its frustrating working a job for 16 an hour watching videos like this, he's throwing away lifetimes of my income and its nothing to him, the loathing I feel for the disparity has nothing to do with Trainwrecks, but the sheer dark hilarity of it, my toils in life mean absolutely nothing.

Even though its real money it’s essentially fake. The casinos know if Train bets $x/hr that he’ll lose $x/month. So if they want to pay him $2mil/mo to gamble and they expect him to lose $20mil/mo from gambling, they’ll pay him $22mil/mo. They recoup their $20 mil and Train gets to claim that he’s not one of the “fakes” that gambles with fake money. he gambles with “real money”. The reality is if he only bet the minimum every spin and only lose $10mil in a month, he would at the very least lose his sponsorship but probably get sued as well. He’s gambling with fake money just with extra steps.

As a recovering addict, the behavior of constantly describing and awknowledging how severe my addiction is then getting extremely defensive and confrontational when people point out the exact points I’m making is classic. It’s like “if I criticize myself, no one else is allowed to.” If a loved one is doing them, call them out and DO NOT BACK DOWN. Addicts are masters at smooth talking their way out of problems or straight up intimidating or threatening people to make them shut up.
@chickenlittle5095
@chickenlittle5095 Жыл бұрын
The only thing I have to add to that is that no one is harder on an addict than an addict themselves. It is like talking a fat person they need to lose weight. WE KNOW we need to stop but telling us continually isn’t helping 😂
@FrostRare
@FrostRare Жыл бұрын
@@chickenlittle5095 I’d rather have a loved one call me out than watch me kill myself in slow motion. In my addict head, I keep saying “just one more” or “I’m fine” or “I can handle it”. I’ve been “just one more” away from death so many times and was only saved by loved ones telling me “no. Not one more.” I’ve also gone over the edge but gotten second chances that I didn’t deserve. If you are hard on yourself to the point that it hurts, I’m sorry and I hope you get the help you need. You don’t need to do it alone though.

I've never watched Trainwrecks, but to me Train strikes me as a guy who's been hurt a lot, before his streaming career ever began. Whether by 'cool kids' in school, or a not-so-great home life, we don't know, but I do feel sorry for him, especially due to his crippling gambling debt. Where my sympathy falls short, however, is him willingly entering into a contract with companies that are trying to get children to gamble as well.

I worked at a casino incentivising people like this day after day. Being a club host and seeing how easy it was to keep people involved... It was tragically sick. I only lasted 6 months. Thinkin about how often this happens, it hurt knowing how much you could change the world with that money... But it was getting scraped up by people like me. And mostly towards keeping the casino managers well fed. Very. Very well fed. That job may have paid 'well', not really when you consider the trauma it caused, but the collateral damage is immense and unnoticeable to the public eye. Since it worked at a local one, I would regularly see people I knew in my town walking around as if they weren't hurting for money day after day. Telling their wives and kids everything is fine when I knew they just lost millions in one night. It was ridiculous.

I played as an advantage player for a while. It was actually motivating going into the casino knowing that I was taking money from the casino, getting nice rooms and meals and stuff. But I stopped after a while because going into a casino in any capacity drains you. There is not really a rush card counting since you are not making any choices (the rush comes from making a statistically improbable choice and winning) but merely playing like a computer. I then realized that I was simply taking money from the casino, maybe a few thousand in profit in a weekend, which was an insignificant amount to them. Ultimately all that was happening was that the casino took 500k or a million or whatever they took nightly and I took a pittance of that money, which is just other fools' money anyways. The amount is so small that some casinos will let counters play even after identifying them. Gambling is one of the worst and most insidious vices.
@ConnerHall
@ConnerHall Жыл бұрын
@dubbins We were allowed to comp up to 10% of losses. So for a 10k loss that night. We could give back about 1k worth of free play, meals, cigs, hotel stays, golf stuff etc. So many people were overdrawn. I'm really happy you were able to make it out. So many people just die internally. You describe the look perfectly. The computer starts to control your play. People in front of the screens start to turn into zombies and just spin. It made me realize how my parents felt when I would 'waste' hour's of my free time playing video games, but with a much higher cost per minute.

That’s because of the old saying “sex sells”. Now amplify that when your audience is generally young teens, or males who receive no real life female attention. It’s just a weaker version of prostitution, women using their bodies for financial gain from males. It’s pretty sickening to see, as it degrades women and men at the same time, but if you call it out, you are somehow the one being a misogynist? Yes, the people pointing out the issues of a company being a pimp for women to gain money by showing their bodies to men are the problem. In my opinion, these younger people simply weren’t around and didn’t know about cam sites. They don’t see how twitch is quite literally a cam girl site, but worse, as it portrays itself as a platform for younger people and not as a website that allows pornographic content, because it allows them to have mainstream advertisers and gain even more revenue.

So weird, I can definitely relate. I was a former heroin addict for 8 years and he reminds me of myself back then: defensive, but also apathetic about his position and in denial (clean for 3 years thankfully and I can see clearly now in retrospect). It’s just interesting to me how different substances or behaviors “hit the spot” for different people. I love opiates, I love downers. I’ve done meth before but I don’t like staying up all night tweaked out so I never got addicted to it. Also I’m not a gambler, but I was perfectly fine draining my savings on a dope fix. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Moral is don’t ever think you’re above addiction, it can happen to the best of us

Nearly identical to my story except oxy and I'm going on almost... 5 years clean finally. Took subs for first couple of years. I cant stand uppers either. Within the 6-8 years that I was a full blown addicted I'd cry if I knew the real amount of money I wasted on that crap to shoot into my arm. I did recently blow a thousand in Vegas at my brother's wedding and it reminded me of how easy addiction is to fall back into. Wanted to keep putting money in but fortunately was fairly easily able to overcome it. But it was a blast with my brother and dad so I can justify a once in a life Vegas trip for $1000, ya know. I sat next to one dude in high limits room for a minute who was literally spending $1000 PER SPIN of Roulette. When he won, he won big, like $35k but.... I'm just thinking, god, think what that money could do for people who needed it. Need help, or are hungry etc.

