3 things: First- when transplanting organs, doctors often look to the closest living family member first, as there is far less chance of rejection. Given how valuable and how much goes into making an Astartes, every possible way to prevent organ rejection should be used to ensure such a commodity is not wasted. Second: A reason The Mentors could be of 1st legion stock is because of their motus operati. How else to better scout for fallen than to assign as many operatives as far and wide as possible under the ospace of teaching or aiding fellow Imperial forces all over the galaxy? A believable cover for a truly emense scouting mission. Third- The possibility of chimeric geneseed. The Mentors conform well and obey the chain of command nearly as close as an Ultramarine or a Novamarine does the Codex Astares, but also their penchant for secrecy much like Dark Angels. To add to this, the secrecy the serf was sworn to would hint that the Spears were close to the truth of the geneseed, just not entirely on. Especially given in her memoirs she could not stress enough that she did not reveal chapter secrets about their geneseed.

I think that Corvus Corax is the most likely parent. If you go by the fluff an not the tabletop he is all about gathering Intel, recon missions and getting the best tech to pull off said missions. This Primarch was also all about saving the most people with the least Space Marines possible. Look at the way he freed his home world. Look at the way he fought an over whelming Khrave force to save a human world that the Khrave had ruled for generations. Look at the way he hated being forced to attack Gate 42 the way other legions would. Look at the way he hated how Horus had been using the Ravenguard as hunting hounds. An as far as the functioning gene seed, well I personally believe it would be very easy to take the last novel written by Edgar Allen Poe shortly before his death an transform it into a story about a Primarch going into the Eye of Terror on a one way mission of vengeance. An leaving the realm of imagination only when he is able to leave his pain, vengeance and regrets behind. An I also personally feel it would be poetic if the Primarch who was based on the man who helped inspire the creation of Sherlock Holmes and who wrote the most famous story involving the Spanish Inquisition has spent millennium as a secret Inquisator. To me they are the most recent sons of the Primarch of the Ravenguard.

Is it possible they use a chimeric alpha legion/ultramarines geneseed?
@jt9565 Жыл бұрын
Well I arrive late to this video. Mentor legions are one of my top 3 favourites chapters, I love their Navy Seal, Delta Force, Green Beret, kind of thematic I think is really original for a space marine chapter. Here are a couple of points I always thought about the mentors: 1- since it is a highly experimental chapter for everything, we must take into account that this is like this even at a biological level...members of unusual strenght and bigger than average...sounds like a primaris or at least a prototype, not full primaris, but some level of experimentation for them. 2- Since we know that Cawl and Seydane are the same, and Seydane wasn't a member of the mechanicus and was more than eager to use experimental and forbiden science, and we know that cawl does it too maybe because of the symbiotic mind they share AND it is there the rumor that cawl might have used genseed from the traitor legions in some primaris at least parcially. My point here is that, maybe, cawl and the mechanicus were trying to see if they could create new stable genseeds by extracting stable parts from various ones (including those traits considered to be "positive" from the traitor legions) and mixing them up to create new stable geneseeds so, in fact all those chapters mentioned could be part of their genetics, they are wise and efficient in war, as the ultras, they are stealth as the ravens, they are spies as the alpha and they have inner circle theme like Dark Angels. Maybe that is the reason why the star scorpions are said to have unusual and destructive mutations, because it was a first phase experiment that went wrong, in fact, maybe the got too much of the Alpha Legion in their genes and that's why they suffered from so many mutations.
@Firefalcon88 Жыл бұрын
I’d like to believe they’re a mix of Alpha Legion and Ravenguard, or just Alpha Legion. After the Alpha Legion stole the brand new, advanced geneseed stocks, provided to Corax from the Emperor; they kept it for themselves for future use, realizing the potential it provided. They then used this geneseed, mixed with theirs, to create a new legion that could be outwardly pro-Imperium, using techniques and tactics similar to them and the Ravenguard, since both legions’ doctrines compliment eachother extremely well. This new legion could be outwardly loyalist, whereas the AL is clearly deep undercover (or are they?) and cannot blow their cover. They have to support the Imperium from the shadows of the darkest parts of the galaxy, whereas these Astartes can provide everything the AL have going for them, without having to play the long-con and mind games. The mixed heritage would also sow doubt and confusion as to their origins and throw off anyone who digs into them and doesn’t see any clear indicators of what specific geneseed they inherited. It could be enough to put some distance between them and the AL, keeping any of the traitors from being more suspicious than they may already be.

I figure they're probably Ultramarines. It's pretty clear to me that they're meant to be facsimiles of the US Army's Special Forces Groups and any similarity to the Raven Guard is merely coincidental.

