Connor MacLeod practically gave the keys to the Highlander franchise to his cousin Duncan MacLeod. The television series proved to be superior to the 1985 movie and sequels that followed it.
@lillianpandola99633 жыл бұрын
You mean superior to The Highlander movie sequels 1986 Highlander is the nerve center to the Series and HL1 Is up par to the series, 2 3 4 and 5 are inferior so HL 1 and the Series are the best.

I definitely wouldn't go that far. So many villains and scenarios on the show were cartoonish and ridiculous.
@paulseeth79388 жыл бұрын
Connor MacLeod really showed what a badass fighter he is, with the way he knocked MacLeod out with one hit.. and then when he fought Slan, (in my opinion) he allowed himself to get knocked around by Slan's heavy blows in order to mislead him into thinking he had a strength advantage and thus Slan wore himself out quickly trying to finish the fight.. but that hidden projectile saved him, almost. Also, when Tessa says "you don't have to go either" at 35:26, Connor's accent and delivery really shines through when he says in response "we don't have a choice".. you can hear the regret/'wished it could be so' tone, but also the resignation and authority in his voice.
@jamesaritchie17 жыл бұрын
It's a TV show. There's nothing t it other than what's in the script. The characters don't have any thoughts, any motives, or anything else. Theyt aren't real.
@paulseeth79387 жыл бұрын
I'm aware of that, but I'm a fan of the show and the characters, so forgive the language I use when describing them as though they are actual people.. it just facilitates communicating my ideas about the characters.. it also eliminates any additional wordage to cumbersomely maintain the factof them not being real.

Yeah I agree. I always wondered how they knew. Until I saw future episodes when they explained it then. I wondered why Duncan kept Richie around.
@bradydavis57915 жыл бұрын
This is true, but also funny as the creators had zero intentions of making Richie immortal. Lol
@lisathomasson37054 жыл бұрын
yes indeed. several other episodes hint to it too...the episode directly following this one where Richie thinks he's found his birth father, Duncan never believed he was Richie's father, for good reason, as immortals are always orphans...and another episode where Richie is talking to that one immortal guy who's an artist, about what it's like being immortal and he asks him, what if you are immortal? very cool to rewatch them and pick up on those hints...
@ChicagoMel234 жыл бұрын
Brady Davis They kept changing it. I heard one script had him die in the pilot then he wasn’t going to be immortal. Adrian played Duncan as knowing Richie was pre immortal but didn’t tell Stan or Alexandra fearing it would change how they dealt with the character. In season 1 only Revenge is Sweet has a real hint when Richie can’t sneak up on Mac. I like how Eye of the Beholder’s sword scene played too though. By s2 they’d decided to do it which is why Studies in Light has a huge hint.

Now that I've watched the entire series in the last few weeks (minus a few choice episodes) - a lot of what Duncan and Connor talk about really snaps into place and makes sense. So much series time goes by before some of it is referred to again, which makes it seem out of place in those later episodes, but really they did good back-search into the previous episodes and found tidbits and elements to bring back up and explore more deeply. Well done.

If you're reading this and thinking of watching or not watching the series on KZbin or wherever: You gotta understand this is not a great indicator of how you'll probably like it, and here's why, in a nutshell: This show had a weird period at the beginning where they were trying to do two things that the movie did, which was mixing swashbuckling Euro-romance charm with an eighties MTV video (aggressively hammy) vibe. They tried to mix in elements of a procedural also in the first season especially. It was just all over the place. The swashbuckling Euro-charm played throughout the entire series, to varying degrees of success, so if you just hate that vibe, okay, but in seasons 3-5 they dropped a lot of the campy MTV stuff, kicked up the effects, the swordplay, and more importantly the kind of acting less likely to grate on you. At least try to get to the back end of the first season to see if it grows on you a bit. I don't think Adrian Paul consistently nails MacLeod as an interesting lead who makes sense until at least Darius/Fitz/Dawson/Amanda are all in the picture of his life. He's a romantic, liberal softy one minute and a cynical, moody, dead-eyed hardass the next minute when the show starts. And it doesn't seem like a purposeful kind of all-over-the-place, so much as the show being all over the place. Later on, when you see different sides to MacLeod, when he acts differently, it makes a lot more sense and Paul has comfortably established an identifiable personality in there by the time Methos and Joe are regulars. And seeing the three of them acting together is...no offense to any of the other actors but...for me, that's the core of the series when I look back on it.

