My aunt worked in the children's ward there for nearly 25 years. She used to bring a child home during the holidays so they could get out of there for at least a little bit. I worked with several of the adults after they came out of there into group homes. I had been there several times to drop my Aunt off. It always gave me the creeps. I also had family on my Mom's side who worked there back in the 40's. I hope they weren't involved in the eugenics program, but have no idea about them. I have to say there was one client in particular that totally gave me the willies. Thanks for sharing this. Thank you for being respectful.

Hello, PQ Crew! So, I am both clairaudient and claircognitive. It sounds insane, but I hear things on recorded audio that most people don't. I have "opened myself up" to your shows, and this night, this Pennhurst investigation, was absolutely off the damned rails! I write everything down in a standard 8 1/2" by 11" notebook, and I think I set a record for most whispers/voices that I have heard in anyone's episodes, ever. It was insane! I'm going to list everything I heard, and much of it was relevant to your questions, conversations, etc. Some of it is vulgar. And the list is incredibly long. (If this is ridiculous to you, please let me know and I'll stop doing it). But here goes: 9:46 "So damn blue!" Female whisper as y'all are walking along the path following Eric. To be fair, everyone was wearing blue! 11:34 "That's too bad!" as Eric is saying: "Negative towards women--". Followed at 11:37 by "Damn!" after Eric says: "We can't go in there, but--" Same female. 12:48 "You bet!" as Ryan is talking about burying patients "right outside the doors." Same female as above. She's following y'all around. 13:45 "Let's keep her out!" Same woman. Y'all are entering the Devon Building. 14:09 "Have s'm pie (have some pie)", after Eric mentions "candy store". 15:24 "Who's...with me?" This is a "tiny" female voice, right before Jason starts talking. Boo Box convo (this was interesting): Jason ask Spirit for its name. At 15:57 "Jeff". Then at 15:59 another voice says "Quiet!". At 16:00 Jeff replies: "The fuck? No!" At 16:01 Voice #2 says "Yes!" so then at 16:03 Jeff says: "Ton-ee (Tony)?". 16:18 "What's this?" followed at 16:19 by another voice: "Quite loud!". Then Voice #1 says: "I don't like it!". They were talking about the Spirit Box, and Voice #1 was weird, sounding all garbled and like it was "underwater". 17:36 "Me," after Ryan says: "It's sad here again". This was >not< the Spirit Box! 18:10 "Not. Me." Deep, gritty male voice after Ryan says: "I just got a sob!". 20:35 "Tony." This answer is significant to 16:05. 20:50 "Come here." Faint female whisper from left side of room. 21:39 and 21:43 "Git out (get out)!". The whisper at 21:43 is very faint. 22:26 "Shoo!" Female voice, this was >not< the Spirit Box. 22:40 "Can't he?" No real context for this one, but Ryan is going down a dark hallway. 22:50 "What?!" Class A++ male whisper. He sounds kind of like "WTF?" after Jason says: "You don't have to be afraid to come speak with us.". 23:05 "I don't...care." after Jason mentions the "little toy" in Ryan's hand. 23:25 "Beat...to flinder." Interesting old term. Someone wants to beat Ryan up. 24:25 "This...corridor." Whispered right before Jason gasps. 24:35 "Gimmethum (give me some)!" I think Eric heard this whisper. 25:02 "People, stop!" Male whisper. 25:08 "Hi!" Perky female voice. Ryan is putting the RemPod on the floor. 25:12 and 25:21 "OK.". Same guy from 25:02. BTW, the "cute" at 25:19 was directed at you guys. Same voice as 25:08. She thought you guys were cute! 25:38 "You...broke down". Male whisper after Ryan's speech stumbles on "Candy - candyland room." then at 25:55 the same voice says "How'do (how do you do)?" after Ryan introduces y'all out loud. This same guy says at 26:16 "So...stupid!" after Dave squeals at the cave cricket on the door. Then at 26:29 "Ass! Y'see it (you see it)?" Y'all are laughing, and this is whispered "underneath" you laughing. 27:27 "I can see blood!" Dave is looking up the stairwell, but what this means I don't know. Sounded like a younger female.. 28:44 "Ge'outtahere, big lug (get out of here, big lug)!" This is a male whisper, answering Steve. 33:50 "Left...right...left..." Very faint female whisper during Abandonment. 35:23 "Go left! Go left!" as the guys are about to enter the tunnels. The tunnel door just happens to be on the left side. 37:21 "Get...out!" A very weird, croaky voice. It sounds really muffled. Followed at 37:59 by "Go!". Was this the misogynic janitor behind the door? 38:27 "Get back!" Authoritative female whisper as y'all are going upstairs. 38:37 "Walking!" Same authoritative female whispering, after Steve says: "Stop!" 38:47 "Hold it right there!" Same authoritative woman. This was whispered after Steve says: "Why do you want us to stop?". Followed at 38:49 by "Halt!". 42:40 "No. It wasn't." This is the same voice that Dave and Jason caught at 37:21 in the tunnels. This came from Ryan's left side. 43:20 "Get...out." Almost inaudible whisper, but Jason heard it. Whew! End of Part One! This place is amazingly active! Stay tuned for Part Two!

You can tell the difference between cowboys and the real deal who investigate 🔎 I watched a cowboy just a month ago who had 3 or 4 episodes on this place and liked to be loud and obnoxious and intimidating at times. Rox & Son i would not just show up there without a guide. End of September through first week of November you can go to a tour but i would get there early. People come from all over to visit here. If you go on your own you will be fined a hefty amount. A lot of the property isn’t safe so please don’t explore on your own!

