I could just imagine a dog freaking out hearing the coyotes in the tent, and later on Kyle thinking his dog is reacting to coyotes and Jason pops up.

With regards to how 2009 didn’t establish what happened to him at the lake as a kid, and even the originals never really explained how he survived…I’ve had an idea that could explain his evolution from humanish to the undead being as we go for a new reboot series. Taken From the supernatural tv show and the Cross road demons story. Jason could drown as a boy due to lack of supervision. Pamela is so distraught that she tells Elias to do whatever it takes to bring him back. He searches high and low with no success. Goes to a local bar to drink away the pain and while there, comes across someone who tells him of the legend of a cross roads demon. He attempts the process to summon the demon. The demon appears and will make the deal with the Clause that in one year they will come to collect Elias’s soul. This could also explain why we never see Elias in the franchise. There is always a catch with the demon pacts and in this case, the demon will bring back Jason as a boy, and grant him immortality, but the twist is he can still in theory die but each time he dies he comes back stronger and more demonic. So he starts as sweet boy Jason but slowly evolves into a soulless killing machine. Elias is unable to find Jason right away, Pam divorces him and slowly goes mad. Elias eventually finds him and Jason has died a few times already and Elias takes it upon himself to teach Jason how to survive in the woods before the demon comes to collect his soul. Elias tells Jason to protect his “home” all costs. In this setting it would explain how a boy could “survive” the woods, by dying multiple times as a young boy but coming back stronger and more evolved each time. This gets him to adult age where he kills camp invaders. This gets him to where he can die at the end of each film and still come back stronger in the next film.

I do agree with you about the remake not being planned out, as sequels go. I do agree with you with about the mask- I wonder if Jason finding the mask at Trent's cabin would have been better.

This was great to hear all the behind the scenes stuff in the franchise. I used to buy shivers magazine in the UK in the 90's and was so excited when Freddy Vs Jason was first talked about only to be massively let down. In regards to 2009 F13 part of the reason I don't like it is they had the opportunity to bring it back but decided to do a very reductive story that didn't make sense, by 2009 they should be better at telling that story. What it got right was what it did differently from the originals, what it got wrong was basically being a highlight reel of the first 4 F13 films. Cheers again Vincente. Favourite moment "I know some free spirits" 😂

I agree with you. I found the story to be very stunted. The execution made it feel almost like a first draft of an idea that needed more fleshing out. The ideas on the page were certainly on the right track, but something got lost in the translation.

@@WompStompFilms absolutely and for all the shit Trent gets he was the best character. Maybe the best douche of the franchise.

great livestream! sorry I couldn´t catch it live, I always thought that people who make this remakes or sequels are either tied down by studio and executive producers notes and give a watered down version of what could have been or simply don´t care about the IP and see it as a cash grab. Can´t wait to see the peacock version, hope it´s good!

It sucks we haven’t had a sequel in so long. But, if we had one we may have not had Never Hike Alone and its sequel’s. Thank god for people like Vince.

I enjoy the remake for what it is. Not awful by any means, but not great either, and as Vince said, could have been a lot better. The thing that gets me with these movies is how people just don't seem to learn any lessons when they had plenty of chances to. I mean, they had 10 movies, 11 if you count FvJ, to learn from, and that's what we got? Same goes for the latest Halloween trilogy. They erased all those movies from canon to get back to the tone and feel of the original, but still made a lot of the same mistakes the series fell into, and even some brand new ones with Halloween Ends. I'm excited Crystal Lake at least looks like they'll be trying something different and aren't just going to be pulling the same F13 tropes. Hopefully they'll strike a good balance of keeping it fresh, but also Friday the 13th as well.

At about 34 minute in when you're talking about "they'll need to make three movies, they'll need to pick a lane, they'll need figure out what the rules are..." (I'm paraphrasing), these are the thing I've been saying as a fan for several years. We can't always articulate it (Dat moovee sukkz!), but we know when something doesn't makes sense. That's why so many of the contemporary major productions are failing; They lack internal logic, the characters behave uncharacteristically, we're told that this person behaving as a villain is a hero... No sense at all. On top of that throw in mounting inconsistencies and BOOM! You got yourself a failure! As an example, I discovered that we need change only one thing in the Halloween mythos for Michael Myers to make sense going forward. I'll tag you on the TwitX when I'm ready to live stream that "Mitch Talk."

Lack of internal logic is the major downfall of 2009. The film sets up rules and then abandons them at every turn. It is a frustrating watch because everything they had everything they needed to elevate the film to something timeless. Instead we got mixed results and 15 years of drought. The results speak for themselves.

Sorry I missed the Live; I will say I thought Jason in F2009 was one of the best in the entire franchise. Most of the characters in the film were dreadful. All the Never Hike films are galaxies away in every way compared to Friday 2009. I am not suggesting it makes sense, but I always assumed his name was on the bed because Jason spent vastly more time at the camp than other kids because his mom worked there.
@WompStompFilms

Appreciate the compliments. I will never understand the bed thing. Jason and Pamela being permanent residents of the camp makes very little sense. What camp have you ever been to where the counselors and other employees live there year round with all of their personal belongings? That problem with that scene is that it was constructed only to hammer home the point that Whitney looked like Pamela. And if you ask me, in the second the locket flashes on screen, it's not that obvious and I never really saw the connection. It was an odd choice to build the entire plot around.

Love your stuff, man, but I disagree with you because I loved the 2009 F13. #1 The hockey mask discovery was a good subtle touch for me. Remember, no one knew when Jason put on the mask it would become so iconic, so I'm ok without some drawn-out explanation of how he came about it. #2 Jason attacking in broad daylight I'm also ok. Remember, it was said the lake wasn't used as much as of late, so opportunity presented itself so he started killing. #3 Wade's campfire scene- Remember, this F13 was current, and recanting a story about a crazed man killing folks in the woods would seem farfetched for millennials and gen z'ers, so I'm also ok with that scene. Bottom line, it was pretty awesome to me, and I wished they could have continued with that timeline and a sequel.

While not that great by any means, the 2009 reboot film was FAR better than the New Line Cinema entries. Can't stand them. Speaking of which, the writers of FvJ wrote the 2009 film and the dark and gritty atmosphere of it was what they originally wanted FvJ to be, before the studio made it "goofier" and "cartoonier" than they wanted it.

Maybe It was a quick cash grab that made it terrible 😞😔😞😔Heck Never Hike Alone is better than some million dollar company making a movie 😀

I don't think it was a cash grab. I think the studio underestimate how much effort needed to be put into the logic and character development. There are big "oh it's just a friday the 13th so who cares" vibes with a lot of the way things were handled.
