You forgot one important thing about the anime in the beginning of the series. When the student that died was popular and everyone in the class was so distraught about it, that they all started to pretend that the student was still alive as a coping mechanism,so when the class picture was taken after the student’s death that’s why they showed up in the photo. So it’s a hint that shows that they in fact must’ve invited something paranormal into their classroom and that’s why the curse of 3-c started. Another fact is when they say they are “close to death”is because in Japanese culture the number four is considered bad luck,because it has to lead to the underworld or the land of the dead which since three comes before four is what they meant by it.
