After all these years, I still can't take my eyes off of Belinda. And I agree with them both. They don't need to be validated by the hall of fame. They are awesome in my book and there's nothing like a Go Go's song to make you feel genuinely good inside. They will forever be a favorite of mine. And I have only 2.

No one cares about the Rock n roll hall of fame.. atleast not until their inducted... it is kind of a joke... put in like Pearl Jam and leave out the Sonics ... weak... I think most have seen a few pics or know about Belindas involvement/connections w Darby & the Germs .. Lorna Dune Pat Smear etc .. I'm sure they popped in and out of other ill fated punk bands. I mean that's what you did.. .just like most of huge 70s acts were in 60s garage bands previously... anyway .. I love the Go Gos not cuz their gals ... its fun stripped down no nonsense rock n roll and not so poppy rock / surf rock / power pop / pop punk/post punk/punk... I gotta watch this documentary... love music docs.. I mean I could watch a documentary about lamps and love it...much less music ...and its the friggin GO -GO's!!!! May they rock on 🤘!!! Much love....I love you Charlotte 😍

I had "Our Lips Are Sealed" stuck in my head from a supermarket for the last two days and I had to listen to the song, because all these years, I didn't know the complete lyrics. So, I ended up here and this is so cool. Though I was into the metal scene, The Go Go's brings me back to my high school days 84-87. Man, my hormones were racing when I heard them, like Sirens.

Lyndsey Parker is always so great at interviewing. She always asks the questions I’m wondering about. After just watching the doc, I too was curious why only Charlotte’s drug use was the focus when Belinda has recently been discussing a THIRTY YEAR cocaine addiction. And I was thinking, “Please please ask about ‘Head Over Heels.’” Not just my fave Go-Gos song but one of my fave songs of all time (my god the bass and drums on that tune-all then the piano). And just popped up-R&R HoF. Bet Belinda goes, as she should.

Great interview. Well done. You women have nothing to worry about; anybody who doesn't want you in the RHOF is a MORON. Everything you said about your band is true. You have so much to be proud of. I recently came across a performance you did at "Pine Knob" about 15 years ago here on KZbin. It rocks the balls off half the live shows of other bands I've seen. Fully self-contained, no backup singers or gimmicks, just a killer drummer, solid bassist, two loud guitars, a keyboard when you want it and the shining maidenhead lead singer with the smiling, fearless voice that everyone recognizes right away. Please, for the love of God and in the name of all that which does not suck, STAY together! If the Rolling Stones can do it, SO CAN YOU! And you ARE the female Rolling Stones, you must realize that.

Belinda and Gina may not have written the music, but playing out live taxes a singer and drummer more than everybody else. Hard work is hard work, be it mental or physical. Each person was equally essential.

Technocrats have no idea how to handle artists. All they can focus on is profit. Fans don't need a band to saturate them. Taking a little time off would've been good for everyone... except the greedmeisters.
@aluffarb
@aluffarb 3 жыл бұрын
Clearly you have probably never played in a band, actually sat down and put pen to paper to write a song (let alone a catalog of tunes), or are just horribly mistaken. First off, writing music/lyrics is no simple task. It's not as if one can just turn on and off the creative impulse with the flick of a switch. It's either there or not, and if it's not there at that instant in time then the really gifted songwriter has to be able to find within themselves the creative energy/gestalt to arouse and bring forth that inspiration. It's even more difficult when one is simultaneously confronted with deadlines/album release dates and the record company's fire breathing dragon, corporate scumbag, money grubbing swine is breathing down your neck threatening you with all sorts of crap and breach of contract lawsuits. To top it off the successful songwriter is expected to turn out hits and not filler crap. High quality songs are very personal creations of art that mean the same to the writer as paintings mean to painters or books/poetry mean to authors. They don't materialize out of thin air but require commitment, time, blood, sweat, and tears. Sometimes a song comes out of the creative ether easily, while other times it must be drawn out grudgingly, painfully, and slowly. As such those who write the songs/music are deserving of an extra share of the profits in recognition of the time, effort, pain, and frustration that goes into the creation of the art work. Secondly, if you think it's so easy to play guitar (lead or rhythm, but especially lead) or keyboards, simultaneously singing (either lead vocal or harmony), while performing in an animated fashion (i.e. giving a lively, really into it, jumping around the stage, enthusiastic rock 'n roll god performance whether you're into that night or not), and that it's not as hard as just singing or drumming, than you've either never been in a band or at least not a very good one I'd venture to presume. You are correct though that for a band to sound tight each member of the band is essential. However, there's a lot that goes on long before a band goes on stage or goes into the studio to record and I'm not just talking about rehearsing...that is a given and a necessary commitment for all band members if they expect to advance the band and tighten up. Writing the songs for the band repertoire takes time and while the other band members are out doing whatever they want to do, the writer is stuck in a room with a guitar or keyboard, a pen, and a piece of paper spending hours trying to create a piece of art. They're entitled to be compensated and recognized for this.

