The GOAT of Every Wrestling Promotion!
When it comes to the world of wrestling, everyone wants to be great. And why not? After all, it’s a highly competitive field and the better you’re considered to be, the more money you’re going to make at the end of the day. That said, for as many greats as there are out there, only one can be considered the GOAT of each individual promotion. And while the reasons for this can vary, with some being great in ring workers, other being better with promos, and others just being more legitimate in the way that they carry themselves, they each stand alone atop the mountain, with no able to touch them. But who are these wrestlers? Well, that’s exactly the question we’re looking to answer today. So, join us today as we cover every major company North America has ever had to offer in Who’s The GOAT?: Every Promotion’s Greatest Wrestler.

I agree. I like how it was divided up by organization, but you have to look at basically the time period. Do you talk to some older people they're going to talk about Vern Ghana and a lot of others probably from the late '70s and early to mid '80s. But if you will get the mid to late '80s, you can't deny that hulkamania brought wrestling to the forefront. I personally started watching in the mid '90s, and for me it was Sting, Steve Austin, the rock, The undertaker, Hall, Nash, Mick Foley, etc. So it's kind of hard to really name exactly just one person. Like do you look at the overall body of work and longevity? Do you work at the entire influence of the industry? I mean I'm surprised the undertaker wasn't on the list, since he's been going for 30 years before retirement; which is a hard thing to do in the business as injury, addiction, etc take a lot of them out in the late '30s and early '40s

Sting was without a doubt the face of WCW especially in the heat of the Monday Night Wars with WWF. For 15 months he showed up as The Crow Sting, said nothing, and never wrestled a match yet carried the company the entire way even with the NWO being there. As problematic as it may be, the face off WCW during the monday night wars was the NWO. The Outsiders taking over was the most compelling reason for viewers to tune in. Don't get me wrong, WCW was brimming with talent, but the plot development was lacking until the NWO came to town. the people really dug the whole foreign takeover. it explains why the majority of the people even cheered for the heel organization (nwo) vs the good company (wcw).

Myke Newman, Exactly!!! I was just about to type this. As a native Memphian, who used to wake up every Saturday morning in the 80's to watch the local wrestling, people simply don't realize how big the AWA,, CWA and USWA were during those territory days. I remember Sting's and the Ultimate Warrior's first match in Memphis as part of the AWA when they were called the Freedom Fighters/ Blade Runners and were nothing more than big, buff, and stiff muscle bound freaks with no personalities or in ring skills. Then I remember Hulk Hogan in Memphis as part of the AWA when he was called Terry Boulder and simply not famous at all. I remember the Undertaker as the Master of Pain somewhere during the late 80's in Memphis as part of the CWA and the Rock later being introduced as Flex Kavana in the USWA. All of this to say that despite all of those future legends and potential near GOATs of other promotions coming through the AWA, CWA and USWA in Memphis, Jerry Lawler was easily the GOAT of the CWA and USWA. You're right about Kerry Von Erich in the WCCW, and to show how big Jerry Lawler was at that time, he defeated Kerry Von Erich in a match which basically brought the WCCW to an end and unified the title.

3:44 Many who grew up during the Attitude Era assume that it was when pro-wrestling peaked in popularity. But the highest Nielsen rating that the Monday Night Wars achieved for a single show was 8.1 when Raw went unopposed, while the highest for Nitro was 6.0, also unopposed. Even if you combine those numbers despite them happening on different dates, they still don't reach the 1st Main Event special's 15.2 in 1988 [33 million viewers] that remains an all-time record for the business to this day. Raw's most-watched segment on TV was Austin vs Taker on 06/28/99, which achieved a 9.5 rating [10.72 million viewers] after Nitro went off the air eight minutes early. Yet the entirety of the 2nd Main Event drew an 11.6, the 3rd w/ 12.8, the 4th w/ 8.6, & the 5th w/ 6.7 in '91. The original 31-episode run of Saturday Night's Main Event also drew bigger show ratings in general [reaching a zenith of 11.6] than either Raw or Smackdown [the latter maxing out at 5.8, merely two decimals above the NWA's 1st Clash of the Champions] during their respective heydays. Those are just some of the reasons why The Golden Era is officially referred to as such.

@@alanmacdonald1457 It's not hard at all given that you just gave another reason why pro-wrestling was more popular back in the 80s by pointing out that many thought it was real. I mostly agree with this video except for the ECW part. Most old-school ECW fans like myself never considered Dreamer as the "GOAT" of ECW. We respected him, but not held him to such high regards. Personally, I can't pick who can be defined as G.O.A.T., but Rob Van Dam is definitely on top of that list. Shane Douglas was a close one, as he literally was the Franchise of the promotion from early, mid, and late 90s. Taz is a solid contender. Since you said Mox was GOAT for AEW even though there are wrestlers who outclassed him on technical skills, I'll say Sandman is another worthy one. Sandman, RVD, Franchise, Taz, even Raven. But not Dreamer, with all due respect.

