Up until this point, I’ve been a show-only fan. But I’d have no problem with getting that 17-book collection of all of the novels, novellas, & short stories, and starting with Books 7-8-9 for myself. look at it this way: better to end than to overkill, especially if ends well, cause after 3,4 seasons, plot armor necessary to have the same "main crew" always becomes THE flaw of any show, and for realism based The Expanse especially..

@ranekeisenkralle82653 жыл бұрын
I agree in that Ashford got some pretty good character development, but I am okay with him not being around anymore. For a simple reason: He got what way too few characters get these days - a kickass last huzzah and a death that impacted the story in a major way. Overall a worthy sendoff for a great character. Bringing him back (as much as I understand the sentiment) would undermine all of this and render his sacrifice meaningless. He has sacrificed literally everything in order to complete his mission. Every aspect of the show is phenomenal. Books 7&8 are fantastic and seeing the bits of the Laconia arc at the end of Season 5 got me all excited about the possibilities of seeing the full Laconia story line and resolution of the whole story. Stopping the story at 2/3 is so disappointing. And no, a Firefly like movie wrap-up won't do it justice either. For crying out loud... Could a book to screen adaptation actually faithfully complete the whole story for once??? I think most people are way over estimating what it would take to depict the 30 year time gap from book 6 to 7. The medical technologies described in the books made it seem like 30 years in aging would be more like 5 years in today's aging. Have you seen the incredible makeup and special effects on this show?? All they need to do for appropriate aging in the story is add a few wrinkles, a little grey hair here and there, getting a little more pudgy in the gut and a few complaints about aches and pains. NO big deal. They don't need to recast or wait for the actors to age 30 years. Aging them in a very appropriate and believable way would be trivial for this team. Besides, I want to see Muskrat wagging his tail and floating around in zero G on the Roci. ✌(-‿-)✌

Not enough people in Amazon prime watch Expanse. They have series that have more people watching their series. So why ”waste” money on series that people are ”not interested” in! Scifi sell badly… so we always hang on lose rope in any scifi series. It can end any time. Enjoy while you can.

Minor book 7/8 spoilers: Books 7 and 8 are thin enough that I don't think full 10-episode seasons covering them would be satisfying. If you think about them, there aren't many factions covered, and aren't that many plot points or characters. To make a full season of TV from book 8 in particular, you'd have to write a lot of additional stuff since most of book 8 is descriptive text with very little dialogue. Somewhat ironically, they would work better as VOD movies than they would as TV seasons.

Hi, Pete, great talk. Very nice to hear some Expanse news and your consideration. Would you make a video talking about the book(s) - what you expect will be portrayed in this upcoming season and what is unlikely to be used or referred to from Baylon's Ashes? I wish in such a video you would hold back nothing, so to encourage a full conversation of Baylon's Ashes' narratives and arcs (and even those of all the books), those of the series and the contrasts and conflicts among them. I think it would be great to have a discussion well before any Season Six is divulged or revealed about the divergences and consistencies we anticipate. That was a heated topic at times in the last two seasons - it would be stimulating to anticipate it. One detail, how do you know this final season will conform closely to Babylon's Ashes? Regarding the content of this video. 1) Their proposed new trilogy, different from the The Expanse. I'd be very impressed if Abraham and Frank could do a series of the scope, depth and quality of anything published by Herbert or Le Guin, much less something that could compare to the combination of the two. What little I've read of Corey's works is more space opera than substantive literature. It's been fine storytelling, but thin or light, and trite when dealing with the heroic struggles for self and for values. They try, often admirably, but fall well short of such masters of literature or narrative as Hemingway, C. P. Snow, Lawrence Durrell or John Le Carre. (I won't here argue my claim.) 2) I wonder why Amazon determined to produce only as far as Season Six. I presume Amazon is in it primarily for the profit and secondarily for reputation. If it seems to be popular as well as profitable, wouldn't Amazon spring for more, or, at the very least, leave open to the public a tantalizing possibility they might opt in for more? Perhaps the series is not sufficiently popular or profitable. Certainly Amazon has the liberty of ample money to spend. 3) I agree it's not likely there will be a movie or series of movies for the reasons you proposed. Waiting a long while, aging up the cast, again, as you say, not likely. It would have to be a comprehensive reboot. I agree three more seasons with Amazon would be the way to go. Thanks for reading this.

Yeah, I've been planning on doing a BA video with full book spoilers. I'll get around to it at some point. The creators have said in several interviews that they're sticking to BA for season 6. I'm guessing they touch on some things outside of it, but not really getting into story points that happen after the time jump. I'll get more into that in the video. To the other things you mentioned 1. I think they made light of invoking those names with the "disappointing love child" joke. I think it will be interesting to see them dip their toes into a far-future story, but I think they writing style will be pretty consistent. They've genre hopped throughout the main series without changing much in how they craft things. 2. I think the metric that's probably more important to streaming services is how many new subscriptions a series generates. Maybe that means the after 3 seasons they think there will only be diminishing returns in that regard. The series is popular, and a lot of people watch it. I imagine that Amazon thinks they'll lose less people by ending at 6 than they'd gain by continuing to spend money developing it.
@lightemam3 жыл бұрын
@@PetePeppers1 Thanks a lot for your reply. I look forward to your video with full book spoilers! 1. Good answer. I overlooked that they made light of their self-comparison and tempered their aspirations with "disappointing love child." 2. The number of new subscriptions a series generates is an important third factor, not more consequential than making money, but definitely a very significant part of their money-making. Your reasoning and conclusion is very compelling, thanks.

