This is what happens when people try to insert fake drama into something that doesn't really need it to be interesting. That's why I hate all reality tv since like the year 2000. This also shows you how unprofessional Polaris and MediaMaker are out in the real world, I guess Disney didn't get what they bargained for.

From what I've read and heard about this, they cannot place the blame solely on Mattie's head. Believe it or not, these people clearly knew what they were doing when they hired him, and the only reason it didn't continue is because the devs didn't allow it. Of course all of the production crew members are going to apologize after the fact and everyone is going to shift the blame on him, it's damage control. However, the fact is that everyone on the production side saw what was happening and did nothing. If the devs hadn't fought back, there would be no apologies, just business as usual. These aren't benevolent companies that are really concerned about human welfare, they were all about the money. Yes, Mattie was a jerk, but I refuse to believe that he just came out of left field and none of these people knew what was going to happen ot that they would have stopped it of their own volition.

i actually worked at a wedding with two caterers. I work at a catering hall and one really big jewish wedding had an outside caterer come in. It was a complete nightmare. The kitchen was crowded and and had too much equipment. I couldn't breathe and they had no cohesion. 2nd worst working experience with my company.

The really sad thing is, if they wanted some natural drama, they should have just peeled off maybe 75 or 100k of that budget to give to the winning team. Like they said, most game jams aren't really competitive, but I doubt the game devs would have been that against possibly making several thousand bucks each from it. And the tension would have been automatically turned-up a bit because of the prize. Not that I would particularly want to see that (I would love to see the more documentary route, like Ian and Pat), but it is so clear and easy to understand from a reality TV perspective. That is why all these reality shows always give a big prize. A set of mountain dew lawn chairs that no one would even wan to make space for in their trunk just doesn't get the same reaction.

You cant do a real housewives style show with game developers. they are generally solution based people, not problem based people. They arent the type to focus and rehash a problem and over again, especially for ratings. They are about about fixing it, and moving forward.

Most Gamers may seem weird to other people that don't understand. From my experience of being a gamer, a lot of people who play videos games are actually really nice and intelligent beings who knows what they are talking about. Everyone who has choose video games as their profession ultimately had better lives because they are doing what they love to do. If they're are any chances to truly separate our differences in culture, religion, race, nation, and ideologies in order to unite the world, then the gaming industry has already demonstrated this possibility by uniting everyone who has a common interest.

Also, how funny is it that they were pushing Mt Dew so hard... I'll freely admit that I enjoy Mt Dew SOMETIMES, but never in my life would I drink it on a constant basis. And not letting devs drink coffee? During a game jam? Mt Dew does NOT HAVE this LIMITLESS source of caffeine! Isn't that kind of the joke about 4chan users? That they chug Dew and have Cheeto dust on their fingers?

I think it would have worked as reality show but not full on have the reality just be a competition to make the best game show them planning and all that. That’s it want to shoot a let’s play do it towards the end with each youtuber being the judge. Put them only on the teams to ask questions other people might have so it’s a mix of reality and documentary

Boy, who would have thought that having Markiplier and PewDiePie as part of actual game making show would be a bad idea? Great job Polaris. Maybe keep your childish figureheads out of this shit and let the actual developers work. Also, fuck the fact that they're trying to insert drama into it. It's a game jam; people who enjoy streams of people like Notch doing Ludum Dare jams are proof that people enjoy watching the work and not the competitive nature.

Seems like this Game_Jam thing is the american counterpart to the european Demoscene - just with games rather than demonstations, show-offs, occasionally a game or two and just random computer/videogame/electronics related stuffs. From experience I can say - it's nothing that's gonna work as a TV format - 2-3 minute long news reports, sure, maybe 10 minute mini-documentaries - but never a multi episode 45+ minute format. Even getting major sponsors on board is quite dangerous (but has worked in a few cases in the past). Pretty much an idea doomed from the start - even without all this reality show crap and forced branding.

Man I want in on a Game Jam. I'm a writer, which means I come up with weird ideas. Can anyone hook me up with an indie team to pitch my concept too?

Not without a Programmer, an artist, a computer graphics artist to translate what they see on paper, and I'm sure many other things, yet the games they come up with have no Story, because they don't see a point.
@DeyaViews
@DeyaViews 8 жыл бұрын
+Sean Kiesser That's because games that start from a story have less ability to hook players, and thereby lower appeal and chances of selling well, than games that start from a gameplay angle. There are games that do story very well, but those games typically also have engaging gameplay. That's why you have designers working on games rather than scriptwriters, though the latter are typically employed for bigger budget titles (small teams typically don't have the budget for that). The only real exceptions to this are visual novels.

So interestingly enough, JonTron appears to have taken the original idea of this to heart and just today uploaded kind of his own take on this idea but without the problems with his video "Head to Head Game Jam" (that is actually what made me think about this). It really seems like that is what this competition should have been: a few comedic challenges and a humorous tone, but serious and straight-forward when it comes to the actual jam. Check out his video if you think this could have been a good idea but it was destroyed by douchery.

To be fair, that's a common trapping. They don't call it "reality television", reality TV is something that the newspapers, news shows and tabloids came up with. Very often they use the fancier term of "documentary television". From what I undrestand of the story, it started out a lot like a documentary film about a game jam. Then the one public relations asshole came (Mark something, I blank on his name every time) and that's when the show started to become a goofy, fake, stereotypical reality TV show.

You didn't need to say to the world he's a consultant for pepsi that does not work directly for the company. Poor game developers that had to put up with this! I am sure getting fired for doing exactly what you were hired to do then being named pubically along with your prior title in the company is worse.
