New York Central's Niagara was the best. Rolling on 79 inch drivers, those 4-8-4s could develop 6,600 hp. They were at one point THE steam locomotives of the world. R.I.P to the 27 NYC class S-1 Niagara 4-8-4s. None survived, but they will always be remembered. All hail the mighty Niagara!!!!!

Track pans are very interesting, used by the NYC Hudsons, Mohawks, Niagaras, 999 even. Also the Pennsy K4s. The Mohawks are also very interesting, the dual-service Mohawks even saw service pulling the 20th Century Limited! I'm so glad that 3001 and 2933 escaped being scrapped!

Both documentaries use the same footage from various video photographers, but I did see some Last of the Giants scenes like the illustration of the Mallet. (What's funny was I saw this video first and when the Mallet scene ended I thought the guy crashed into a hill until I saw Last of the Giants later in life and realized the scene was longer and illustrated a curve.)

cool, tell them I said hello; this is my favorite train video, mainly because it's got alot of good footage and history knowledge

The same to the 4-6-4 Dreyfuss Hudsons with only 10 of them built and pulling one of the most prestigious streamlined passenger trains and they couldn't even save one. I think NYC management was more concerned about money than historical preservation. Also the F7 4-6-4s that pulled Milwaukee's Hiawathas and the Santa Fe's Blue Goose (or blue bird as it's supposed to be called) that could go in the high 130s mph; unconfirmed of course.

@zdrewbie the company was named Burbank Video, and it was made in 1991. The video has not been made in years, so it only exists as VHS.

@STOPTHEEU Which was the best steam train in America? I'd have to go with the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha which ran between Chicago, Illinois, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I think Minneapolis, Minnesota from the mid '30s to the late '59s, They were pulled by streamlined 4-4-2 Atlantic locomotives that were built by the American Locomotive Company and had 84 inch driving wheels and regularly pulled the Hiawatha at 100 to 110 mph.

@KH990j Come on man! You didn't catch that???At 3:55 the narrator said the trains suffered the occasional JERK....Then they showed the guy in the suit being a jerk! Guess it takes a dry sence of humor to catch that! Peace!!!
