A lot of people are missing the intention behind the gusto sub. Caicedo himself wasn't the issue at right back, it was badiashile playing in an uncomfortable role. He was the press trigger because spurs knew he cant play passes accurately on his right foot and he's slow to adjust the ball to play them on his stronger left. Gusto playing right centreback isn't normal as hed be the one to play cucurellas role on the right side normally, and this shows marescas intent as badiashile moved to left-centreback and colwill centre-centreback. That gives him bonus points for me because it was a game specific change based on an unknown variable before the match and it worked
@HayKay_3 күн бұрын
Chelsea currently have 2 CBs, Colwill and Fofana. The remaining CBs will keep one praying each time they get the ball. Chelsea needs to get a dominant CB in January that can pair with Colwill in Fofana’s absence.
@K41Z3RR3 күн бұрын
Not really. Badiashile can make great passes with his right foot. He is poorly adapted to the right side in terms of receiving and handling the ball, and therefore in terms of decision making.
@shaunbuchanan90702 күн бұрын
💯 that was an error of judgement that could have costed us the game. He made positional errors and over committee in screening attacking players in stead of being goal side. But the problem with inverted full backs we are vulnerable to flank attacks and why we concede so much goal in transition and playing out from the back. It was are superior individual quality and midfield dominance that gave us the edge. But if we are to win trophies. We need greater tactical control and defensive stability.
@shaunbuchanan90702 күн бұрын
@HayKay_ Tosin can do this job! He should be first charge when there are injuries. Then Diaisi.
@K41Z3RR2 күн бұрын
@@shaunbuchanan9070 Chelsea need a good central defender who can deal with the flank threat if necessary. Fofana is like that, but he is prone to injuries. Anselmino is probably young, Acheampong too. But you never know 100%.

@sensabile2 күн бұрын
It hardly takes a genius to spot that Johnson and Werner are extremely limited. Maresca basically "knew" that he had better players all over the pitch. Ange "knew" this too. The only thing that made it into a contest was Spurs' insane intensity. Unfortunately Bissouma and Sarr took it too far!
@shottskies2 күн бұрын
@@sensabilethe only thing that made this a contest at all was that cucurella had two horrific slips in dangerous areas.
@sensabile2 күн бұрын
@shottskies You're welcome to your opinion but the xg from those two slips was insignificant compared to two penalties. Excluding the goals/shots from silly and avoidable errors (ie the slips and the two penalties) then Spurs' xg of 2.75 looks even better compared to Chelsea's 1.29! Also, without the high press those slips don't matter or probably don't even happen. In any case, I'm not disputing that Chelsea were the better team and deserved to win overall, because I think Maresca made great use of the resources available to him; but I think Ange deserves more credit for making it competitive, and at least if you look at the xg stats then a draw should've been the mostly likely outcome.
@sensabile2 күн бұрын
@shottskies now I'm waiting for you to say those penalties were only given away because of Chelsea pressure 😜

Chelsea are fortunate to have players with the versatility to excel in multiple roles. Caicedo and Cucurella, in particular, are key to making the system work, thanks to their flexibility and ability to perform both as fullbacks and in midfield.

@hugoignacio95203 күн бұрын
The tactical change wasnt about Caicedo, the issue was Badiashile who isnt good enough as a left centre back and is even worse as right centre back, thats why gusto was a better option and Colwill changed sides with Badiashile

Cucurella starts the game with the wrong footwear, slips twice and we concede two goals. Just shows how important correct footwear is to all players. The hate on Badiashile is ridiculous. He played on the right in the first half and both goals came from the left. He played on the left in the second half and the goal came from the right. Badiashile is just a convenient scapegoat because no one wants to ever criticize an academy player. It was Colwill that had a real bad day, but he's 21 and is still learning every week.

