This video remembers the two Christmas villages that appeared on the marquee of the G. Fox & Company department store in Hartford, Connecticut. The first village was created in 1959 and the second in 1967.

G.Fox had the best Christmas displays! It was beautiful! Especially seeing all those lights as a kid! G.Fox downtown was such a glamourous store! Stunning and classy.

Enjoyed the video, the former mayor of Hartford Ann Ucello has just died at 100. When I researched her it said she worked here which bought me to your video.

I got to experience the Christmas displays here when I was a little kid in the early 90s. Yes, they had them even then. It had to have been right before they closed because I was 7 in 1993 the year they closed.

I remember my sister taking me to G Foxes. We took the bus from Wapping CT to Hartford for 25 cents. I was alway thrilled to ride the elevator with the elevator operator wearing a uniform.

Dan- You outdid yourself again! What a wonderful video history of a storied display. You kind of wish someone would create a third generation of this...even if G.Fox is no longer there.

Just curious, does anyone know what became of the various Christmas buildings?

Yes, I was wondering that too, it certainly seems like something an employee would have saved?

at about the 4 minute mark there’s a building north of G Fox (not the Youth Center) across Talcott Street but then when the new display was shown soon after that big building isn’t there, just like today it looks like a surface lot. What was that building just north of G Fox. I think I just remembered as I was typing… storage area for G Fox maybe?

Maybe it was the garage? It had a car elevator which we kids thought was the coolest thing on earth.

@@pamelalevy6042 it was right up front along Main Street, not back by the bridge

As I recall, there was a parking garage, just North of G.Fox & on the same side (East) of Main Street as G. Fox.

It would have been nice if a sentence or two was included to describe how they were assembled for the display and then disassembled for storage the rest of the year. How long did it take to set up the display? Where are the parts of the display today.

I would have to ask the Wethersfield company that fabricated the buildings.