Hi. Medical field here. The simple fact is, there's a lot of science magic in warhammer. That said, they treat the lineage like one would a blood type, if we are using that as a perfect analogy, you can use different blood types in real life, it's just a REALLY BAD IDEA. But. A space marine would have a substantially easier time dealing with that. The rate of rejection would go up. I believe at first, the survival rate for the Rubicon Primaris was around 40%, and it went up as time went on. Spears of the Emperor was set around a hundred years later, so let's bump that up to.. oh let's say 60% just to play it on the low side. And then deduct 10% for complications of incompatibility from different gene lines. You now have a 50/50 shot. .. Simply put, until the Cawl era stuff, whoever's wrote the sections on making a space marine? They were a biologist or someone smart enough to make me think they are. The Cawl era stuff is science magic. If I has to throw a guess out there, the Mentors came from either Fulgrim, Lorgar, or the one I prefer, Magnus. They are all know it all types, so it fits. Magnus had a gene seed that seemed perfectly fine, then became very unstable due to warp stuff, and that instability could work in favour of plot for transplants. .. This was not one of my better explanations. Science science science, magic. Yeah, that about covers it.

Im starting to wonder if Corax didnt find a solution to the melanchromic deficiency while mucking about with the Emp's cliff notes on how to make a space marine. Having that clear sign being the signal everyone looks out for instead of actually running tests would benefit the Raven Guard who wish to obfuscate the true total power they can call on while ostensibly not breaking the codex astartes. It's what I would do, franchise out and adopt a quiet "last wall" sort of protocol. Corax' last transmission before entering the warp has *always* seemed like a "go code", an instruction to begin a particular operation. What this says about the Mentors I dont know but it is interesting how often an unknown primogenitor is assumed to be Corax

Mentors are Ultramarines descendants, it says so in Emperors Spears novel and is confirmed in the one Mentor marine in the novel being compatible with Emperors spears primaris organs. If he was not, he would he incompatible.

This issue is brought up in the video. It's also worth noting that: a) The Mentor's serf didn't confirm it either way, Ducarius was only speculating b) Organ transfers between differing gene-lines are already a thing ;)

Yeah, they're Alpha Legion "Loyalists" alright. Wanna be Green Berets, just like the Sons of Alpharius.

I'm not familiar with what the text is referencing, but seeing as it's Grey Knights shenanigans, then it must be some Matt Ward stuff?
@SgtThiel3 жыл бұрын
@@retroicdescent the original Grey knights came from the legions, they had their primarch gene seed removed and replaced with the emperor's gene seed. Because gene seed is like a shirt you know, you can just swap them that easily

Why not from the legion the ultrsurfs absorded during the horus heresy, theres plenty of ultramarine successors that are questionable.

@40k Theories the Mentors are seen in 2nd ED Codex Ultramarines by the follower Chaters of the Ultramarines same by other sources! A Mix of Raven Guard with Ultramarines to stable the Genes i can belive too.
@40KTheories3 жыл бұрын
The 2nd edition codex does _not_ refer to the Mentors as an Ultramarine successor chapter at all. The text for them reads: "This chapter heralds from an unknown founding during a dark period of anarchy." The chapter itself is pictured alongside the Brazen Claws, Storm Lords and Black Templars, an Iron Hands, White Scars and Imperial Fists successor respectively.

@@40KTheories take a look of all stuff from rogue trader on and you find them all times near the Ultramarines! They are discribed as found in the Dark Age of Anarchie. Did you ever seen that the eagle of the Black Consuls, the White Consuls and the Mentos are the same ?!? Coincidence unlikely!
@40KTheories3 жыл бұрын
The bird of the Raven Guard and Hawk Lords is also the same, but the Hawk Lords are Ultramarine successors. The Iron Fists share the same fist icon as the Imperial Fists, but are an Iron Hands successor. Similar icons aren't necessarily an indicator of a shared heritage.

@40K Theories - is deklareted in a collector Book that Raptors ar Ultramariens secessor Chapter but is wrong. The Raptors are from Raven Guard, the only thing they have to do with the Ultramarines is they have saved the Raptors after a crash ladning! But the Raptors Logo is diferent! The painted Miniatur have a diferent Logo as the Symbol in Codex Ultramarines. This Logo is the Same by both Consuls. In the Insignium Astartes take a look on page 9 for the Mentors Chapter. On the same side the Warrior Adepts shown another Hawk symbol! on page 10 you found the Mentors Logo and the Raptos Logo side by side as shadows on the paper! Look at the Mentors itself like you Video explains: they are a Codex Chapther, the Chapther 888 Star Scorpions has an instable Genes like the Raven Guard have. The Mentors have a stable Geneseed like Ultramrines, Imperial Fists and Dark Angels. When they are not a Mixed Genes Chapter than they are simply a Ultramarines Chater (Keep in mind the Adeptus Terra most time take the Ultramarines Genes because auf stability) [ Games-Workshop most time works with Riddles and things between the lines, what makes this channel so interesting, by the way, another good video :) ]

A) unforgiven thing is stupid meme by now (more than half of DA descendants think it's stupid or don't know it's going on so not taking part is not proof of anything) so I am surprised it's been even mentioned. B) no mention of Codex Astartes being strongest proof, seeing it's a book trying to educate and improve strategy and tactics of space marines? C) kinda surprised on mention of Thousand Sons, Mentor tactics fit them better than AL or RG...
