My Gardening Realities

My Roma Tomato plants got discolored leaves and 4 days later I had to rip the plants out. Three months of effort gone. Disappointing and frustrating. You can see me kinda grinning but I'm literally sweating at the same time. Just trying to laugh it off.
Time to reset and try something else.

I had that blossom end rot on some of my Roma tomatoes. There was none on my Early Girls. Recently, there was an extremely high humidity and temp spell here in Central Ohio. I think I caught the problem early and cut off the 4 tomatoes affected, all on one plant. Then I sprayed the plants with Cal-Mag. What I was told is that the temp/humidity being so high prevents plant transpiration so calcium isn't up taken from the soil. That's why I tried the spray of Cal-Mag. I'll save the video and try to post a follow-up.

I'm in my third year of attempting garlic. I've been told it's the easiest thing to grow and I can't get decent sized bulbs to save my life. This is what gardening is like, constant learning, constant experimenting. Blossom end rot usually comes from too much water, whether it's your own water habits or too much rain.

I feel for you brother. Between blossom end rot and squirrels, I have lost around 70 tomatoes. I grow my tomatoes in 20 gallon bags and they are more susceptible to BER since the soil dries out quicker. I treat my plants by mixing lime in a 5gal bucket and give each plant around 32oz of mixture. As far as the squirrels, I am enclosing my tomatoes with a garden netting so I hope that will detour them.

@@bradk7310 I wish you luck on the battle with the squirrels. Most of my vegetables are in enclosed raised beds. That helped with the squirrels but took a lot of trial and error to figure out all the ways they were getting in the enclosures. But now with the plants getting diseases and dying off. Stay positive and things will turn around.
