It seems that Garfield was not based on any cat that its creator personally owned as Jim Davis' ex-wife was allergic to cats. However there are a number of famous cats on the internet that bear not only a physical resemblance to Garfield but also embody his rascally nature. It was nice to see a heartwarming moment between Jon and Garfield for a change, even if it was a setup for a joke. As fascinating as I've found the horror fanworks of the past few years, I was getting a bit tired of everyone pretending that Garfield is some physical representation of Jon's depression and insecurities. Let's go back to Garfield being a jerk with a heart of gold for a bit.

i love that they had jon and garfield meet at an Italian restaurant, not only because garfield’s favorite food is lasagna, but because garfield was canonically born in an Italian restaurant and lived there with his family but the humans kicked him out when he started eating too much of their food also chris pratt and awkwafina are in pretty much every animated movie now. i don’t really mind as long as they can successfully capture their characters. i’m really hoping garfield’s done justice here also also garfield’s father has never been shown in the original jim davis comics (as far as i know) so if this really is his dad ig this is his canon design? (his mom is a thin pale yellow cat with no patterns, if anyone’s wondering)

At least in SCOOB! they brought back Frank Walker to play Scooby. Why couldn’t they do that for Garfield? I’m not throwing shade or anything, I think Chris Pratt is a solid enough actor.
