When I was 15 my uncle had a catamaran. 16 -18 meters long approx. 8 meters wide. I never forgot the still sea in the morning. The incredible nights with a sky full of stars. I'm 55 now. Was seriously ill in 07. It took 3 years of therapy before I could eat and walk on my own again. I would give anything to live like this again. I wish you all the best and enjoy the time.

Outside of the "engine" situation you are so "matter of fact" about things to do with the boat. The laugh and giggle when you see a possible opportunity to swim with the whales is priceless. Good stuff Lauren.

Lauren, I had to watch this video three more times. I can't get over the shots where the sky blends perfectly into the sea. I even thought the laundry drying on the rails while on the move, was another part of sailing life that most people that don't sail, might not think about. I'm sure Mako knows enough to stay away from the seacock hatch when you start up the engine. He's a clever boy. Anyway I didn't want to take up too much of your time. Great job, and have a great weekend.

Good morning happy Laurin. What a fabulous day for adventure. Looks like my prayers for you have been answered. Not that they will stop going up from this end. Unbelievable footage this week, and the water clearly has improved so much. Great that the motor is on the mend, but I will feel much better when it is no longer a concern for you. Running out of gas while the cruise 🛳 ships are on the move, handled so well. Just one more obstacles to check off my prayer list. I will be watching this video several times, while waiting for the next one. So many stunning scenes, and two beautiful happy ladies having a great time, makes my heart ❤ fill with joy. Until then, be happy, be safe, and know that you are safe in the hands of the man, who has calmed the seas you are sailing ⛵ on.

I hope you got the engine issue taken care of! Keep your intake seacock closed when the engine is not running, and install an exhaust flapper to prevent water backing into the exhaust system in following seas. This is the best time of year to cruise the Bahamas!!!! I can see how much fun you are having!

What a beautiful experience!!! I am still thinking about the water issue / engine. You need to keep checking if it is still happening and find someone to fix before it before it is too late. The mix of water and oil can damage your engine seriously. It is not the kind of things that will go away by itself. Good luck!!!

I enjoy watching your video and you always continue to learn and grow. Regarding fishing, you mentioned that you have trouble catching fish and I noticed you seem to always have the same lure on the line. You might changing the color of the lure. I have good luck with blue colors and I read a combo of white and blue is a good color for fishing the Bahamas. When in double check with folks that are catching fish. That is the best tip I've ever read. Good luck and keep the videos coming

Your engine issue may be that there is a long run of hose for the raw water from the heat exchanger to the stern and this hose is not far below the exhaust outlet. When the motor is stopped a bit of boat motion could cause the water remaining to run back in to the cylinder if the motor has stopped with the exhaust port open.

I cruised with our family sailboat for many years generally on the coast of Maine which is incredible with thousands of islands and 3500 miles of coastline. In fact Maine has the best and most interesting sailing in the world. What I would say is a sailboat is a mechanical contraption expect the unexpected, breakdowns mechanical failures, searching for parts and mechanics. Surprisingly I have found hard to find parts in suppressing places. Basements of old island general stores, help from lobstermen who are good mechanics. Somehow it generally works out.

Engine help/suggestions! You can see my engine rebuilds on my Chanel as I used to do yacht maintenance. What will cause hydra lock? 1. Raw water system 2.leaking injectors 3. Gasket failures On your raw water system I saw you had a check valve on a small hose on the back of the engine which also had a valve on it. Do not trust check valves I would turn all valves from raw water system off while not running. Make sure there is no air in the system after start up and opening the valves. I believe what you have is a very small raw water leak that builds up and runs into the intake or exhaust valves while sitting. If so the only way to purge the system is to remove the injectors and cycle the engine as you did and change the oil. If raw water is making its way through the intake manifold you can remove the intake rubber hose and literally see if water is building up prior to the intake. From there track down where it’s coming from. If it’s coming from your heat exchanger and leaking back into the exhaust valves into the heads filling up the cylinder then it would be bad heat exchanger which is not the case I believe. I think it’s coming from a raw water somehow leaking back into the intake side and whatever intake valve is open the water fills the engine and also raises the oil level= called making oil. If your oil is milky it’s raw water infiltration If your oil smells like diesel it’s bad injector OR bad fuel pump which diaphragm will go bad and leak diesel back into the oil pan explaining the increase of fuel consumption. Question? When you pulled the injectors did raw water blow out or diesel, antifreeze? You can bend valves and destroy an engine hydra locking it. Run your engine frequently while sitting to purge it occasionally. Monitor your oil level to see if it’s MAKING oil. Smell it to see what might be mixing. Antifreeze smells sweet, water just milky, diesel will be obvious. If you take the rubber intake hose off (the large one)that is one sure way to test the intake side and see for sure of ruling that one out. If not it’s on the exhaust side. Could be a bad gasket on the heat exchanger that separates the cooling system from the actual exhaust port. It will leak back into the engine that way. Increase the height of your muffler loop above the water line! Also a exhaust flap was mentioned. Very good idea. When you change your oil add 💯percent LUCAS PETROLEUM oil additive to your engines oil change. It has ZDDP in it which was key to protecting your top end components and keeps your engine from dry starting. No lubrications. It will also help with corrosion if your engine floods. I have used this on engines that had no oil and it saved the engine on a oil pump failure. Very good stuff! All diesel oils do NOT have it anymore due to epa and emission components. Hope this helps!
