I own it for the Xbox and enjoy playing it, but it starts getting repetitive in that it, like the later Wolfenstein: Youngblood, is more of a sandbox or looter shooter...gotta grind and find loot drops to pay for weapon upgrades to be able to successfully tackle new areas of the map. Lot of repeat visits to certain locations... It's funny though...Wolfenstein: The New Order (first of Bethesda & Machinegames' games) references both Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein (done by Raven Software) by using RTCW's General Wilhelm "Death's Head" Straße as one of the villains and Straße himself refers to BJ's exploits from both of Raven Software's Wolfenstein games.

I loved it, never played it but watched and rewatched through full playthroughs more than once. Gameplay is fine, supernatural elements are downright amazing in comparison to the new Wolfenstein's shitty Old Blood zombies. The Da'at Yichud supertech is fine and amazing, but the ass munch devs overcorrected so far they shit the bed. I'm so vitriolic because the Wolfenstein franchise before 2009 never shied away from supernatural elements along with equally messing about with supertech. Zombies with chest arms, Hitler warlock ghosts, powered armor, rocket pistols, supersoldiers (GUTTEN TAG), BJ kicking the Angel of Death's ass in HELL while avoiding a different brand of ghosts, and in one of the RPG spin-offs, he maims a suspiciously familiar looking demon so hard with the spear of destiny, it promises to always fight his descendants in effect becoming the Cyberdemon. Continuity, interconnection, badassness. Etc... And the devs shit all over that going '*nuh uh, supertech only, pbbbt*' along with actual words at the Eurogamer Expo with some ass going and I'm quoting him. "*We try not to include that game as part of our story. Personally, I think that Activision did a crap job.*" Not cool. :

What I like about wolfenstein (2009) was the enemies recognition of the player or B.J. using certain weapons when using the sci-fi weapons they automatically call out what your using to their comrades another great feature is the dying mechanics for the enemies like if you hit a key area of an enemies body they react to it by looking at it or putting their hands on it

It may partially be a rights issue. This was made by Ravensoft which is now under Activision, right? But Bethesda owns the rights to Wolfenstein currently? And is under Microsoft. Also, soundtrack issues or something, perhaps. If there's any licensed music or anything, it's possible the composer or whatever only licensed it to them for a few years. I imagine if Microsoft did buy/merge with Activision, all potential issues here would pretty much be solved. Even if it is a soundtrack issue or something, M$ can just through some $ at it and the problem goes away. And they could maybe break Ravensoft out of the COD dungeon, and let them make a sequel to this. Perhaps it could actually be a sequel to both this and the newer game, if they wanted. Mostly just depends on if Microsoft wanted to let any of the COD devs do anything else... and maybe shuffle 343i over to COD since Halo 4 was basically Halo COD anyway lmao. But honestly, I don't think it's worth letting M$ do that. Way too much anti-consumer stuff and anti-competition/monopoly type stuff would happen.
@GodOfOrphans
@GodOfOrphans 11 ай бұрын
@@Paradox-es3bl My gut tells me that it's not a rights issue. It's possible given what a collosal anti-consumer clusterf*** Licensing etc. is but with the amount of bile I've heard the new devs have for this game I honestly suspect it's something much much pettier. It's not without precedent for games to be delisted for pure pettiness or because of perceived poor quality by newer devs either

The game got meh reviews and only sold 100k its first month and was forgotten about and basically killed the franchise for 4 years and was given to new people. As for the rights issues it was dev'd by raven and published by activision BUT id software was the one who "loaned" the IP out to both and 2 months before it even released they got bought by zenimax themselves. I think its kinda funny when people say its bethesda who doesnt want you to play it yet as of right now... microsoft owns all of these companies. They own raven, activision, bethesda, zenimax, id... if they wanted to they could easily toss it up on gamepass alongside the others... fuck they could do something w/ RTCW too. As for "the new devs hate the game" well not enough to completely ignore it apparently seeing as caroline was brought back by them. I dunno about you but if i hate something enough to "have an agenda against" it i dont want anything to do with it. Period. Erase it from my sight and mind. Not bring a piece of it with me. It may be considered some cult classic title now but back then it was considered a massive let down and inferior to RTCW and it did not receive good reviews nor did it sell even remotely well. @@GodOfOrphans

RtCW was the best Wolfenstein hands down. It had actually everything. Paranormal, sci-fi while still being sort of realistic for the most part. It had full on battles, sneaking, full stealth. Secrets, in-game lore, little details. For a 2001 (I think?) game it was simply mindblowing. It had everything and more. And it still holds up to this day in gameplay whereas so many nostalgic games fall apart or are straight boring/basic.

