What is The Isle?
The Isle is the current top dog in terms of dinosaur survival games, its one of the biggest ones by far. With a whole host of dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts on its Legacy branch.
The game is going through a total rework with its Evirma Update, an update that will change the whole dynamic of the game.

I don't think the devs understand that dinosaurs have eyes on the side of their head for a reason, its to give them almost a 180 view to survive and with the eating and drinking camera lock already, i don't think the new camera system is needed or even realistic.

Specifically herbivores, carnivores always have their eyes at the front of their heads and tbh they should just add a first person feature where people can choose wether they want the death wish view or the orbital view

If you look at most carnivorous dinosaur skulls (T. rex is the exception), they still have somewhat sideways facing eyes, having close to 180 degree vision. Herbivores, on the other hand, have almost 360 degree vision….

I honestly couldn't care less I just started playing the game so I was never spoiled by some previous system and I gotta say the nerve wracking experience of eating and drinking is awesome. makes the game scary. as it should be your literally playing as an animal and you CAN see side to side you just cant see directly behind you

The camera changes bring more negatives than positives. The positives are few. More realistic, more blind spots, able to look up without the dino's body blocking your view. But the negatives are numerous and very severe. - Alt-attacks become very difficult to use if not impossible. - Animals using tail attacks will become non-viable. - Ptera gameplay will be made impossible. - Animals relying on dodging and quick movements would become non-viable (like dryo). - Skin system becomes a joke because you cannot even see your animal. - What is the point of the quality of animation, skins, and shading if the player cannot even see it. - People with motion sickness might get hit hard by this. I feel it should be server setting IF the devs decide they want to create this new system. Allow community servers to make the choice between the 2 camera options.

The new camera system is probably the only time Ive ever seen the community united and not divided. There are maybe ten people, max, ive seen who are in favor of it, a few who want to wait and see, and an overwhelming majority (myself included) who think its an awful choice for the game.

Some things about the Camera System not mentioned in the Devblog 1. They are playing with the idea of changing the Camera 2. It is a Very early Prototype so don't expect it to look like this much later on 3. What we were shown on stream was NOT the actual system, those were more of guidelines for when someone starts toying with the camera system 4. The Devs said they might make Community servers have the option to enable/disable it Quote from Punch: "Well keep in mind that whilst we do want to make camera changes, it's not necessarily in the direction shown in the concept/mock-up that was just experimented with on that stream. A prime example of a camera adjustment that the game sorely needs would be the Troodon, as right now trying to run around with grass obscuring your vision as a Troodon is pure pain." And "If you're not aware, the camera you saw was a basic concept iteration. Basically a mock-up to be explored by the actual designers/programmers for experimentation, kinda like a visual design document. You'd be surprised how many experimental features we and many other studios go through behind closed doors, it was never said by us anywhere that it would actually be coming out. Not to mention; If we ever were to release something that major of a change, it'd just be a server option, like we've done for every other major system we've released." Just wanted to clear this up.

People will completely ignore this and continue to flame them. I'm trying as an individual to calm people down but it's difficult because the majority does not want to see reason or does not want to get educated on how game dev works. If this continues and the community continues to backlash this way it may be the very community itself that spells the end for this game. We need to remember that the devs are people too and they can only take so much BS for so long. And frankly they have been dealing with it for a long, long time. Veyr undeservingly if I must say so myself.

So it was mentioned that the camera changes are not being implemented. It was later mentioned in Dondi’s stream, I am wondering if Dondi likes to speak his mind but doesn’t always set it in stone. He does have a lot of hours of work almost every day of evaluation for his game with streams. I know a lot of people have been upset, but I am continuing to be patient as no other game offers this kind of unique play style for a dinosaur game, and I still hope for evrima to unveil an experience we can all enjoy.

I have over 4k hours of playing both versions of Legacy and Evrima. its a playstyle I have always enjoyed regardless of what others have said. I also like to help those that are learning the game for the first time and showing them how to play and then let them figure out their own playstyle. The way you play or want something to show up or be implemented in the game I guess doesn't fit your playstyle or your patience is wearing thin for waiting on upcoming updates. But the way I see it If i didn't like this game i wouldn't be commenting or showing interest. But if this game is creating that much stress for you, maybe its time to find something new.

