depend of FFS to complete at all. That's not a professional angler! It would be nice to know who can't find & catch them without it & remove them from the professional level because they don't deserve to be there if that the case. They can't ban it, it's to late for that & electronics companies wouldn't allow it. But some serious limitations should be put in place. I stopped watching the tournaments because of it, it's boring to watch, I'm not impressed with what "pro angler" wins because of using it. I can catch them without it & I'm a nobody that would get my ass kicked in most tournaments! I don't fish tournaments but love fishing. Even a bad day of fishing is a good day on the water in my kayak!

I respect you both but disagree! I view FFS helps eliminate water! Still have to catch them! It just opens up the bass who are suspended! We could never access them! We didn't ban flashers, we didn't ban sonar, we didn't ban down scan or side imaging! Limit it to two transducers on the bow, and that's it! Sorry, but we can't let Randy Blaukat run things!
