Something AI can never do.
@geoinmotАй бұрын
It is a good time for musicians. Instead of replacing artists, AI hype has exposed itself. It can not be as creative as we are. Humans are still the kings of art. It will never change.
@VyrkadianАй бұрын
That would be true if all AI technology development stopped today, but it’s constantly evolving and progressing. Creativity comes from your experiences and from the knowledge you’ve gathered throughout your life. AI is currently in a stage of gaining experience and already possesses the combined knowledge of millions of human beings; in a few more iterations, it will surpass us in the creative aspect as well. Even so, I don’t think all is lost. As the video’s creator says, there will be people who listen to anything, and others who prefer music created by flesh-and-blood artists.
@geoinmotАй бұрын
@Vyrkadian AI is not gaining any experience or knowledge. It is as dumb as a brick. It's as experienced and knowledgeable as a Casio calculator. But I understand how easily some be tricked into humanizing something that is so far from the human experience. Humans can go a long way with a little knowledge and experience, AI has all of the internet/information from everywhere in the world and yet it cannot understand a single thing. It's just a calculator, man.
@dm857924 күн бұрын
The problem is that "creativity" isn't valued very much. Each genre of music is filled with bands and artists that sounds exactly as a million others. And nothing that is played on the radio is standing out. Let's face it - most people don't care. They are happy with the most generic sounding stuff.

@@FreakingOutWithBillyHume I think the problem with absolutely no gatekeeping is a net negative though. Many young people produce their own music including recording but you can't be great at everything. Being a sound engineer is a whole different profession for itself. Hendrix would never have been able to turn his visions into reality the way he did without the genius of Eddie Kramer. He was a virtuoso in his own right and most people can't be great at several things. That's why the quality inevitably suffers. And that is why most of the revival is around live music not recorded one. The gatekeepers had deep pockets and incredible talent that was specialized in helping those giants like Stevie Wonder translate their language into sounds. That is now mostly gone.

The lack of a monoculture is so spot on. There is this guy Mdou Moctar. He is from Niger. That's right, Niger, not Nigeria. That's truly "middle of nowhere" for most people. But he's out there playing shows and festivals, all because of his songs being traded through smartphones. To be fair, he was spotted by a producer who brought him to western attention, but it proves you're 100% right in stating that no one is going to come discover you, you have to go out and get people to notice you. And the recognition can come from anywhere at any time. So get out there and start doing it. Best of luck, and be unique, be yourself! 🙂

As someone who spends hours crafting unique music and experiences every day, I can't help but feel that those who rely solely on AI are missing out on the joy of the creative process. I may not always get it perfect, but the journey is what makes it worthwhile.

Music made with passion will always beat out AI music.

"Comparison is the theft of joy." Spot on. The enemy of artists (and I select that term intentionally) is that when creating it's easy to create from the outside, in. Which is to say thinking about the the medium or the perceived fans you might get, and forgetting that art comes from the inside out. If you keep that in mind, THEN you look at the craft of making music and get it sounding amazing. But it all comes from the heart. I love your take on the business. I've subscribed and will stay tuned.

Live always came first until the 1990s. Artists needed to prove themselves by attracting local fans and a manager's investment before any label would even consider them. Today, I think the biggest opportunity may be live streaming.

This was a little bit of fresh air to hear. I stopped making music for about 3 or 4 years because I felt like I was getting lost in the crowd and I didn't really have anything to offer that the world hasn't already heard a billion times. So I focused on learning audio engineering. I started school for Audio last year after learning on my own for 8 years before that. School has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and I have to write music for class, I'm starting to remember why I loved making music. Music has been an important part of my life since the day I saw my first electric guitar 28 years ago. I've been in a dark place lately in my life and I think getting back to writing and creating is what I've been missing. Who knows...maybe I'll make something people can relate too.

"Comparison is the thief of joy"....a sentence for the ages. As both a performer and an AI lyricist and being 80 yrs old, I have the bonafides of an elder, self taught and playing since the '70's. You make a lot of sense so I have subscribed to your channel. My thoughts are that AI offers the lyricist a competent writing partner. So far, AI prompt-generated lyrics always seem to have a "tell", an odd choice of words or forced rhyme that does not work. But for the lyric writer AI can be an advantage. While you don't "own" the music, it can show your lyrics in a profound way and you do own the copyright to the lyrics if not the public domain music/arrangement. The music creation efficiency and correction cycle is just disruptive technology. However, to your point(s), if you can play live, you can still have a career in music. There is nothing like a live concert and the human connection. Before long, AI will be making virtual full band videos with virtual players that are probably indistinguishable from live humans....but they will not go on tour, play at your local venue and give you the live vibes. And, in the end, the creative individual will find a way and we should not cave to the technology......just use it. There are creative remix DJ's that just take a little of this and that from others and make something new....AI is next level and disruptive. As you say, "Comparison is the thief of Joy" Making music has always been a joy. It will remain joyful no matter how you make it. Play on! sub.

I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel. From a lot of the things you've been bringing up I'm assuming we've been in the business around the same amount of time. I've been lucky and was able to make a decent steady income and for the most part stayed busy. I went through many different changes including stages of bitterness, anger... luckily I have some great friends that were there to give me a reminder of what I do for a living and remind me of why I got into it, and that always snapped me out of the funk. I spent my career touring and playing as a musician playing other peoples music. It was only after things went to crap a few years ago I decided to remain off the road and start focusing on myself. Having time to reflect on the future I just want to add my opinion to this topic... There will always be a future in music an as an artist, it's what we do focus on your own/collaborated stuff, play/create for yourself. For your younger audience they are the future, imagine the possible tech that may evolve out of quantum computing... For the older guys that have been around, we better make way for the next gen... For the hobbyists, welcome, enjoy yourself. History has shown that it's always been a select few that rise to the top, but there are many ways to make a living and always remember why you started. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. Again this is such a great channel and perspective.

Thanks for your input. The bitterness and anger have been hard to deal with at times. @@FreakingOutWithBillyHume I truly believe we are wired differently, what other industry goes into business to lose money hahaha. It's been since I did a pub gig, but a buddy called me up a few weekends ago and asked me to sit in and do a duo. At the end of the night we were packing up and he says he'll send me an e-transfer in a week or so, I was confused, I asked him if why he wasn't getting cash, apparently a lot of dives no longer pay right away. I wasn't concerned about the money, I was concerned that the local musicians allowed themselves to be put in that situation. As we were talking and I was trying to explain that we are our own worst enemy, a server came up to me with the bill for the burger I had earlier. I couldn't help but look at him and laugh. I feel for the next gen, but I know they'll figure it out. As for me I love the music to much, I'm discovering a whole new world with the tech. Have a fantastic weekend.

We would typically have him replace programmed drums on songs that we had started which is of course backward of the best way to do it but that's what I had. Anyway, his new drum tracks were always awesome and so in the pocket. Yet when I looked at the wave forms I could see that he was actually rushing his hi hats and other parts. It made no sense but sounded great so it went untouched. Point being that math and precision has nothing to do with soul and feel.
