Next up on my solo motorcycle travels in Iraq: biking to the meeting point of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers-the supposed Garden of Eden, AKA Adam's Tree-and boating out into the famous Mesopotamian Marshes near Basra.

Hi Alex, Great video i read a book a few years ago cannot remember the title, about a British Nurse that met an Iraqi in Birmingham England who was studying at university then married and move to Iraq in the 1960 it was quite enlightening to learn that Iraq second language in the 60s was English and that there was a lot of English radios stations I imagine form colonial Britain? Not withstanding this it was quite obvious that the people of Iraq are like all all genuine people kind generous and welcoming. ❤ Love your work ❤

I Speak North American English and yes I agree with you that Alex speaks with English, lacking the normal heavy accents found in most English. However, as a native Anglophone. I do detect a very slight accent that tells me she is not Canadian or US raised. I suspect that she has been blessed to have been brought up in an International environment and possibly went to a US or Canadian school. I am a Dual UK Canadian Citizen, raised in the US, now back in Canada. Fluent in Spanish and not French! Almost as complex and mixed up!

Really appreciate your video on Basra and the marsh wetland of Chibayishi. Yes, the water seem to be low. You were there during a cold period. Southern Iraq is a desert. The Euphrates and Tigre Rivers get their water from the melted snow of Turkey, Iran, and Caucuses. If the water level looks low it is probably due to the time of the year, and nothing to do with anything else. Saddam's government may be build canals but that was probably for irrigation purposes, to get water to farms or communities. Martyrs Monument is at same level as the reed plants. If the water level came up higher then Martyrs Monument would be underwater. The local people would not build their monument to dead soldiers underwater. That would not be respectful. Yes? The marshes are very close to the Iran-Iraq border. The Monument to Martyrs is for local men who fought for Iraq against Iran. They were not killed by the evil Saddam. They died fighting for their country Iraq. Sometimes Americans get caught up with government propaganda and we want to vilify Saddam for everything.

Not just climate change caused the dryness, but actually, Turkey, Iraq's bad and jealous neighbors, cut off the Tigris and Euphrates on Iraq by building massive dams. Anyways, welcome to Iraq, and I hope you'll come back again in the future as Iraq has only now started growing with this current government that was formed only 5 months ago.

What kind of growth has this government achieved? Is the economy better or is the pasport stronger than before?
@sunguy1394
@sunguy1394 Жыл бұрын
@@here.a7med Ended corruption, continued lagging projects, and provided employment to millions plus repairing streets and cornices, activating agriculture and manufacturing, social security, tourism, enhancing security and safety. About the passport, the foreign minister is Kurdish and is a separatist, so he's messing up on purpose to hurt Iraq and Iraqi passports by randomly giving diplomatic passports to thousands of people thus our passport is lagging but this will be fixed when the upcoming mass sacking of ministers happen. When you activate agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, the economy will improve automatically. This government is 6 months old only, I expect Iraq's gdp to signal high-ranking in 2024. This government also invested in Iraq's massive gas reserves, which need 2 years to start exporting, plus the oil price is high and Iraq is 2nd biggest exporter of oil in OPEC so 2024 is going to be great for Iraq.

"Did you know that the tale of Adam and Eve, familiar to many, actually finds its roots in ancient Sumerian mythology? It was the gods Innana and Enki who were the precursors to these revered figures. The tale was crafted by the Sumerians, who lived in the city of Urr, situated near the convergence of two powerful rivers. It was the majesty of this setting, where the rivers intertwined and merged into one, that served as the perfect inspiration for this epic saga, reminding us of the magnificence of nature and its ability to inspire great human stories.
