I got one of the Power Ranger packs as a kid for Christmas back in 1995 or so. I wanted a Game Boy (ideally one of those snazzy ice blue Pocket units), but my grandmother (bless her) sent one of these. I ended up playing it a lot because I didn't have anything else. When I moved, it was left behind; when I came back to my old house years later, I found the base unit just laying in the dirt under a tree, rusted out and sun-bleached; I sure didn't leave it there. I took it home and buried it in the backyard. There's some strong symbolism there, I'm sure.

The fact that our lunches were packed with sugar actually made me really happy! LOL Seriously though, I think about old lunches sometimes and miss the hell out of them! Nowadays (at the public schools where I live) they don't actually do warm cooked-on-site meals anymore, and instead do a "healthier" meal where everything is pre-packed and under strict nutritional guidelines. Heck, you can't even bring your own lunch, unless you have strict medical or religious reasons, because schools are afraid of legal ramifications of kids who might share food and accidentally give it to someone who might be allergic or can't have it for some reason! I mean, it makes sense but it's definitely a big difference from when I went to school and kinda takes the fun away from lunchtime imo.

This brings back memories! I got the Power Rangers set as part of a package from an uncle in America when I was like 5, I think. Living in a post-Eastern Bloc country, with my parents not really having money for luxuries like proper consoles, it was fun and I remember playing the heck out of it. Although I remember the games being rather difficult and also getting boring after a while. Exactly as expected, I guess. Not much later, we got a PC, and PC gaming came with it, and it was obviously a huge step up. I didn't get into the world of consoles, either home or handheld, until several generations of hardware later, though.

There was and LCD Tank game I got a long time ago. It was very small, about half the size of that gameboyish looking thing. The case was literally shaped like a tank, and it was actually a REALLY good LCD game. It was like a LCD version of the original Legend of Zelda, but you drove a tank instead. It was open world that allowed you to travel in any direction, as long as it was up down left or right. I memorized how to get to all the bosses, find all the power ups as well. It was a pretty cool game for an LCD game. It showed what LCD games could be honestly if companies were not lazy with the concept. I really wish I could remember it's name, nor have I found any photos online of a similar LCD game, let alone youtube videos. Seems it will go down as a forgotten game, despite actually being a good LCD game. I'm pretty sure it's because it came out really late in the LCD game world, I got it around the time I owned a Nintendo 64.

As somebody just barely old enough to have seen the tail end of the LCD handheld era as a young child, and who never owned one, I always felt slightly jealous when I encountered other kids with them, in spite of having a Game Boy and a Genesis. This faded as I grew older and realized what crap they actually were, but I guess on some deep, insignificant level, it never entirely left me since I still remember those feelings to this day.

An interesting LCD handheld I have gotten as a kid was one that had a similar form factor to Game Boy. I remember having a LCD cartridge handheld gaming .... thing. I say cartridge loosely because, while it marketed itself as being a 6 in 1 game console, the "cartridges" were all wired with the exact same LCD segments, just all 6 having a different theme. So the actual game was contained on the main unit itself which allowed you to take one cartridge out and swap it for another while the machine was still on without any side effects at all, except losing a life if you didn't pause between swaps. So I'd be less inclined to call them cartridges and more themed screens. I had long since gotten rid of it before 2000 rolled around though.
