Anders Sandberg is James Martin Fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University and his research centres on the ethical and social implications of future technologies and human enhancement.
Slavoj Žižek is a globally renowned philosopher and cultural critic. He is international director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities at the University of London, visiting professor at New York University and a senior researcher at the University of Ljubljana's Department of Philosophy. He is the author of several books, including The Sublime Object of Ideology, The Parallax View, Living in the End Times and Heaven in Disorder.
Natasha Vita-More is a strategic designer, author, speaker and innovator within the scientific and technological framework of human enhancement and life extension. Natasha is currently the Executive Director of Humanity+, Inc., a non-profit educational organisation. Through her work and research, Natasha addresses what it means to be human in an AI-driven world.
Yuval Noah Harari is an Israeli public intellectual, historian and a professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Product Manager for WGSN forecasting and trend service, Nicky Ashwell has been fitted with Britain’s first working bionic hand.
Luke Robert Mason is a media producer and curator of futures. He has interviewed hundreds of the most well-known innovators in the fields of advanced science and emerging technology providing him with a unique perspective on how the future might unfold. As the Host of the FUTURES Podcast he meets the pioneers working to imagine the sorts of developments that might dramatically alter what it means to be human.
David Pearce is co-founder of the World Transhumanist Association, currently rebranded and incorporated as Humanity+, and is a prominent figure within the transhumanism movement. David Pearce maintains a series of websites devoted to transhumanism and what he calls the "hedonistic imperative", which is a moral obligation to work towards the abolition of suffering in all sentient life. His internet manifesto, The Hedonistic Imperative, outlines how pharmacology, genetic engineering, nanotechnology and neurosurgery could converge to eliminate all forms of unpleasant experience from human and non-human life.

If life extension included perfect health and physical condition then not using technology for this purpose would be unethical. What’s the alternative? Suffering, death… what sense does that make? Transhumanism’s purpose is to benefit life.

"The more we learn about what we are, the more options we will discern about what to try to become. Americans have long honored the “self-made man,” but now that we are actually learning enough to be able to remake ourselves into something new, many flinch. Many would apparently rather bumble around with their eyes closed, trusting in tradition, than look around to see what’s about to happen. Yes, it is unnerving; yes, it can be scary. After all, there are entirely new mistakes we are now empowered to make for the first time. But it’s the beginning of a great new adventure for our knowing species. And it’s much more exciting, as well as safer, if we open our eyes." - Daniel C. Dennett

Harari kept referring to political leaders leaving out the world's billionaires and no one asks WHO will be enhanced and what will they do with their enhancements that just possibly, just maybe, will affect the rest of us. The psychological profiles of most billionaires do not suggest in any way a wonderful utopian future. Rather 50 or 500 or 1000 little Stalins competing for goods and power til we all die or inhabit a human zoo. I'm not a "pessimist" I'm a realist and the transhumanists are pure fantasizers. I'm not necessarily opposed to tech enhancement but it requires a species that is virtuous enough to use it in wise ways. Unfortunately that is most emphatically not the human species. The future will be what you are now. So, look around. As for the question of extending life, again WHO will get this technology. Its a wonderful thing if you can provide it to everyone. Think that will happen?

I just came across a relevant quote from Carl Jung: “We rush impetuously into novelty, driven by a mounting sense of insufficiency, dissatisfaction, and restlessness. We no longer live on what we have, but on promises, no longer in the light of the present day, but in the darkness of the future, which, we expect, will at last bring a proper sunrise. We refuse to recognize that everything better is purchased at the price of something worse.” ----Carl Jung

@@jimrichardson1069 It is ironic that, I recently came across with, there is a transhumanist party in the USA and they favor Jung as they favor gnosticism and count Jung a gnostic- a modern gnostic - not sure. They are more like a new-age cult though.. Wierd times to live.

I am disappointed in the amount of money and priority this subject takes over everything else is going on. We might be better off investing in making information toward empathy and listening SO we might get to a point in understanding each other a wi bit. That is totally possible and we have the aggregate- but we don't have the will to understand other s/objects that are in the world - for their own sake.... If we don't have the capacity to listen and understand each other then we don't have the capacity to manage priorities of resources for personal or tribal pursuits at such high rate. By capacity i mean that holistically - to be able to be accountable for the effects and how those effects affect others - we don't have that capacity! Trillions of dollars doesn't buy that capacity.