Back in the 70s/ early 80s. Nearly every artist put out an album a year. That is how it was done then. And an album a year with HITS on it. That took work and talent. Arists would put out and album. then tour, work on another album while on tour, finish album after tour, release new album, start another tour, and work on another album. GRUELING WORK. AND THE PAY SUCKED.

Beauty and the Beat (I think that I still have that album (in CD form)); the Greatest Hits one too. The doc showed their early unrefined Punk era, before going into New Wave & Pop music genres - much like Blondie (Disco, Hip Hop, Reggae, EDM) and the Beastie Boys first incarnations.. the latter had changed their sound to the Golden Era of Rap.... they were managed by Miles Copeland, a brother of Stewart, from some popular (veteran (English) ) Rock group called "The Police" (along with Sting and Andy Summers).

"you're all women, so we'll pass" is the summation of why it took so long for the Gogos to get a record deal. The fact is that the record companies were all pure crap in the 70s. Radio was used to convince the lemmings what records to buy, and the crappier the band, the less money they would get per record, thus the more profit for the record company. I remember when the radio stations finally started playing the Gogos and I was like "what is this??? It's different, it's... it's... GOOD".

I’m not much of a fan of it. There are some good songs on there, but most don’t sound like The Go-Go’s to me. I wish they’d done more than 3 new songs on Return to the Valley of The Go-Go’s. For me BATB is number one with God Bless a close second. I love that album. King of Confusion and I Think I Need Sleep too.

@@christine3043 The 3 songs they did for "Return" were fantastic. I wish they'd have done a full album's worth of material around that time. The only album I had a hard time getting into was GBTGG, though I do love "Unforgiven," "Apology," "Throw Me a Curve," and "I Think I Need Sleep."

In all fairness Goldie & The Gingerbreads, The Pleasure Seekers, Fanny, The Runaways, and The Slits should be inducted to the RNRHOF then The Go-Gos. Who def deserve it as well.

Has anyone else noticed how the all woman band Sleeter Keeney seems to think they’re pioneers? Carrrie Brownstein takes herself so seriously, but i’m not impressed with that band. The Gogo’s were legit talented and skilled among pop bands regardless of gender

Yeah, screw the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. You DON'T need them to be validated.

Bio-pics are risky. The worst one being the Def Leppard movie. So many inaccuracies and bad wigs. We don't want to see Florence Pugh in a bad wig.

I can kinda see it. Go-Go's release unexpected hit album,release only 2 singles,and are rushed into two albums one after the next and stop promoting the first one after a Grammy loss. Micheal Jackson,however, did Thriller in 1982 and pretty much milked that cow for a good 5 years before the next album ever saw the light of day. Sounds like a label goof to me,somewhere down the line. Or someone wanted them to fail. Right? Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame...
