I have already heard so much of Madan Mohan ji genius. He has his style of music and compositions. His father did not allow him compose. He joined film industry as recordist. He started giving music in films only after the death of his father. I am further delighted to know about his lifetime achievements and his ever refreshing musical compositions. Madan mohanji was a genius.He was ahead of his time.In 50's & 60's he did not get recognition for some unknown reason.His compositions are rare gems.In 1964 he deprived the film fare award for O koun thi.Shankar jaikishan got it for Arzoo.Songs of O koun thi are still popular today.Mera saya was another cult film.Atlast he got national award for Dastak in 1970.Haqeekat,Hanste zakhm,Heer ranjha,Mausam contains his immortal melodies.We should listen to him for mental peace.Thanks a lot to Mr.Kataria for analysing his creations.

Very nice and melodious presentation from Rohit, he at this young age learnt the nuances of classical music deciphering Great Madan Ji's mesmerizing works. Madan Ji started his musical stint from AIR, Lucknow and Talat Mahmood Saheb was there his close friend, so Madan acquired basic knowledge of classical music and mixed it with light music. Noteworthy all compositions of Madan Ji are class apart and no one was near to his knowledge, incidentally Madan Ji also assisted Dada SD Burman too for sometime.. Madan Ji is also known as Gazal King besides his total command over classical, Semi classical and light film music was impeccable. Such creator of magical music takes birth in centuries...

I've read many articles and also some books providing analysis of Madan Mohan's music. But nothing beats live demo like this which clearly explains with examples the foundation of classical music in MM's music. Most mind boggling info for me in this video was about 'Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho'! I was always under impression that it was MM's attempt to adapt to Western style of music that had started becoming popular in Bollywood in 70s. He had done a brilliant job of that adaptation with all those Western instruments, etc in that song. I never knew the main tune of the vocals in that song is based on a Raga! Hats off to his genius of using a Raga and making a Western style song out of it!! Please keep this series up. I'd love to know more about the 'secret sauce' of the music of Madan Mohan who IMHO was way ahead of his time in Bollywood and hence never got the recognition he so deserved. Just imagine what he'd have done with all the mixing, recording techniques and high tech equipment available today (assuming Lata and Rafi were still available to sing his extremely complex compositions that only singers of their caliber could sing) !

First of all, I want to make it clear that you deserve all the Positive Comments. I agree with all of them. Here I just want to point out that scope for variation is indeed present at various points in Madanji s compositions, but that is not the Khasiyat of his extraordinary talent. The ONE HE CHOSE to keep for (singers or ) Lata’s Golden voice, was the Khasiyat, He chose most apt, most suitable for enhancing the Mood and Composition. Madanji was so faithful to the words /meaning of the Poetry that he never Compromised just to show his versatility! Thank you for your outstanding work in this Area.
