Grew up with these guys and their tunes...South Philly rocked! 👍

Bobby Rydell was not only a wonderfully talented singer, but also a down to earth, approachable and warm human being. As an example, he was scheduled to make a personal appearance at the Boscovs Dept. Store in NJ shortly after his beloved wife passed away (back in the early 2000's). He could have easily cancelled that appearance, but instead, not only appeared, but signed autographs for everyone there (and there were many); all the while, being gracious and accomodating. His concerts, with and without his 2 counterparts, were equally enjoyable. He not only delivered all his hits but interacted so warmly with the audience. He was truly a great entertainer, but an even better human...he, along with the incomparable James (Jimmy) Darren, have always made South Philly proud! He will be deeply missed.

Just heard we lost Bobby. Inconsolable. Robert Ridarelli from South Philly. Bobby, Fabian & Frankie were all from the same area. All that talent in a few square blocks. Frankie had the velvet voice. I loved Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, because his voice never sounded better. Just beautiful. Fabian was a PHENOMINAL actor. A Lyon Walks Among Us on Bus Stop caused a big stir, because he was so chilling as a psychopath. It co-stared the incomparable Jenny Maxwell. & when Bobby sang, he would snap his fingers & he had the skinniest legs of anybody. My friends & I would see him on American Bandstand with Dick Clark, & we'd all go to the record shop on Saturday to get the record. They were all great, but Wild One has always been my favorite. We love you sooooooooooo much Bobby. You were so wonderful. Can't stop crying. Glad you left us in the State you came from. Goodbye Bobby. Love you forever.

The thing is that they were not very important in the end. They were placed as teenage Idol and were that for a little while but then they got forgotten... Compare to chuck berry, Elvis, Bo Diddley, Dion they don't stand... They weren't rock'n roll enough, they became old too young...
@frankhyland63335 жыл бұрын
Wrong in so many ways. Firstly, every performer aims to be a teenage idol even more so today. These three all had many hit records that still stand the test of time. As for importance, they were the transition from rock n roll to the mid 6o's pop. Every singer or artist fades from view along the way, but some including these three become legends. The fact that they are being interviewed here proves that.
@frankporto26464 жыл бұрын
@@frankhyland6333 rock and roll come before these so called singers fool and their not legends they were 3 average singers that were only used to appeal to teen girls to sell a few records they didn't last long especially after the British invasion because basically they had no talent all they had was good looks which can only take u so far
@frankhyland63334 жыл бұрын
@@frankporto2646 All performers have to appeal to teenagers male and female, later hoping to appeal to the older set, that's the idea. These were legends of that era full stop. Avalon had 9 top thirty hits from 1957 to 1962. Fabian had 5 top thirty hits from 1958 to 1959. Rydel had 18 top thirty hits from 1959 to 1963. Not bad for average singers, I bet a lot of artists today would be happy with that chart success. They still appeared on tv and toured well after the Beatles came on the scene. As I said "fool" they were of that era from rock n roll to the mid-sixties. Like all performers with the odd exception they had run their course, their charts status started to wain well before the so-called " British invasion happened. Most of the invasion groups didn't last long, and the Beatles star has wained now. It's what happens in "show business" all the time. In the long run, it's a talent not looks alone that stands the test of time.
