Sometimes I wish Dontnod could’ve given us a third ending option for Max to go back and intervene without powers in the bathroom try to solve the situation with clever dialogue. It would’ve been similar to Ep2’s Roof Dialogues. For players feeling brave, choosing that ending would involve Max not using any powers at all and then that could’ve set course a third more peaceful ending of Max realizing that she doesn’t need to use her powers all the time to solve things and then that would’ve been a great setup to Double Exposure as well or just kept things open between Max and Chloe. Overall though great video! Loved your analysis.

Thank you for uploading this. I have been wanting to do a film focused on Chloe and your analysis is helpful in my research. Chloe and I have both lost a parent and a few other smaller similarities I won't get into.

I thought this was super insightful. ironically I grew up with loads upon loads of trauma that no one takes seriously. It was interesting to see how much the opposite sucks too. Now I'm much older I notice that when someone around me is going through something super hard, everyone around them drifts away while I draw to them, as I know exactly how they feel and can genuinely empathize in a helpful way. I alwyas joke that I'm a bad good weather friend (chronic illness will do that) but I'm the best bad weather friend you could ever have.

Max was a terrible friend honestly, au her made more effort. I get chole more as I grow older, although some of chole's problems are her fault not trying to make friends in blackwell and only see everyone as a enemies

It's pretty common behavior. She's suffering from depression and probably some other mental illnesses given the meds you can find in the bathroom. Given her abandonment issues, pushing people away to not risk getting hurt again is in her mind a valid response, and the line "It's always easier being alone when it's a choice. I don't want to be alone anymore." solidifies it back in BTS when Deck9 had any semblance of understanding about her character. She's also only like 16 in BTS and 19 in LIS, no matter how you twist it, she's still just a kid and kids doesn't act in neccesarily logical ways. That's why it's hard to have conversations about Chloe with people, because people think they're the pariahs of moral behavior while looking in from an outsiders perspective (not calling you out, I'm referring to some infuriating takes I've read). Max goes a bit deeper than being a terrible friend, the thing is that her intentions weren't bad on purpose. She didn't ditch Chloe because she couldn't be bothered, she didn't contact her because she's an neurodivergent ball of nerves who eventually convinced herself that Chloe was better off without her (which was wrong, go figure). She too had her life completely uprooted when she was 11. Chloe was her entire support system, and William was a second dad to her. Now she finds herself somewhere completely foreign without Chloe, who was the outgoing of the two, who pushed Max out of her comfort zone. Without her, Max would more than likely retreat into her shell and more or less shut down. Couple that with how enormously guilty she felt for leaving at the worst time possible and you have a pretty clear explaination of what one can imagine happened. That's the wonderful thing about the girls' journey in the game. They literally make eachother better, together they are complete. Chloe pushes Max to come out of her shell, and Max grounds Chloe, in contrast to Rachel who amplified Chloe's worst traits. For some reason people seem to forget that Chloe that by Episode 5, Chloe is not the same person she is in say Episode 2. It took Max less than a week of being there for her for Chloe to show her true self again.
