To whom this may concern (so not lewis): Ae2 works on busses modeled after irl computer busses that were phased out in the 90s. Each cable can only cary so many data signals, or in ae2 terms connected devices. So the standard me cable can only support 8 devices whereas a dense me cable can support 32. Please note both each ae2 bus type will be considered as 1 device and will take up a channel accordingly. Next we move onto the controller(s). The controller is essentially the cpu, and each face of a controller can output up to 32channels. I suggest you make a hollow 5x 5 cube for expandability purposes. Now onto data transference (item/liquid/gas/space) theres a bus for everything you need however the labels are system centric. So a gas import bus will import gas into the gas storage cells, whereas a gas export bus will export gas from the storage cells into whatever machine you want it to. The storage cells are pretty straight forward. Just jei the recipes. Then theres also upgrade cards. The ones that matter are the capacity csrd, and acceleration cards. Capacity gives u more filter slots in the busses whereas acceleration makes items flow at a higher rate/speeds ae2 machines up.
@EpyonRules5 күн бұрын
I hated when they added the "only X number of channels per cable" because it made the Thaumcraft essentia storage addon more complicated. Prior to that change, you could have a nice, simple wall of labeled essentia jars being fed from the back by filtered exporters hooked up to essentia storage harddrives and it was super simple and easy to always keep your jars topped off for infusions. Sadly, iirc, the channel-limited cables made that a lot more complex and space-intensive.
@cyruskhalvati5 күн бұрын
@@EpyonRules you can still pull it off quite easily… just use different colored cables. They dont cross. The way i have my base setup, i use 8 different dense cable colors to run channels to where i need em. Usually i can get away with alternating between 2 colors. But sometimes i cant, so i use more. Use a fluix cable to join different colors you need together (if that situation ever arises) And later game when power is no issue and u have a fluix network up for wireless uncapped power, you can use some nifty wireless links (not the quantum link ones) to wirelessly send 32 channels, and its only a 1 block item. You can still do every single thing you could do before. You just need to think about it a bit differently.
@RubelliteFae4 күн бұрын
Isn't a controller more like a motherboard's north bridge? Or in networking terms like a router? Or in traffic light electronics, a controller? Or in trains-with-faces terms, Fat Controller?
@cyruskhalvati4 күн бұрын
@@RubelliteFae you could make those analogies and it would be accurate. I was thinking in terms of pcie lanes (expansion slots) in a computer. The amount of lanes a computer supports is determined not by the mobo, but by the cpu. It’s basically the same thing as channels.

ae2 is really rewarding when you "figure" it out. you never figure it out, but when you get it working its great. honestly just for the customisation of ae2 i think it beats RF, different coloured wires and you can have a controller multiblock so you could a have cool ring, a place for cpus for autocrafting and all that stuff. if you want a floor of computer stuff ae2 will fill that space
@Lanka0Kera5 күн бұрын

Ive been working on fitting more crafting co processors in small spaces. Its quite finicky, but once you understand where you can and cant place them. Being able to run like 20 crafting jobs at once is really convenient. Where ae2 gets really op imo is for gas/liquid storage for mekanism. Fully automated 5x processing that is never bottlenecked. I think I have 20 max size boilers producing brine at all times, and without the storage, it’s simply not enough to keep a large scale 5x factory full all the time.
@AsbestosMuffins3 күн бұрын
thing I always liked about ae2 is being able to make small sub systems that can handle things but feed back to the main system also the massive parallel crafting you can do with autocrafting. The differences between AE2 and RS: RS is much easier to use, crafting recipes for its own items are incredibly simplified and autocrafting is easier to use too. AE2 has much harder crafting recipes, you need to pay attention to channels but it is less laggy when handling large crafting recipes. Also RS gets laggy when storing a lot of data on drives, AE2 does it a little better. If you're starting to notice a lot of lag, I suggest trying to switch to AE2 even if the learning curve is a lot steeper. Or if you want to play with the spatial storage, go for it. For any other reason, RS is so much friendlier to use for basically the same capabilities. Also, pretty sure RS can work with create too, autocrafters facing into other blocks will try to use that block for the crafting recipes it knows.
