Ohio Shaves, I owe you a debt of gratitude. As I mentioned in another post, I’ve been shaving for almost 50 years. I never go without shaving for five days because my skin gets irritated when I shave with a cartridge. Due to circumstances, I didn’t shave for 10 days until today when I used a 6S with a feather blade at your recommendation. I started out on plate 1 not knowing what I was getting into. I almost laughed out loud when the whiskers just started flying off. It took a few passes, but I had zero nicks, the beard completely off my face, my neck, and the old man hair I’m saddled with under my nose and to be blunt, ears. What a magnificent product. I did use the art of shaving preshave oil, shaving cream and post shave balm. I don’t use a brush because of allergies. I’m going to give it a day to see how my skin does and then go back in with a number one and maybe progress up, but even number one is so effective, I may just stay there. Plus, I’m still on the learning curve.

I use the plates to adapt to different bladed so that I get a more consistent feel and result from it. Sharper blades get a lower number plate, milder blades get a higher number. I mostly only use 2, 3 and 4 for this.

I'm one with pretty sensitive skin on my neck and most of the time I'm using a T2. I'm discovering that if I use Accuthrive med preps, Kai, feather....I'm getting my best shaves. I start on setting 5 then dial back to 2 or 3 on the second pass. I'm considering a 3 piece razor because you speak so highly of Timeless, Yates, and Henson.....but everybody is different. I just had a shave yesterday with the 6S using a second-use Feather blade (after not shaving for three days), and it came out great. I've really improved as a wet shaver in the short time I've been in this -- two years -- and I'm glad I've narrowed down my blade and razor selections after so much testing. I, myself, started out on a 6C by recommendations and went to a 6S later, too...and I even got the 6S replated (I couldn't do the matte finish), and now I prefer the added weight of the 6S versus the 6C. Just effortless to let the razor work its magic.

“What blade I like to use?” Due to all the tips-n-tricks I’ve taken away from this channel… it doesn’t seem to matter what blade I use. They all work well…. As long as my technique is good😅 My daughter got me a sample pack from Amazon (as Dave recommended) last Christmas and I just finished them. Not a problem with any of them. I only use a blade 2 to 3 times before I start to feel tugging. If I feel tugging during a shave I switch out the blade.

I also love the knurling handle because no matter what soap or cream I have on my hand, it is not slipping. I also use Thayers after my cold-water rinse of my face before adding AS and Balm. I recently came across a deal on a 6s and almost bought it, but after a bit of research, the majority of reviews I watched and read preferred the shave and smoothness of the 6c to the 6s. What’s your thoughts Dave? Also, my best shave is with the 5 plate using Dorco blades. Have you ever tried them?

Resharpening is a difficult task. After learning to get a perfect shave with DE razor, it could be the next level of a hobby, but it will never make sense in the economy. But you dont need to throw a blade away after second use just because it's cheap. Some blades are not good enough to finish one pass. Some, like my current favorite BIC, are still good after 10th shave.
@10floz30minutes4 ай бұрын
Use the blade for as many shaves as each shave is still satisfactory for you. I have used single Feather Hi-Stainless for about 11 or 12, and then they lose efficiency. But you use and choose what you find best.

BIC blades in 6c are very friendly to my face. 10th shave on same blade feels almost like first. Only then it starts degrading slowly. Also tried Astra (both indian and teroristian), Minora, some other, but let's say they require skills I don't have yet ;)

I think the 6S is a good gateway razor for beginners or those not looking too deep-dive into wet shaving. Trust me, there are way more razors out there that are better than the 6S, especially if you're looking for something with more blade feel and efficiency. Don't get me started on AC blade SE razors.

I only have the EH plate for now. It would be great to have all of yates plates and do a shave off. Great suggestion

Buy a dovo primo 2. and see if you like like it for 50$ it feels premium and medium aggression. It includes 10 dovo german blades. If you like de89 then you will like dovo primo

Why not do an Italian mounting? Put the soap in tuft of the brush and then the go to mount in face 😉👍🏻

In Lithuania I got green for about 4€. But that cooling effect when applied... meh. Some might like it, but for me it feels like irritation. Not a problem by itself, but it masks the actual irritation feedback in case of error of a beginner. After stocking arko sticks for 1€ during vacation in Turkey, I'm not going back to proraso

For my skin the Merkur 34c is not good because my skin is as thick as a Rhino 😂 so my skin needs an aggressive to shave

These types of razors clog too much. A straight razor, one can just wipe on a towel.