Ange tactics were spot on until his two better centre backs were out Chelsea scored their goals when Micky and Romero were gone it was written on the wall the moment Romero exit first then Micky followed... because if Romero was playing there was no way he would have let Sancho shoot he always covers Porro defensive frailties but Radu didn't step out of the defensive line like how Romero does it for Tottenham when he sense no one is closing down the opposition in possession it's a natural instinct Virgil does it for Liverpool too when he sense his team mates are sleeping he always breaks the defensive line to close down the opposition in possession a high risk he always takes when they are in trouble Radu didn't even sense that he assumed Porro would take care of Sancho or Bissouma would have closed him down when Sancho was drifting towards the right side of the goal but Bissouma didn't and it was a goal same Bissouma that was constantly giving the ball away to Chelsea gave a penalty lots of Tottenham fans were suggesting Bissouma was one blip away from costing the team that the manager could have taken him off but who should have taken his place since Rodrigo is suspended for 7 matches the best guess is Archie Gray who eventually came on to play as a CB for Micky As a neutral i think the game could have been a draw had Tottenham not been naive with their sloppy challenges also Tottenham were thin with personnel . it's a good win for Chelsea but if i were them i wouldn't be that confident beating Tottenham... Chelsea concedes lots of goals They need to fix that issue because against a non depleted opponents it could be a tough game Because they will keep adding more and more from the bench until they score Chelsea Tottenham didn't have that opportunity when they conceded the 3 goal

@@amazonianstories Only Romero was subbed off at 15 min mark, while Micky was subbed off at the 79 min. So you are wrong to begin with when you say "Ange tactics were spot on until his two better centre backs were out, Chelsea scored their goals". And Spurs wouldn't have scored 2 goals in 10 mins without Cucurella slipping, because Chelsea were in possession. Both team had chances like Son missing a sitter, and Palmer fluffing his shot for a tap in, but overall Chelsea controlled the game and deserved to win, not to forget that they had a left sided CB Badiashile playing in the RCB role since Fofana was injured.

I would really love to see Micky Van de Ven play for Chelsea. He has so much potential to be the best and to be honest he will fit in perfectly with Enzo Maresca's tactical game play. He is young, physically strong and has plenty of pace and energy to play fast flowing football. Chelsea's youthful squad can covers a lot of ground, more than average players going into their mid 20's and 30's, and Micky can do the same. But I'm afraid he's going to throw away his career playing for Spurs until his 30's.

You're right it's about risk/reward but wrong that Ange got it "wrong". Spurs xg (2.90) was higher than Chelsea's (2.83), and Chelsea benefited from penalties (2 x 0.79 = 1.58) given away in low/non xg situations. He has to take all these risks to generate xg because the wingers available are very limited, they are only effective on the break or transition and can't break down teams. Maresca has a billion EUR squad and made EUR200mln worth of subs vs Ange having two teenagers, forced to sub both cbs and play a joke of a pivot because our only decent 6 is suspended. Maresca is a really good manager, but swap the squads and Ange murders Maresca in this game. Ange isn’t limited or naive, his squad is, and that's due to Levy's lack of ambition... and balls.
@sensabile2 күн бұрын
And anyone who says Spurs should've sat back...as far as I can see, you have roughly three choices to deal with Palmer. One is to stop the ball getting to him by pressing the hell out of everyone else (which Ange tried with mixed results), two is to sit back and mark the hell out of Palmer (which other teams have tried, and Spurs sort of forced to do that in the second half, again with mixed or poor results), and a third approach doesn't seem to have been found. He is just ridiculously good at the moment, even without the ball he creates space for everyone else or he can just spoon it into the top corner for a laugh.

Maresca's genius was beautifully shown, but let's be honest, if it weren't for 2 stupid penalties in the second half, Chelsea wouldn't have taken the lead. I was more impressed with how Maresca killed the match with his substitutions, there were more fouls, but not only that. This is something that limits Tottenham, they can take the lead but then they make mistakes that cost them points, in Chelsea, if someone makes a mistake, the players have no problem stopping it foul actions. Tactical intelligence. Postecoglu should be more flexible, for now he looks like a guy who cannot adapt to conditions, without a plan B.

How about Cucurella gifting 2 goals to Spurs by slipping? Spurs wouldn't have score their 2 goals without Cucurella slipping and the last minute goal was only a consolation. @gro9no2 күн бұрын
@@preethamhazard For me, Cucu's slip was crucial for the first goal, but for the second goal, two players could have done better. Tottenham's pressing was quite good in the first half. Overall, I think the first half was 50/50, in the second half Chelsea were better and the closer to the end, the less they allowed Totteham to do. This match, however, was not a tactical masterpiece, Tottenham could have avoided 2 penalties in unforced situations. Besides, I would like to see how Postecoglu uses his brain and moves the team back to defense when he has a 2-goal advantage.