I love how Path of Titans news are just like: One of the biggest updates, 40 balance changes, 3 new dinosaurs, 73 new moded dinos, 7 new maps. Then T.I news are all: "They shown an animation for the rex (haven't posted none in years)" "They released two new concept arts" "They shown a model (not painted)" or this one which is literally "they published the biggest devblog" They'd definitively be better at being politcians and promising things that ain't gonna happen than being developers of a game.

Maybe someone should suggest "dino vision" based on the niche in the thing and what we know where it literally gives direct first person view in the eyes with filters or things to mimic the vision. For example pterosaurs would have relatively clear vision but likely could see above them a bit and also their beak, while something small with large eyes probably has almost 360° vision like a pigeon or rat but has a filter like red green color blindness

im not excited for the new camera system, because the 3rd person gives enough space to actually see the dinosaur and move around correctly. it also gives more stability to the camera because its more far, immagine having the camera THAT close while being a beipi for example, the motion sickness will give me an headache that strong that i'll die by just spawning probably.

I think actually knowing where a player is looking will be incredibly valuable for ambush predators. We've seen how camera locking can help with this while drinking and eating, and while it's not the greatest feeling, it'll ultimately benefit the experience by creating more vulnerabilities. That being said, execution is everything here. If it's too hard to look around as a dino it'll undoubtedly take away from the experience a good bit.

Camera is really shitty idea, more than half of my kills are made by waiting for good ambush when others wont expect it, crocs are exists too, literally making drinking water very scary process. Dilos are in game now with good night visions, making them using disadvantage of poor visions of other dinos, etc, etc, etc. That just... Out of place?

I have 2500h on isle envrima i played since 2 yeara ago and i got to admit game is just going down i tried playing new map but i fell like its too big and has nothing to it no ai spawns and it just looks like shit game was in best state when old utah was there but after that game got fucked i tried playing path of titans and i fell like its like 10 times better rn if ur an og of isle try the game u might be suprised its different and i respect that ofc the fighting is not as amazing but having quests to do chaning skins and just trying different attack combos fell amazing and also the map is good it has many good places and they are memorisable just like center was in old map utah rock... Leave it to the Isle devs to add stupid shit and make dumb changes over actually... oh idk... getting the game remotely close to the Legacy one first. This game doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Hardcore Survival? Arena PvP? Dino Sim? It feels like Arena PvP with tedious survival "Features" and it's willing to throw fun out for those. At this point I really feel like this game needs more content in terms of roster and to focus on the game actually being fun and enjoyable. This dang title is in developmental hell. I really hope it comes out on top because their animation and modelling team are top notch.

First person games give me such horrible migraines to the point of being unplayable, so I suppose I'll be done with the isle. Also, like others said, what's the point of cool skins, nice animations, and tail attacks if you can't even see your dino??

It's sad this game went from Super high potential is such a good depiction of great design. People like Soviet Womble use it as a show of an original take on survival, on potential, on a living world based on the players. To Wait 3+ months for 1 dino that's fun for like... a week, then don't play it for another 2 months and 2-3 weeks because it's either getting bodied by the big 3 or becoming one of the big 3. Why? Because there's no gameplay. The gameplay is. Spawn Eat Go afk Come back Eat Drink Repeat till adult Fight Win till you don't Spawn Repeat. That kind of gameplay cycle isn't driving enough to retain players. It gets boring. Quick. Which is why so many youtubers CAN'T be dedicated solely to this game. There's just not enough content.

The reactions to the camera changes will be interesting. However: Adding too much realism (or attempting to in this case) ruins the fun of games for many, especially if the changes are forced upon the players instead of giving them the option to choose.

It was never confirmed. It was only suggested and used as a beginning prototype to explore the opportunities. Never was it explicitly stated that THE camera system they showed was going to be implemented. They only said that some type of camera change will be happening, they just aren't sure what yet. With this information, you as a developer as well now know what's actually happening. If you did not hear, there is an explosion of drama in response to such changes. The community has already vocally expressed how "horrible of a change it is", when the change was neither confirmed or explicitly stated that what they saw would be what is implemented. They said it themselves multiple times as well but it continues to be ignored, and people are only listening to the parts they want to hear, particularly the parts that incite mob behavior, which effectively is what is happening at the moment.
