I just got "misgendered" at my local supermarket. I told the employee that she was right the first time (calling me "ma'am" instead of "sir"), and I also SUPER casually came out to another employee who had her pronouns on her name tag. I felt so warm and fuzzy due to those interactions.

It makes a lot of sense. That's basically my life. When I was younger I tried so hard to pray the gay away because I was taught by the religious zealots in my life that it was just about the most immoral thing possible. Then, after much therapy, I accepted it, lost my faith (more like yote that bitch over the horizon) and have been gaying the pray away ever since.

@LiamDrake-tz8jr5 ай бұрын
people in the old west didn't really accept trans or gay people, people just didn't notice due to LGBT people hiding the fact they are LGBT, and because of individualism there was more privacy and autonomy for ones owns actions thus they could do what they want and hide as said before. also there was both a sense of communalism and individualism during the wild west, there was just a lot of individualism with examples of communalism being mutual aid societies. and you can even get political by saying that with more social security people have relied more off the government than off each other in a community.

I never got the blue collar for boy dogs, red collar for girl dogs thing because I'd always thought the popularisation of the "colour coded" dog collars was 101 Dalmatians wherein Perdita has the blue collar and Pongo has the red collar, and this coding is passed down to their 99 puppies. When my dog had a red collar he would always get called a she, and people would be surprised that I picked a red collar for a male dog (I picked red because I was waiting for his orange collar to arrive, it had more to do with his namesake than his tackle)

I personally thought that the most hilarious thing in the world was when my mum got her two labradors (a boy and girl from the same litter) shimmery gradient pink-and-blue collars when they were still puppies, so that you couldn't just look at them and go "Oh, that's the boy, and that's the girl." You actually had to call them, which had the added effect of helping them learn to come when their name was called! It's a lot harder to mix them up now, since he's a big ol' tank, and she's a dainty little thing, but at the time it was kinda funny that you actually had to see who came when you called to tell who was who.

Unfortunately many pride flags are made of nylon/polyester, and while it's not impossible to iron nylon/polyester, you do risk melting the fibers and ruining your flag. So if you're gonna iron your flag, do so with caution and on a low heat. Ideally with a seperate cloth between the iron and the flag materials. Like a thin, cotton, hand towel.

my queer awakening (or well the time when i realised i was queer, not when I accepted it) was Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony. Not even just Rainbow Dash, it was specifically an alternative universe Rainbow Dash from one of the episodes. She had a prosthetic wing and a very cool new haircut and 11 year old me saw her for less than a minute and immediately fell in love. I knew I liked her, but tried to convince myself I didn't have a crush on a girl for a long time. I only accepted myself when I was around 14-15 when I started learning about the community.

About that dad with his opinions. I've met several people who genuinely didn't get it that it's not the slurs they use that are the problem, but their general attitude. Like, there was that guy I sorta-kinda knew way back when I was still an egg and thought I was straight by the egg standards, and a couple years ago I accidentally stumbled onto him, and when he suggested we hang out, my brain automatically went "cool, we're kinda buddies with at least 1 common interest, so why not?", while that guy thought he was taking me out on a date. Welp, he tried to "behave" the whole time, and when he was telling me a "funny story" about a [homophobic slur] and I told him where to shove homophobia in general, he "agreed" and then went out of his way to call the supposedly gay guy from his story a euphemism while still making fun of him. That dumbass genuinely couldn't compute that homophobia is an attitude and not just a choice of words.

1.45 I'm honestly more alarmed by the implication that fire ants are intelligent enough to know which people are Christians. A fun thing about the cis- prefix is that in Latin, there is no soft c so it would probably be pronounced with a hard c, like 'kiss'. I reckon certain people of a more prejudiced persuasion would hate the term even more vitriolically if it was pronounced that way rather than anglicised. The 'straight flag is even funnier when you consider that over this side of the Pond, black and white stripes are the equivalent of an orange jumpsuit, ie prison attire.

🧄🥖🧈🌿 2:00 Not sure if podcasts are your thing, but so many historical groups covered on History is Gay were surprisingly gay (and trans!), including the cowboys, pirates, monks/nuns etc. They weren't necessarily queer-accepting, but provided spaces outside of white cishet male society because of the nature of being outlaws anyway. Examples of trans cowboys are: Harry Allen, Charley Pankhurst and a Mrs Nash. Sapphic awakening? Looking back, (though these aren't anthromorphised non-human animals) Totally Spies and Kim Possible. 'cept I'm panromantic, ace and an enby who's still unpacking their sexuality because they grew up in a conservative Christian church (which has ties to Focus on the Family) in a country that cancelled a music festival over a gay kiss and almost didn't allow Coldplay to tour here because they support LGBTQ rights.

You don't actually have to iron your flag. The folds hang out over a few weeks. The ones you see are freshly unfolded.

The argument that "cis isn't a slur BECAUSE it is the opposite of trans" doesn't work with those people, because they think "trans" is also a slur. Maybe not consciously, but, that's literally the only reason that explanation would not be compelling to them. They think trans is a slur or a dirty word and therefore cis is too.

That ant picture (along with several others) was taken by Dr. Mohamed Babu over a decade ago. You can find various articles about it. I'm not sure what type of ants those are, but definitely not fire ants! I stumbled across the pictures a few years ago when I was trying to figure out an oddity I'd noticed with my own local ants. In general they're solid-color, brown or black, but at one point I started seeing some that had a slightly larger abdomen with a transparent stripe midway through it. I wondered if it was a new unique mutation from one of the queens of the local ant colony. Of course, I kept finding both ghost ants (translucent all over) and Babu's pictures when I tried to research this, neither off which were quite what I was looking for. But eventually I found a mention that ants' abdomens expand when they drink a lot, and concluded that it's probably just that. Not anything unique to just near me; it's just that people don't take notice of the ants enough for this to be common knowledge.

10:00 that's so relatable. Whenever my father knows I can hear him, he stops being transphobic and actually starts to use trans people's actual names, but when he thinks I'm not listening, he immediately stops. I honestly don't understand how he doesn't notice that I can still hear him. Most of those times I literally sit next to him.

To everyone with wrinkled pride flags who are scared of melting polyester to their iron: turn it onto the nylon setting, and iron with a pressing cloth lying over the area you're working on. If you don't have a pressing cloth and don't know what it means - a cotton dish towel you're not especially attached to also works. If the wrinkles aren't coming out, up the heat one click at a time, and do not go higher than you need to get it smooth.
