The idea of using sustainable materials in construction is fantastic, but do you think the culture of fast and cheap building in America can realistically change? Or will cost and speed always take priority over long-term benefits and sustainability?

In a capitalist society, value will likely remain a key driving factor. The real question is: how do we create value in this context? A few ideas include focusing on sustainability for future generations-particularly through policies and practices that support inheritance and long-term wealth preservation-offering tax incentives, and developing affordable, eco-friendly products. Additionally, fostering creativity and innovation is essential, as many regulations can stifle progress. For example, in our county, building codes require an electrical outlet every six feet, whether it’s necessary or not. Relaxing such requirements could reduce costs and promote energy efficiency. Corporations and governments also play a critical role by avoiding excessive markups on sustainable products that are inexpensive to produce. This approach would help keep costs down and make sustainable options more accessible. To create a truly sustainable agenda, it must be a team effort-without collective action, we won’t achieve the desired results.
