I was a senior in high school in 1965, and just about everyone was into the British Invasion, with the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and similar groups. I lived in New York and there was a radio station (WBGO) that played jazz. One night I heard “Song For My Father.” That tune opened my mind, and I soon walked into Tower Records, and bought the album. It was my introduction to the genre and I never looked back.

Listening to Horace Silver brings unforgettable memories when I met him in Bologna, Italy in the early sixties. He was accompanied by a hard swinging group of young musitians: Junior Cook, Billy Mitchel, sam Jones and louis Hayes. Extraordinary concert!

Brian Lynch is one of the greatest trumpeters past or present, an intensely inspiring artist.
