I just finished this an hour ago and saved your video specifically for this time. It was completely gripping, I was utterly thrilled reading this story. My potential favorite of the year so far. I own Long Bright River and need to read it, but will certainly purchase her backlist now as well! ❤Great book chat and I’m happy this was a win for you 😊

Brilliant review ! I just finished it and it was absolutely amazing… it made my head spin and shattered every theory I was forming while reading… it was heartbreaking too . I agree with you, I would have loved to hear more from Alice’s perspective, her POV was really compelling and sad. I have a feeling these characters will stay with me for a long time ❤️🩹

Yes the end was so thrilling! The entire book was great! I read most of the last bit during a lunch break but then at 5p there was no way I could wait until I got home to finish, no way. Ultimately I had to crack open my book and finish it before driving home while appreciating TJ Hewitt (my fave) and all the other characters that had occupied my mind for the past week.

I just finished this book and echo a lot of your sentiments! Such a beautifully written and layered story. I only diverge in the area re: social commentary-I found it interesting that a lot of discussion on land and ownership almost completely omitted mention of any indigenous communities (there was one acknowledging sentence if i recall correctly). I just found that omission more of an interesting meta-narrative than anything!
@MercysBookishMusings6 ай бұрын
Yes, it was only mentioned briefly once. It would have added another layer to the discussions about the history of land ownership to touch on it more.
@inkylabyrinth4 ай бұрын
This was one of the very few issues I had as well. Jacob talked a few times about his "ancestral connection" to the land and I was like "sure, buddy."

I just finished The God of the Woods this morning! It was a wild ride for sure. It is a chunker of a book, but I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I got through it in two days! I absolutely love this author and think she gets better with every book she writes, which is a very high bar to set. Have you read her earlier book "Heft"? It is the story of Arthur Ott who weighs 550 pounds and hasn't left his home in a decade. I read that book years ago and still think of it.

I’ll ask here because yours is the newest comment, can you please explain what happened to Alice exactly? Was she the lady who came up and spoke to jesse and his sister? If so, why? Eng is not my first language and I listened to it as audiobook so maybe I missed some stuff :/
@PatriceVC314 ай бұрын
@@8oo8y Maryanne was the lady who spoke to Louise and Jesse, she was Carl’s wife. And I’d write what happened to Alice, but that might be a spoiler for other people so I don’t want to ruin it.

I wanted to love this but I didn't. I found how Alice was written about very tropey. I feel like a lot of other characters got a more nuanced and fuller character development but she was more 1D. It didn't sit completely well with me.

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it. I felt that Alice was well developed but I see that if you feel that she wasn't it would be difficult to completely enjoy the book.

Why can’t so many bloggers say th, as a reader it’s not fought it’s thought 🤦♂️
@amivanzyl88766 ай бұрын
there are many accents (including within the UK) that pronounce th as an f. As a reader, it's ignorant to assume someone's accent means anything about them other than their region of origin (if even that) 🤦

It's my accent. Feel free to not watch my videos if it offends you.
