Before we were allowed to make alignment marks, I'd always put the number facing where I wanted to make putter impact. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if your flat putter face hits different edges of the dimple pattern on each putt, it could create variation in how the ball comes off. Reducing variability and building consistency is how even average golfers can improve.

If you think something works for you, then it will. You make the reality in golf. Same as using a line up mark when putting, all the tests have (apparently) shown that if you believe this helps you then it actually does, if you don't believe it worls for you then it doesn't. The effects are in your own head, but doesn't mean they aren't real.

So true in many parts of life too. Not all, like falling off a building no amount of positive thinking will avoid hitting the ground, but... succeed in a job interview? Absolutely. Golf is similar to life in that many people compete with similar levels of physical ability, knowledge and skill, but differ in self belief and accordingly in perseverance. That's why certain elite sports don't see catastrophic failure due to loss of ability, or sudden forgetfulness of proper technique, but simply choking

There is technically backspin and launch angle on putts because putters do have loft. It’s minuscule (less than half a rotation) and I seriously doubt it makes any difference in the number of holed putts. I’m sure he has data and I’m sure that data shows a difference if some sort. But that probably doesn’t equate to a difference in putts comings up short or long or left or right.

Turns it over more. (He must mean topspin here). Under puts backspin, causes a skid and slows the speed of the ball. That’s why he say the fast putts matter less, they just power through the skid and start to roll while still moving with good pace.. So, is this a missspeak?

@@mattparker3349 Not in the context of launch. I should note that I mentioned 'less than half a rotation' just to build in some margin of error. We're actually talking about considerably less than half a rotation. Less than a 16th of a rotation. Either way, it's not going to matter. You don't know if that lipped-out putt would have actually gone another half a millimeter left or half a millimeter right because you hit one or two ridges on a dimple. You're well within the random chance range at that point.

As soon as you hit the ball at the equator (mid height), it will initially slide forward without rotation, then get rolling from the friction with the grass. Pretty much like an aircraft wheel at touchdown, but in a much more gentle way. Actually, most putters even have a little bit of loft to launch the ball and not have it contact the grass immediately. Just a couple millimeters height before it falls back.

As much technology that goes into making golf balls they are still very inconsistent from the factory…including the line placed randomly by a machine…Bryson is placing his line based upon physics and after his own level of ball selection he does through additional testing.

@JTMayo803 golf ball inconsistencies don’t have anything to do with him marking his ball this way. The alignment aid on the golf ball is going to be as straight as his haphazard job with a marker. The reason he does this is so he starts the line on the ridge between two dimples so he can set up to hit that ridge with his putter (and marginally change launch angle and spin… maybe… to get the putt rolling quicker or truer.
@JTMayo803
@JTMayo803 4 ай бұрын
@ryanb4533 if you understood sentence structure you would realize I never stated Bryson’s line is “more consistent/straighter” than the factory line… My statement was Bryson CHOOSES where he wants the line to achieve exactly what he desires & describes…which is surprising that you happen to comprehend. Way to go smart arse!

Speed is one of two things on the green the other is line. Maybe the line needs to be at just the right speed to break into the hole, the golf ball alone could make the ball move faster, slower…. But this is wild lol idk bout this

For people who didn't watch the video it's not about the dimples being lined up, its about contact. At slow speeds hitting the wrong part of the dimple can cause it to deviate a fraction of a degree. Now to us that doesn't matter but for someone that one putt can be the difference, yeah it matters

Back when the ProV1 replaced the softer Balata -rubber band balls the percentage of putts made from 10ft and in decreased which led to putting the polymer inserts in the putter faces to compensate. With the thin cover and hard plastic mantle a Pro V1 will slide | --> before friction with the ground starts it rolling ((((( Getting it rolling ASAP after impact |>(((( gives the ball more gyroscopic stability.
