I can relate! We are only at canter over poles but you are so right, it's a process 🎉

For me the big comparison difficulty is comparing to what I used to be able to do. I lost a lot of confidence for various non-horsey 'life' based reasons, not least from having Long Covid (fatigue, dizziness, brain fog, and everything else which come with it). So the micro gains have felt painfully small when I look back at videos of what I used to be able to do (which wasn't anything spectacular but still!) That said, I try to remember to be grateful to be able to ride again because at one point I had to stop completely. Your video was a helpful inspiration to keep going and noticing the progress at my pace, in the here and now :)

I absolutely love your video, so any people don't show this side of their journey. those are the size jumps that I will be aiming for once my boy is old enough as he's still a baby (9 months old weanling) long way to go for me but its so inspiring to see your journey and know that its ok to jump small as we all have to start somewhere x

Your message is so important - it’s about your relationship with your horse and your riding goals. And flat work is soooo important as it trains agility, which is the foundation for all riding disciplines as far as I can see.

Absolutely agree! And I can see such a huge improvement even looking at these videos and I think a lot of that is down to the flatwork, too.

He certainly does! I think he’d do nothing else if I let him. In another life he’d have been a cracking hunter 🙊

Love this. You're so right. I have a five year old and we are taking our time...did an arena xc60cm in November and it was messy but brilliant fun. No plans to go big - just go better. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing - I have absolutely loved the first year of owning a 5 year old (now 6 year old). There is no rush - you've got so many years ahead, sounds like you are having a whale of a time!
