Norman's discovery of the ominous SS battalion leads the crew to decide to stand their ground and confront the Germans | Buy or rent Fury here: amzo.in/movie/2tq/fury-2014
Last months of World War II in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened U.S. Army sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank called "Fury" and its five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

I pulled security for the 60th Anniversary of the landings back in 2004 near Point-du-Hoc/Omaha Beach on the Channel there in France while stationed in Germany, right after returning from Iraq. I was there for over a week and visited that cemetery a few times. It’s an absolutely beautiful place to be laid to rest, overlooking the English Channel with the Cliffs of Dover just visible. There was even an 80-year old woman there holding a sign thanking the troops for liberating her from Dachau as a child. Your uncle was a warrior, a good man, and laid to rest in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

One thing I disliked about this scene was their lack of obvious preparation. They should have moved all the 30 cal ammunition into the tank, collected any 8mm or 9mm other ammo and some appropriate weapons from the field and cleared a better field of fire. The fact that the main tank cannon also suffered a failure to extract a spent shell during this battle, rendering it useless, was a bit of a stretch too.

My sergeant used to joke on deployment about how he would leave me to die if we got overrun. Joked about it multiple times. We used to joke all the time about how each other were going to die gruesome deaths and we would not miss each other. He ended up saving my life multiple times over those 13 months. Fury does a fantastic job of showing how men at combat will say the absolute worst things possible to each other, and even be horrible to each other, but will sacrifice themselves in a heartbeat to save your life.

No commander in real life is stupid enough to make this decision. This was March or April of 1945. All the regular Wehrmatch had surrendered by that time or were willing to and about to. Those were the "good guys" who were defending their Country and were misled by propaganda. The only ones left were the radical true believers in Nazism- the SS and Gestapo. This situation is historically accurate. There were other holdouts as well in pockets. The sane ones were surrendering in droves while the insane ones fought a losing battle to the bitter end. It's a tragic story that included Japan, Italy, and others; and continues to this day with radical propaganda.

Dang, I came here for a brief Star Wars blaster fight scene and all I got was Nazi Soldiers marching in the mud while sounding like they are stomping on the metal platforms of the Death Star in a parade in font of Emperor Palpatine.

Sure the movie wasn’t perfect but scenes like this made it worth while. I love the camaraderie of the crew. The closest thing to a real Fury story would be a Soviet KV-1 that held up a German advance in June of 1941 during the Battle of Raseiniai.

Damn Norman pretty much got the boys to stay, I mean seriously htf could they really leave there leader and most inexperienced greenhorn soldier against a whole battalion, especially when Norman is the one who stepped up and said he was staying, after that they couldn't leave after the newest un seasoned kid in their crew hadthe Balls to man up and die with war daddy!!!!

There are dozens of soldiers in the marching column with anti-tank weapons and in the ensuing battle only ONE is fired. Otherwise you shoot at TANKS with carbines and machine guns. Exactly my sense of humor. 😏

Wouldn’t it had been better to engage them at a distance? I understand the whole element of surprise but if they had engaged them from a distance they wouldn’t had been surrounded on all sides plus they could’ve just ran away and hid in a pre-made hiding spot after their ammo ran out and lived 🤷‍♂️
@arkwill14
@arkwill14 5 ай бұрын
Absolutely! There were so many reasons to engage them at a distance. When you have a 76 mm gun and a tank -- distance is your friend. It's the infantry who wants to close the distance and engage with you at short range with the portable anti-tank weapons of that era. So they essentially gave up their tactical advantage by playing dead and letting the infantry surround them Plus, at distance it would have taken time for the Germans to realize the tank was immobile and maneuver around it. They could have engaged the Germans at a distance -- given them casualties - and then probably safely withdrawn when they started getting closer. The movie was pure fiction.
