Been thinking about Wallace and Gromit a lot since the new film came out. It actually hit me for the first time in my near 40 years how mental it is that Grand Day Out is the first adventure. It’s so out there in comparison to what followed

While I defenitely agree stop motion is a meticulous and time consuming process: people don't seem to realize ANY form of animation is painstaking and meticulous if it's good. CGI or 2d can be fast and less work using either the automated copy paste animation or flash cut-out rigs... but it looks dreadful. GOOD computer animation is just as time consuming and meticulous.... and even if there's more "cheats' an dtime savers you don't get in stop motion (without a lot of green screen tricks that is), you're porbably eating up just as much time making all the simulations and materials and lighting look good. CGI has to do a LOT of work to achieve certain looks and feels stop motion gives you naturally... and for a LOT more money! That's why I wish people went to stop motion and 2d animation in theatres more: it costs a THIRD and would need to be a lot less successful to turn a profit.