I like separating WWE and WWF, having said that I couldn't disagree with the goat of WWF more. I know Austin was the top guy of the attitude era, but his run was short (due to various injuries) and interrupted by the emergence of the Rock. Hulk Hogan almost single-handedly created the modern wrestling industry. Vince wanted to go national and goble up all the regional promotions, but he needed a star to promote and he found it in Hulk Hogan; the WWE would not exist as it does today without Hulk Hogan. In other words, there would not have been a Cena, Rock, DX, or Stone Cold if not for Hulk Hogan.

Sure it is important, but so is in-ring athleticism, gimmick presentation, and mic skills and many share these traits. However since GOAT is mostly just opinion sorry but it's true. I will list in my own personal opinion, which wrestlers fit the best into each category. This will only be WWF since I never really watched any other promotion, I'd occasionally change the channel to WCW but it was rare. Simply the fact that he could still wrestle, not to mention win the AWA title, so late in life showed how smart an athlete that he was. Most imp, he always presented himself with an air of dignity and self-respect, doing promos in a soft, cultured voice when do many others yelled and carried on. Love or Hate the guy, it's undeniable that Hulk Hogan is the GOAT of wrestling. He was able to do something the others on this list couldn't do. He was the driving force back during the Hulkamania period which took the entire wrestling business to new heights unseen before him. During the Attitude Era over on the WCW side, he helped establish the historic nWo completely turning the wrestling world upside down. His heel turn was so impactful it literally sent shockwaves through the industry. The All-American Wrestling superhero is a bad guy???? No other wrestler could have pulled that off. If Hogan didn't join nWo it would have flopped. The nWo along with Hogan ushered in the ERA of rooting for the bad guys. Austin nor The Rock could pull this off when they tried to go "HEEL" again with zero impact on the business. Both did well but nowhere near the star power and level Hogan was able to attain when he did it in 1996. Hogan literally changed the wrestling status quo TWICE!! in his career, no other wrestler can make that claim. From Hulk Hogan to Hollywood Hogan, he was able to reinvent himself and change the landscape of wrestling. Then on top of all this WWE rehired him to come back as a HEEL to face The Rock in which he was so over with the fans that the WWE had to change their plans and made him babyface LOL. Also for those who think he [HOGAN[ can't wrestle I would advise you to go watch his earlier career before the WWF, especially his time in NJPW you'd be surprised. Again you don't have to like the man for whatever reason but this is something I don't hear a lot of people talk about or take into consideration. SCSA would have to be a very close #2 in my book but overall given these reasons Hulk Hogan would have to be the GOAT of wrestling his resume and impact on the culture clearly speaks for itself though a lot of people will overlook it.

@danielmccaughey2861 When I say overrated. I mean overrated in the eyes of some fans. Fans who put him in the Mount Rushmore conversation, which he has no business being in. There were more important, more impactful stars in the history of that company. They just didn't have the longevity of Undertaker.

The GOAT is Stone Cold Steve Austin. Out of everybody who you could argue is the GOAT, Austin had the least time on top and set records that are still held today.

You can't put SCSA above Terry Boulder. WWF was built on Hulk Hogan's back, and the whole reason the Attitude Era happened was because every babyface the WWF tried in Hogan's wake failed spectacularly, and once Hogan's NWO made it cool to cheer for the bad guys, then and only then could Austin 3:16 even be a thing.

Except that is complete horse sheet. Austin won king of the ring and uttered his famous "Austin 3:16 says I just whupped your ass" June 23rd 1996. The Nwo wasnt formed until July 7th 1996. Austin made himself cool enough to cheer as a bad guy, has piss all to do with fricking Hulk Hogan. Nice try though

Lol no. Bret Hart, the Undertaker and HBK "failed spectacularly"? Hogan fanboys are the absolute worst

@@brianl2483 83 weeks, bro. Bret Hart and HBK made WWF basically unwatchable for years with their little ego battle playing out on camera. I love how the pink tight army thinks that it's just a coincidence that the WWF came back to prominence after Montreal 97 (and HBK's back injury). Sorry buddy. Neither one of those guys were main event players, and they both knew it, which is why they were so chronically insecure that they couldn't even work with each other by the end. What pros. As for Undertaker, he should have been the monster heel who held the belt for basically that whole time. But the WWF was so obsessed with recreating Hulkamania they didn't see the landscape shifting until the NWO came along. Maybe Taker should have been more insistent that he wear the belt backstage, I don't know. I do know that he wasn't the star the WWF needed at the time, and the company almost went belly up during his prime.

Stone Cold over Hogan is pretty wild. There was a point in time where Hulk Hogan was right there with Michael Jackson for most recognizable entertainer in the world. That dude was everywhere. You wanna split the 'WWF' into eras, fine, but having lived through them both, I'm going Hogan all day every day.

Hogan was forced down everyone’s throat when wrestling was undergoing a national expansion. Stone cold developed organically when WWE was almost bankrupt. Stone cold greater then Hogan and it’s not even a question.