As an avid HIGHLANDER fan,I totally enjoyed the Highlander movies,and the series. However,in the Highlander End Game movie,it made all the other previous movies bogus.Why? Because in the original movie,the final gathering was in a far away land,which ended up being in the United States and New York City.And the last 2 combattants were Christopher Lambert and Clancy Brown,the Kurgen. For the gathering to take place,all the remaining immortals would have an irresisable urge to go there and battle for the Prize.At that time,there were only 5 left and Duncan was not there,so,he was already dead. For those who don't know, in End Game, Connor offers up his life(head) to Duncan so with his lifeforces from the immortals he had killed,combined with Duncans,gave Duncan the edge to win the final battle,and the PRIZE. However,if memory serves,the final battles were in France. Anyway,there it is.

At least Duncan, Faith, and Methos were still alive at the end of Highlander: Endgame. Every iteration of Highlander retconned the version that came before it. Endgame wasn't nearly as bad as Highlander 2 or 5 in that respect. They should revive the franchise with new blood. Get some decent young actors who can play the parts for 10~20 years.

Anyone else ever hoped the Adrian Paul would have been cast as James Bond?
@RyanMinaker9 жыл бұрын
He reminds me of Sean Connery a lot
@jimenezap097 жыл бұрын
Yep! I'm one of them. Back in the 90s when this was first shown on tv, I already recognized that he look like Sean Connery and can be the New James Bond. What a waste, the Broccoli family didn't notice him.

Sean Connery was his role model growing up as well. Said he wanted to have a hairy chest like him LOL.

I had hoped Connor was gonna show up at least a few more times throughout the season, but I get it. This episode was kind of the "passing of the torch" of Connor to Duncan. The last lines between Tessa and Duncan totally summed up Duncan and Connor's relationship. "You didn't say goodbye?" "We never do." Basically acknowledging that they know they'll run into each other again at some point.

And we never saw Christopher appear again for the rest of the series and he easily could have since for one half of each I think, they filmed in France and with his main residence being in Switzerland. Of course at the time he didn't like appearing on TV. This is the only time Christopher appeared for many years on American TV.

Also the character of Tessa repressed and oppressed more than she freed him. She held him back. Her love was sweet and deadly. Her Love grew monstrous. He couldn't be the monster that he needed to be to evolve. His monster grew elegance and grace. In order for him to stay alive and as mentally sane and emotionally functionally unstable as he could possibly be he needed to be the beast. The ruthless beast needed to seen. I feel like she was the beast, the one thing that he feared. Her love made her a courageous slave who resented her master but never stepped outside to free herself. Since unable to flee,I feel like she punished him by staying with her. It's pretty obvious from the comments that she would make rather often she resented her life with him. She wanted her version of the the ultimate dream life, which included children and a mortal husband. Besides a resented love with Duncan, she was only with him to feel immortal. She felt immune and immortality at times. He was her body guard who gave her the adventure, excitement and evolved her passionate soul she was looking for. She didn't think twice about immersing herself into dangerous and deadly situations because up until her death, he would always save her. She got off on it. Plus it also got her off to often brag about him to other immortals. She was on an ego trip. I think Duncan may have known that she was going to die when she did and allowed it because it was a relief on him. She was/ became more possessive and he didn't belong to her. he wanted an out. Similar to the immortal police officer he beheaded who killed his woman because she was another Tessa, holding him back. Ann Wheeler was the women's name.

@@sarahmoonnoon1536 ha...I think you are spool in love with Duncan you were glad to get rid of Tessa...but you are right in many instances about Teresa's possesiveness and quiet intentions and feelings.. still it is the way woman would be.

On the DVDs, a female fan (she was interviewed but I cannot recall her name) told Stan Kirsch she purchased Richie's terrible green jacket when they were selling the show's props. Stan's response was a deadpan "I'm sorry."

A few points 1. Tessa is beautiful 2. Can understand why Connor didn't appear in more episodes . But he is still the original Highlander. The look, his voice. Lambert's laugh as well :)
@torontoontario83872 жыл бұрын
He was paid like $1 million to star at the beginning of the series. After that he only did that highlander movie.
