How did this production ever reach the stage? It seems to me that if the lead character in the play doesn't know her lines well in advance of opening night, either she should be replaced or the play should be cancelled. I felt sorry for the other cast members. It must be disheartening and very difficult to keep up any enthusiasm when the actress playing a central character can do no more than stagger lamely through the production, even with the script in her hands. The only way for this production to make any money would be to let the audience in for free and then charge them to get out of the theater.

Oh no “has something happened?” “Whats happened is my book is all messed up.” “I’ll be right- im just trying to find my line.” I feel so bad for the lady who played Laura. She’s trying so hard to improv and give the woman playing Amanda time to figure out her line. The woman isn’t even trying to pretend she’s not literally reading her lines on stage. Was there no way to at least disguise the play book as a book of something that Amanda would read? This is horrible. I truly hope the audience didn’t have to pay to watch this because if they did it was money wasted. Tom and Laura’s actors are actually really in character the entire time, and with a different actor playing Amanda this could have been a fantastic production.

I wonder if they had Amanda drop out and this lady had to jumpy in and do her best. ? Who knows- maybe she saved the show by stepping in. 🤷♀️ I’m Amanda in an upcoming production and I can attest it’s a lot to learn! Just wonder what the BTS story is. Props to the other actors for doing so well.

I played Amanda in my high school play back in the late 80's and I got a standing ovation. :-) This rendition is not very good, God bless them.

I think it was very well done and it helped me understand the play more for my summer assignment but it just sucked that Amanda was so terrible because she was one of my more favorite characters in the book all the other actors were very good though! She really swayed my opinion on the performance as a whole though which is a pity.

What the heck catastrophe happened the day of the performance that caused the replacement of the lead character? I've never seen any production anywhere that needed to put someone in who literally read from the script the entire way through on stage. She almost pulls off using the book as a prop, but looks at it too much.

Yeah, this is pretty awful. Blame the actor playing Amanda for not even trying with her role and blame the director for allowing this to reach the stage.

Say what you will - she's the best damned Amanda THIS man has ever seen. At least she doesn't have that fakey ass Scarlet O Hara accent which is imitated by every swinging dick. Her reading here is better than the other two memorized lines put together.