RtCW really has a special place in my heart. I used to sit next to my dad and watch him play RtCW and Call of Duty 1: United Offensive when I was probably 8 or 9. Then I started playing them shortly after. I still play it a couple times a year just to scratch that sweet sweet nostalgia itch. The gameplay really does stand the test of time just like all great games do. The paranormal element used to really spook me as a kid, and Blazkowicz was just an enthralling action hero. I really like the new order as well, and think they may have even done a better job making BJB an ultra badass.

The only newer Wolfenstein game that has anything close to supernatural elements is The Old Blood, and that sequence is literally like 10 or 15 minutes before the game ends which sucks. Honestly this game actually took a little bit of knowledge of Atlantis and the occult associated with it and that's pretty cool in itself

For me it was one of the most fun FPS games Ive ever played. The credit goes to awesome weapons and gore- even basic weapons have incredible punch to them, iron sight is flawless as well as sound design. And if you upgrade for example KAR98, holy shit… your bullets just make nazi’s legs, arms, faces, heads disapear!!! You were talking about low enemy variety- for a 2009 shooter it was good. You had the supersoldiers, bald nazi wizards, invisible mutant apes, dominatrix elite guards and more. Also, criticizing that hub area is always crowded with enemies is stupid to me. Youre in the Third Reich, in a town where nazis run secret operations, of course there are alot of wehrmacht/ss soldiers. The hub is also very dynamic and the enemy placement and enemy types change as you progress which is very cool. The game has subpar story, bossfights and music. Everything else isnt just good, its great.

I stopped playing once it became clear there was a hub. It just stops the game in its tracks. That sense of journey and momentum disappears and the stakes no longer feel as high as they should be
@pRopaaNS
@pRopaaNS Жыл бұрын
It's not "hub". The game is open world. You have to walk with your feet to get to places in city, which aids to the game's atmopshere and imersion.

the Wolfenstein franchise actually spans 40 years, from the original Castel Wolfenstein (which was in no way shape or form an FPS) back in the early 80's to Wolfenstein: Youngblood in 2019

I remember talking to one of the people behind the project. The reason why the game is delisted is because of Zenimax suing Activision for sales of Wolfenstein 2009. Activision sold the rights of Wolfenstein to them two months before Wolf 2009 was released, but Zenimax wanted the sales of Wolf 2009. That meant Activision wouldn't make any money out of it, so Activision fought through the lawsuit. The lawsuit ended with Acitivision owning the rights to Wolf 2009, but after The New Order releases, they weren't allowed to sell the game anymore.

That star quest marker looks identical to the one used on the radar in the very first couple of Call of Duty games, I guess I never noticed that was a common thing.

Wasn't this game hidden because it's a huge copyright clusterfuck involving a id Software license before it got bought by Bethesda, developed by Raven which got bought by Activision which were also the publishers of this? I think the only way for this game to see the light again would be if the Microsoft-Activision deal goes through.

I loved this game... I love the weapons / customization. The schematics they showed... It was a perfect next step after my playthrough of Castle Wolfenstein. IDK if we saw Blasko in RTCW... But maybe he looks similar to that Blasko..? I also loved these games, esp RTCW BC they reminded me so much of the Medal Of Honor games. It was like playing (back then at least) MOH + Resident Evil... And then this came out. And though getting money for upgrades seemed difficult at times, and I didn't really ever use the Rune system...I still loved it. And I loved the experimental weapons (reminded me of "He'll Boy" [YT Comment Friendly Term Or Else They'd Delete It] for some reason reason). And I loved seeing how WPN s like the STG-44 and Bazooka could go from standard issue to Doom levels of insane (like a magazine tip loading clip for the bazooka if I remember correctly). Then again this game kinda did remind me a tad bit of Doom...Def more so than RTCW... I thought it was a good game...
