This is my interpretation: The man killed himself (note the letter he signed) by jumping off of a cliff and died by cracking his head open. Since some religions consider suicide a sin, he is now in limbo. He’s not bad enough for hell but not good enough for heaven so he’s cursed to be stuck in an infinite loop being chased by his thoughts, past life and his *Inner demons* . But that’s just my interpretation :D

That’s what I’m thinking too. That the female demon looking thing is chasing and tormenting him because she can. She’s a bully scarring the newest member. The other skeletons are waving and having fun around him because at some point he will accept his own death and join them. They probably went though it too so is letting him do this himself because them coming to comfort or explain will only make him run harder. It helps the explanation to why the skeletons didn’t come to get their skull and just smiled and waved at him. He freaked out when it smiled at him but didn’t run from them until those ghosts showed up.

So I think the Ghosts are representations of aspects of Social Status. White being the blind admiration of people who want your position. Black glowy eyed dude is a representation of those who want to take from you what they don't have. The uh, Fine Madame is a representation of Social Status itself, a controlling, and visibly evil force, that is still highly desirable. And as seen in the contract scene able to push people into making very bad decisions. The loops mid video are because when you move up a rung on the ladder you get to see how nice people have it at your new level. But there's always a higher place to get. The loop from end to beginning is because even when you're set back to square one you'll just follow that path, even if the steps end up different. And if you croak, well, everybody else will be on the same path anyway, another sucker for the grind. Or maybe I'm reading into it WAY too deep, I give it a 50/50 of either.

Why is no one talking about the musicality? Almost everything in this animation is on beat. The most obvious one being the big demon girl slamming her hands to the beat but there are so many more.
