I'm English (but wanted Scotland to do well). What surprised me was not that they lost, or even that they lost 5-1. I've seen Scotland play badly before. But this is the first time I've seen a spineless Scottish team. You always used to get a battle, even if there was a skills gap. They just seemed to roll over.

From an ardent England fan who lives in the highlands and loves it, I was beginning to warm to Clarkes Scotland side and was extremely disappointed with the result last night. I do think Clarke got it wrong, the Scottish fan turnout last night was fantastic and Clarke didn’t take advantage of that. If only he had pressed the Germans instead of sitting back and giving the Germans the freedom of the park, he surely had to set the team up so that it would give the fans something to cheer the lads on. With that support behind them may have given them something. Poor tactics.

Clarke has always played the exact same system. It's sit back. dont press, dont attack and just lump the ball, play for set pieces. Its 1960s football, hes holding the entire country back and its a miracle we ever qualified in the first place. when other countries like spain are reporting you for anti football you know its bad.

There were absolutely no positives to take from last night. Scotland couldn´t put two passes together. What was so interesting was every time a Scotland player had the ball a German player was right on him, pressing; every time Kroos or any other German player got the ball Scotland stood off. If you show the opposition too much respect and give better players time on the ball you will get beat, simple as. No passion, No aggression. No guile. Hopeless. If Scotland play like that in the last two games it could end up being Scotland´s worst ever tournament.

You need to process setbacks within the game, in order to mount a response, it must have been torture for those boys last night because they never got a moment to catch their breath, especially after the 2nd goal. Keep the faith, every player there is a pro, they have good days and bad days. The pressure on these games is deadly if it starts to go wrong. Getting beat is an unavoidable part of the game, I suspect this defeat hit the manager harder than the players last night. Hope they dig deep and hit the heights next game.

Billy gilmour 😂😂 geez peace ya pair of clowns....the reasons was he played 3 centre halfs...one isnt a centre half and other 2 are less than average...2 wing backs who are full backs..one if the best midfielders in EPL in .mcginn out of position ....our mid 4 played 10 yards in front of the men they should have been marking and continually looked over shoulder not having a clue what to do. Centre half from watford and one who is a league 2 player at best playing is a disgrace...mcginn lying down behind the wall them standing on goal line 50 yards offside? Stop trying to be clever and get the basics done right..worst team in the competition,be hard to beat..4-5-1...be solid and dont keave big holes all over the park

Agree with Bill.The Germans did a Jedi move form the Kick-off on us by hoofing the ball right into our penalty box. That moment was a mental signal from the Germans that said ' We are playing this game in your box'. That kick off spooked us and from that moment we never got any foothold in that game. Gunn has to save the first goal and the 5th goal and he had 'Haribo arms' when it came to shot- stopping, but he was quick off his line and good at that part of the game. Scotland's 3-4-3 Just Does Not Work against top opponents away from Home. How Many drubbings does Clarke need to Take before he realizes we need a shape change. This might mean dropping Tierney and playing a 4231 shape or playing Robertson in a midfield 3. Even the Germans play a conservative 4-2-3-1 ffs. it's clear that the Swiss will destroy us with that 3-4-3 system.Tierney was awful and he should be dropped. This might be horrible again against the Swiss and that means Clarke should play your Conway's and Shanklands and just look to play guys that benefit from playing in a tournament to help them in the future.

As for Robertson he said to a reporter day after team arrived in Germany long before game v Germany and his very words were to the reporter ---> "We train on beer and Whisky", aye is what he said seen on you tube . Now did they ? Makes u wonder with the way they played .Anyhow I said long before after the groups were made that we would be lucky to win one game , said i doubt we shall . Now i said also 3/0 for Germany leading up to this game and stood by such , although ended 5/1 i was closer to any fans THEM saying a draw and 2/1 etc . Anyhow its the worst display ive ever seen from any Scotland team and All of Europe was watching , and they have most probs walked way from their tv screens this once seen its a one sided affair as who wants to watch one side all over the other in any game and any Sport , and they know the outcome long before the end , as its boring and so if Scotlaand ever gets a mention re football then they all just shall laugh fter this . Gilmour has to start every game. The best midfielder we have. McGregor needs dropping, does nothing for us. McTominay and McGinn need to up their game massively. Robertson and Tierney need to do the same, they do nothing down the left and both are some of the worst crossers of the ball. McKenna should start ahead of Hanley. Shankland ahead of Adams (Shankland can at least hold up a ball). Christie is more ineffective than effective and should never be an automatic start, And Gordon should have been first pick in goal, but too late for that now. As for Steve Clarke, WAY OVER-RATED as a manager. Tactically weak, wrong calls in starting line-ups in big championship games, and useless as an offensive coach. A defeat against Germany is fine, even expected, but that was the most disjointed, inept, cowardly performance from a Scotland team I've ever seen. Players and manager better get it right for the next two games because that was embarrassing stuff the other night (as embarrassing as Tierney celebrating a tackle or the Tartan Army celebrating our goal as if it was a winning goal in the final).
