Thanks for having me guys! I know I appear pissy or something, but this was a mix of being nervous (im a small time streamer and therapist...so clearly this is more views than anything I have ever done haha) and having a resting bitch/therapist face (we are trained to not show emotional reactions to ridiculous stuff). There’s a lot more to the idea of adopting responsibilities to help your depression then you guys discussed. It’s not just about being so busy that you don’t have time to be depressed. Let’s say you want to be a pilot. You attend flight school and in doing so you take responsibility for your education. You do whatever it is you have to do to earn your commercial license and start working as a pilot. Soon there are a lot of people in your life who have come to depend on you and your skill set. Not only have you committed time to developing a valuable skill, but the fact that others have come to view you as important has contributed to a greater sense of self worth. You’ve also started a laundry list of personal accomplishments that you can look to when you start to feel down on yourself. You get to travel the world and experience new things. You’re adoption of responsibility has earned you admiration from your peers.
@PhonesHQ3 жыл бұрын
Peterson also specifically suggests that, rather then getting behind the stick of a commercial airline, you begin somewhere small. The example he provided was one of his clinical patients who told Peterson about how he was absolutely rocked with grief following the recent death of his father. Peterson told him that, whilst he should take time to grieve appropriately, the first thing he should do is try and pull himself together enough to help plan his father’s funeral. There were other member’s of his family who were in desperate need of strength right now.
@PhonesHQ3 жыл бұрын
If he could find the strength he needed to honor his father by helping his family, he could surely overcome his own grief in time. Comforted in the knowledge that his father would be proud of how he acted.

I was on Prozac for a year and a half. It made me way more stable for that time so it worked I guess

SSRI’s have a bad rep for a multitude of reasons. If you’re struggling to live your life day to day, don’t rule out anything because someone on KZbin told you they had a bad experience. SSRI’s saved my life, not an expression, but that’s my subjective experience. My point being, if you deal with mental health issues just keep an open mind about everything and always do your own research.

@@DesertStrom16 Ditto. They for sure don't work for everyone, but for me they massively reduced the suicidal urges and sleep interrupting panic attacks.