Bringing people back together is more a function of lead time than anything else. It's probably possible with a couple of years of lead time to make the future seasons at some point. That said, in order to get those seasons later, the show and/or books need to remain popular well after they've aired. Some scifi series accomplish this (Star Trek, Stargate and whatnot), but lots of others are quickly forgotten once there isn't new content anymore.

I'll be satisfied by the fact that by the time S6 comes out I'll have read Leviathon Falls, so will have a full story arc to fall back on. Of course we won't have the full Laconia story arc, but we'll have pretty much the full Sol one. The rest we'll have to imagine. Would like to see Strange Dogs and The Churn turned into standalone Expanse Universe mini-series / Amzn movies before any thought of doing S7-9. Maybe a 3+yr hiatus of the main series, depends on the IP. Considering the time jump in the books there's only a handful of main characters that continue in books 7+. We haven't even seen Duarte in S1-5 and doubtful we well see him in S6 and no Alex either.

Probably a long shot, but has anyone ever explained why Amazon didn’t want to continue the series after the upcoming season? I haven’t seen anything stating that, if there ever was any reason given.
@PetePeppers13 жыл бұрын
I think it's just the way that the subscription streaming business works. They got a lot of good publicity for "saving" the Expanse. It probably brought a lot of new subscribers in. After three seasons that number has to be showing diminishing returns even though it's one of their most streamed titles. I imagine there's a consideration of how many subscribers will drop the service if they end the series compared to how many new ones it will bring in if they continue. All of that is weighed against the cost of producing more seasons.

If season 6 is the final season, they have a lot of questions that need to be answered like: the actual "people/entities" that created the protomalecule - the builders - the people/entities" that destroyed the builders - where are they now - what threat is there now to Earth, Mars and the Belters once these entities find out there's a species/humanity that know about them. What will be the outcome of the fracture relation between Earth, Mars and Belters...those are the big picture questions. Then you have Nagata and Philip, Marco Inaros, Amos and Clarissa. Avaserela and Bobbie, Nagata and Holden and will Holden be the super agent between these entities and humanity..... i haven't read any of the books but these seem to be my commend sense questions.
@georgelionon90503 жыл бұрын
Agree on both major points. Personally I've never been so much invested in the Marco Inaros plot, I found the alien builder/destroyer plot much more interesting. Marco is IMO just some evil dude story, we got so often already. Also yes practice is, in a TV show once you lose the momentum, it will be impossible to get at least most of the actors together again.. this is how life goes. Maybe they can make an animated series.. but that's about it. and yes despite the actor problem the platform problem plays quite a role as well...

Wait a decade after the conclusion of Season 6, and release three 3-episode mini-series (@90 minutes per episode - 270 minutes per book) bridge the 10 year gap with made for TV movies based on stories from Memory's Legion. Halving the 31 year break between Babylon's Ashes and Persepolis Rising, would allow most of the performers to reprise their roles (a ten year break aging them sufficiently to portray themselves as 15 years older.) Assuming of course that they are available and willing to return. Truth be told though, I'd even be happy if they release the final 3 books as a game series. ANYTHING it takes to not allow Babylon's Ashes to mark the end of visualizing the novels.

without being too spoilery, there is a TIME GAP between book 6 and book 7 so a few years of a break between filming the shows could work ok and perhaps even be beneficial. of course, they would have to pre-plan at least a BIT to make sure everyone they needed / wanted was available at some unknown point in the future...

This video made me feel a little less optimistic about the future of adaptations beyond season 6 in ways I hadn't previously pondered. Still though I've got my reread on in anticipation of book 9 with such excitement. It's not often something of this ambition makes its planned landing (or does so in a satisfying way) and I have every bit of faith in Ty and Daniel to make it amazing. I am pleased to say I got a friend into the show and now she wants to read the books. It's such a deserving franchise. And such a rewarding franchise. I hope we live to see an exceptional adaptation of the entire written works. Is it a spoiler to say...... At least Alex is still alive and kicking to at least the end of book 8. Regardless of any real life actions and consequences regarding Cas Anvar, he portrayed Alex well and he was a beloved character to me. His loss in the season 5 finale was jarring and heart-wrenching even though I figured it was about a 90% probability the character would die. Whether reading the novels or watching the series, Alex was easy to love with all of our core four crew. Leviathan Falls is going to be a very deep and enlightening conclusion of The Expanse universe. I can just feel it. I watch/listen to Ty and That Guy (Wes Chatham) and just based on observing Ty's tastes, takes and thoughtfulness, he's not about to let it suck. I haven't had the same opportunity to observe Daniel in such a way but I gather I would hold him in similar high regard, so I just truly believe the final book (& novella)(woot! Didn't know til today!) is going to be genuinely epic (in a taking back the definition of epic - way.)

This is the most complete statement about the future prospects I've seen kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3a1kJ-lnbCSn5o I'm still most excited about the final novel. Been through book 8 so many times in the past couple of years. Can't wait to see how it ends.
