Hi Matt, paint the bottom of the role in, in thick bitumen paint. This will waterproof the plywood and then you should be okay to concrete it in. Absolutely loving the channel by the way 🤙

Ya concrete will rot the wood just as bad as the soil will. He needs to put some sort of waterproof membrane on that wood.
@gawdlyinhale42035 жыл бұрын
@@jsbmx2039 actually, if he used the special skatepark cement at the base, it is made to not rot wood it absorbs more moisture and dries faster than standard quick-crete, he could just fill it in but it would cost like around 300-500 for that, if he wants to go permanant thats definitely the solution, if not the waterproofing would work forsure, but its definitely a option to use skatepark cement
@thatman845 жыл бұрын
I would dig a slight 6-12 inch trench around the whole perimeter and slope the earth away from the wood/post bases. The water will never collect around the wood that way. And paint the bottom 2 foot with bitumen

Generally you don't want to mix organic and non organic materials. Plus the wood could suck the moisture from the concrete. So coating the wood would probably be the best solution, and then you could poor some concrete to stop water from pooling up. Just make sure to add a small slope away from the wood, so it drains.

Take industrial plastic wrap(polywrap) staple it to the bottom of the frame. Inside and out, 360°. Next dig a deep trench all around the ramp. Inside and out. 360°. Deeper the better. Fill in with 4inch thick layer of gravel. Lay stapled plastic wrap down into gravelled trench and angel it outward away from ramp.. maybe two feet out. Lay sand on top of poly wrap. Finish with concrete or more gravel. Days worth of work but that should give you many more years of dryish wood. I'm a tradesmen too.
@shanebrown24325 жыл бұрын
All is coming together, looks good. I have built Ramps and what I do with bottom of them is paint with a bitumen paint (remember to paint inside of it, not just the outside) I wouldn't concrete it in. I'd lower and slope the soil around it away from the wood. As for main ramp, I use a exterior paint, mixed with kiln dried sand and Pva. I protects the timber and the the sand gives some grip. (I normally do this on the take off Ramps) But food for thought. Not sure how you saved it on the pitbike, thought you were gona eat it.
@evinreed63725 жыл бұрын
You should pour atleast 3 inches of concrete as 1 inch will crack right away. Also worth putting expansion joints in every 6 feet or so since there’s no steel, relatively cheap at any hardware store. Can’t wait to see the finished product! Roll in is looking mean.

Paint the wood footings first with water based water proof paint , then line it with pond liner then concrete. If you pour the concrete strait in the wood will stoke the moisture out if it and will rot and be a bugger to get out, should work well this method. 👍

what yey need is some preferated drainage pipe to lay beneath the ground level...water will then drain away quickly. maybe get some MOT stone and lay down a compacted layer with slits of soil at 2m intervals horizontal to the roll-in ramp such that the water can find its way down to the buried drainage pipe and ultimately away elsewhere in the compound

you concrete idea may work, if you do that i highly suggest renting a construction vibrator so you can get rid of any air bubbles, it will also help make the concrete bind to the ply wood better. id then caulk around the where the ply wood meets the concrete as over time it will pull away from the plywood causing a gap :)
@weedfreer5 жыл бұрын
if you fix the wood of your ramp down at 45 degrees to the direction of travel, the gaps are already pointing down...seal it up for good measure tho like also, if you use marine plywood and seal it with a varnish, it'll last a long long LONG time x

Concrete will make the wood soak up more water than without it. People use concrete to make fences but that just makes the posts rot faster
@xHunteR55S5 жыл бұрын
putting concrete as a base would most definitely work cause concrete doesnt soak up the water as bad. You just have to pay attention to your mixture and dont overfill it with water. Imagine a wooden fence pole, they get concreted into the ground aswell sometimes and they dont rot aswell. You just need to seal up the exposed plywood over the ground against rain and fog moisture.

Before yout pour concrete around the base, put some plastic foil on the plywood, maybe fasten it with timber staples a foot off the ground. Your goal is to keep the water away from the wood. If you just pour concrete in the ground, it's very likely that rainwater will just stand on the surface on the concrete. While you're at it, coat the whole thing in water repellent paint. *architecture student flies away*