This guy has all the classic signs of addiction. He's feeding it to the detriment of his wellbeing. He's protecting his addiction by rationalizing his actions as better than other addicts doing the same stuff. He has an over aggrandized sense of self. He is aware he is miserable and continues the self destruction cycle anyway. This guy needs help, but unless he is willing to do it for himself he won't probably get better. Typically criticism doesn't encourage an addict to get better. Interventions usually just put the armor up. They have to hit rock bottom and reach that breaking point where they wake up. It's usually the only way for someone to even begin to accept help, much less recover. It's awful that entire industries and companies profit off of people's addiction.

Unpopular opinion but Imagine being addicted to gambling, such a lame way to ruin your life. Why should I feel bad for trust fund babies who can't handle their money? I understand drug addicts because they're substances that mess with your body chemicals that could've started at a young age and some drugs could literally kill you if you withdrawal from them but gambling? I feel far less sympathy because of all the money they wasted on something they know they'll lose 99% of the time . I work in the online gambling industry. 1) If you play for an extended period of time, these games are mathematically designed to deplete your account. You win a little, then gradually lose everything. This isn't hidden, go read the terms of conditions. 2) These creators are given dummy accounts by the unregulated casinos. Most of the time they won't be playing with real money, or the casino will give them HUGE kickbacks on losses - to the tune of 90/95%. If this guy was one of the largest streamers on Twitch, bringing huge amounts of traffic/revenue onto their site, his advertised losses will be many multiple times lower than he is claiming.

Hasan,Ethan Klein and Pokemane all support porn, Amouranth and Alinity straight up make porn and the Twitch community either doesn't care or supports this. Why am I brining this seemingly unrelated fact up ? Because porn has been proven to be addictive time and time again yet none of these people factor this in when they go after gambling and gambling streamers with the moral justification of "gambling makes money off of addiction" why is it wrong for Train and XQC to make money off of an addictive service but it isn't wrong for Amouranth or Alinity ? Yep, it's pure chance. Probability is difficult for many people to fully conceptualize, even though they might intellectually know what they learned from school. I think it's just how most people's brains are wired, that we imagine that we would have a higher chance to win if we gamble many times, than if we gamble only a few times or even once. Another thing many people fall prey of is the belief that their luck will change, for example after a streak of bad fortune, they have to get lucky soon, when in reality the current chance does not influence the next one.

The gambling site's headquarters looks very familiar to me. My family used to go on vacation to Curaçao (pronounced kur-a-sao, the little squiggly under the second c makes it sound like an s) and I've passed by that building several times. Scary to know that it is (potentially) the headquarters for a company that encourages people to destroy their lives through a very harsh addiction.

Honestly knowing he’s bipolar and struggling with a gambling addiction makes sense, but is sad, he’ll go through extreme highs and extreme lows (manic periods), where you’re impulsive and spend more money than you have (for most anyway), but instead of his friends recognising he needs help they push him to continue gambling. Gambling is a serious addiction and addicts need help, and whilst they need to admit they need help before rehab properly works, he needs a strong support system around him that cares about his mental well being and mental state instead of encouraging him to gamble during his manic periods. My biological brother (don’t have contact with bio family now, child abuse survivor) was balls DEEP into gambling, he rented a home years ago and stopped paying rent to his landlord (it was £350 a month iirc, Scottish highlands), he stopped paying bills properly, got into huge debt and lost his home. This has happened to him several times, where he gets a new home, eventually stops paying bills and rent, and is made homeless. He can’t stop, in the same way his alcoholism is an addiction, he knows he has 2 addictions but refuses to get any help because he’s “having fun”. Thing is I’ve always known him to have manic depression, like a really deep depression, where he did have people trying to help him but he was balls deep into his addiction that he didn’t care, so he burned friendships, burned family relationships, sent abuse to anyone trying to help him, then months later beg them for money for “bills” which he’d immediately gamble. He also got arrested for theft, fraud, wire/bank fraud, he’s banned from a bank account with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland, it’s a huge issue where he’s spiralled so hard that he’s stolen money/bank cards/peoples jewellery to pay for this addiction. He has some “friends” who encourage this behaviour but they also gamble and are alcoholics, so they’re behaviour is almost as bad, so it’s a cycle of toxic friends encouraging toxic behaviour. My biological brother is 30, he’s a chronic alcoholic with huge debt, arrests, court cases, banned from banks, banned from gambling shops, banned from regular shops, burned relationships, been homeless several times, all because of gambling. Gambling from a young age can easily destroy the rest of your life.

Mania, is not depression and bipolar is not addiction. "he’ll go through extreme highs and extreme lows (manic periods)" This is not what manic episodes are at all. This sounds like someone read the descriptor in the DSMV and misunderstood it. Manic periods are high energy, delusional periods. Quite the *polar* opposite of depression. It comes with a sense of warmth and indestructibility. This is why a depressive episode follows a manic episode. The body builds dopamine until the point of release, which creates the empty, hopeless void of depression.