My room mates were there a few months ago , and are headed back in a few weeks . We live in NW PA , so its only a few hours away . Between Pennhurst and Gettysburg , PA has some nice places to investigate . Plus The Hinsdale House is about 30 minutes away , so we hit that place a few times a year as well . eugenics was practiced everywhere as "modern medicine" at the time. Anyone who was deemed "not fit" ie. criminals, mentally ill, people with birth defects, poor, black etc. were often sterilized when in jail or hospitals often without their knowledge.

Blame the doctors who told parents that the best place for their disabled children was to be put in a institution instead of staying at home with family. Blame the parents who were willing to give up their children instead of fighting to keep their children in the family. My own parents fought for their rights to keep me and raised me at home with the family. They were told to put me away instead of keeping me just because I was not talking at age five in the 1960s. But my parents said no and raised me as if I was normal and they found out that I was only learning disabled. I was able to graduate from high school and earn a BA and a MA in college. I now have been working with people with autism for over 20 years. ☺️☺️

This was spoken in the space between Ryan saying "get out" and "on the stall.". 48:43 "Do you want...some?" This whisper after Ryan asks: "Why's it say 'get out'?'. Followed at 48:48 by "Hate him!". 50:01 "C'mon (come on)!" right before Ryan says he hears footsteps. 50:40 "A wild thing." A female whisper after Ryan asks: "Who's walking down there?". This woman is up next to y'all, between you two. She actually sounds frightened of whatever is walking. At 50:44 she says: "Watch. He goes...walking". At 50:49 there is a loud scrape/thump down the hall. Steve says: "It's getting closer!" and at 50:56 the woman whispers: "There! Right there!", and at 50:59 "Run!". 51:02 "You are...mine!" This is the same weird, gravelly male voice from the tunnels. Followed at 51:06 by: "C'mere (come here)!" and at 51:08 "Hurry! Now!". This is creepy! 51:46 "W'areyou (where are you)?". Same voice that didn't like the Boo Box noise downstairs. Jason says: "It makes a little noise", and at 51:55 it responds sarcastically: "Does it really?" and 51:58 "I know it!". This voice is garbled, like it's speaking from underwater. 52:03 "You're rude!" Ryan and Steve are walking down a hallway. 52:48 "Sorry, I missed the bell!" Sounds like an older lady, as y'all are looking for room 318. 53:02 "Heaven? Is none." Y'all are talking, and this dude just inserts his opinion right on in there! 54:03 "Room...317." Male and female whispers after Steve asks if this is room 318. "317" is very faint. The male says "room" and the female says "317". 54:05 "Get out!" Different male whisper. 54:07 "It has a ceiling!" This is the same female who whispered "317". 54:22 "Turned up too loud!" Male's whispered complaint as the Boo Box makes a really loud, horrible tone. Followed at 54:25 by "Go!". I guess he didn't like the loud noise! 54:34 "Yes. Leave!". Male whisper as y'all are going back down the hallway. OK, so there is the end of Part Two. Criminy, this place was something else! This really >has< set a record for me, hands down! But what nifty Spirit conversations and exchanges you caught! Actual Spirit to Spirit interactions! Please take a listen and tell me what you think! My grandfathers cousin told us a story of how she was visiting her daughther and she saw someone at night. He was dressed as an orthodoks priest and he came in the room in the night. Since her daughther had a lot of children they slept all in one room. And the granny was with them. The aparition went from person to person and checked them are they sleeping. And granny was in shock. She covered herself over the head. He stopped by her bed for a moment and passed by after that. Then, after checking them all, he left the room. She told that to her daughther and son in law but they said they know. And that the house was built on the place of an old church. They called the priest, orthodoks, catolic and muslim imam To clense the house since daughthers husband is muslim and she is catolic. But the ghost didnt leave. And so they cohabitate with the decised priest

What the people of Pennhurst went through was immoral, disgusting and wrong on so many levels. I feel bad for those poor souls who have passed. May they rest in peace.

People with disabilities, mental health issues have always been at the bottom of the pile when it came to funding services for people. Those big institutions were usually built away from population centres, probably because the thinking at the time was "out of sight, out of mind". Remove the problem from our midst and we don't have to think about them. I know in my lifetime, newborn babies that were obviously disabled at birth, sometimes never went home, they were transferred to these institutions on the advice of doctors, telling parents it was the best thing for them, to go home and forget about them and try for another child. That's why a lot of these people knew no other home and were never visited by family. The Hospitals were built with the best of intentions, but because the demand for services was so high they quickly became overcrowded with no increase in funding to meet the needs of the residents. Most funding went on staff wages, these staff were some of the worst paid staff in health services and with little spare money there was little in terms of training or updating skills. They attracted people to work there, some of whom couldn't get a job anywhere else and weren't exactly the caring type, which lead to all kinds of abuse happening. It has to be said though these places were also full of people who were dedicated to the people they were looking after, really good people who the system just abused through lack of funding and poor wages, many gave their whole working lives to caring for these people, the people that society had rejected, some from birth. With the closure of the big institutions we are seeing our towns and cities now full of people wandering about the streets, in obvious need of help for their disability/mental health and they're in many cases left to fend for themselves because of lack of services, like stray dogs and cats. We seem to have gone full circle, from one extreme to the other, so sad.

We were looking forward to watching this since we had recently investigated Pennhurst. You had Amazing captures in the tunnel and so many voices coming through on the hallways. That's one thing we realized about Pennhurst the Spirits were not afraid to let you know they were there through EVPs and the Spirit Box. Another Awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing this!
